WHAT YOU SAY
[This page is closed to new input. --Ed.]
My 2 Cents--
Whereas I agree with you completely that there are a lot of Korean fascists out there, your blind demonization of my people do not do us justice. For example, you say Korean's never say anything bad about ourselves. You are obviously too young or your only contact of Koreans were a specific type of individuals. If you go to Korea, Koreans are constantly complaining about why bribery is so endemic in Korea, why women are so under represented in Korea, why old people think they rule the country, etc. There are debates in Korea about our treatment of our expatriot brethrens as well as workers from other parts of Asia. You probably have never read Korean newspapers, poetry, or fiction that advocate egalitarianism. But then again, like I said, you know very little about Korea.
When Korean students were demonstrating, risking their lives for progress, they were not doing it to advocate Korean supremacy, they were being tortured so that the flaws of Korean system would be amended.
I want to say what I said before. A lot of Koreans are hostile to their northen and eastern neighbors, because we know a lot about them, but they know so little about us. A typical Chinese tourist's complaint about Korea is that there is so much tourist information in English and Japanese, but not enough in Chinese. They feel humiliated that we don't put them in the same esteem as the U.S. and Japan. But the truth is, Korean people use Chinese characters even to this day, and the Korean people find it highly annoying that some Chinese people demand that we should bendover backwards and assimilate into the greater Chinese culture. The typical Japanese is often even more unaware of Korean culture then the Chinese.
But the current "Korean-Wave" that is occurring in Asia is probably doing a lot of good two folds: 1: in destroying some Korean's inferiority complex. 2: generating genuine love and interest about Korea from Asia.
My 2 cents, I suggest you engage us more. I think you'll find us more pleasant than you expect.

AC Dropout,
There you go with your ignorance (apparently you've misread my post). I'm not starting a war of words (but you truly are a "sophomore philosophy student"- as some other poster once put it about you-when somebody disagrees with you).
You make the fallacy of equadating Christianity with Western culture. Western culture had actually pagan origins and later adapted Christianity. Where does the Bible say that (reference to your "Bible class" comment- many pastors will refute on that point? I challenge you to point that out. I know you were questioning that if Koreans are so proud of their culture, why are so many becoming Christians. My point: adopting Christianity does not necessarily mean you are giving up your culture. Please read more carefully yourself and stop spending too much time trading irrelevant insults!

to all
i don't know where this notion that filipinos were "laid-back" and "more accepting" of all the other asian nationalities originated from. But i can tell you from PERSONAL experience that thats not always the case. In fact, i have come into contact with many filipinos with WAY WAY TOO MUCH FILIPINO PRIDE! It was if every other nationality failed in comaprison to the filipinos! Beyond that there was just a hint of too much conceit, sort of self absorbed. But there could be filipinos that arent like this, (and i know a COUPLE) but most seem to be. I dunno, just my opinion, and my experience!

"filipinos i know are very laid back, easy to get a long with. a very cool personality. I guess its the island life that makes you like that, u know, just enjoy life..."
"not the case for puerto ricans and dominicans who are very agressive and hostile."
Well, take a good look at the Japanese. Throughout history, and culiminating in World War II, the Japanese were known for their agressiveness and brutality towards fellow Asians. Traditional Japanese culture is very blood thirsty and savage-like.
The Indonesians, many who are island dwellers, are also very aggressive and hostile. Their hatred and aggressiveness towards foreigners such as the violent attacks on the ethnic Chinese is a good example.
These Asian Nationalities have been far more violent than any Latin group I could think of (except the Colombians).
Taiwanese are also an aggressive group. Comprising of the Hoklos and Hakkas (2 aggressive groups of the overseas Chinese traditions), Taiwanese are known for their outburst of anger and physical confrontation in formal situations, something not really found among the Cantonese.
Take a good look at the Female Asian Celebrities such as Lucy Liu and Michelle Yeoh, both of women of Hoklo ancestry, they usually play the very aggressive roles instead of the 100% submissive roles, because Hoklo Women tend to have a bold and fierce character.
First of all, don't use New York City Puerto Ricans to label Puerto Ricans as a whole as being aggressive and hostile. They are two distinct groups of people. Most Puerto Ricans who come from the poor sections of the inner American cities have a totally different lifestyle from those well to do folks on the island. I need not to explain. In fact, many Puerto Ricans on the island are quite mellow and receptive of others.
Asians can be more violent than Blacks and Latins

Honestly, I have nothing against your statement(s). This is my opinion about Coreans. They, of course just like any other ethnicity, study excessively hard in school, knowledgeable in almost any and/or everything, and some can be really a jack*** or friendly when it comes to making friends. I don't say all of them do. You meet one that's nice and one that is bad. Infact, it happens to anyone in any background. Don't get me wrong, but I sometimes find Coreans very arrogant and all that among us Asians. I assume that is how they were brought up in their own country. Again, this is my opinion about Coreans.

I was wondering why some Filipinos are so adamant in stating that they are "not Asians, but Pacific Islanders"? I noticed this in high school..

"Please increase your reading comprehension skills. I would have kicked you out of my Bible study class."
Haha... that's a good one, AC.
For me personally, I went to Catholic HS, read the Bible and all that, but don't believe in it. I just look at is as a book of fables on how to live a healthy, moral life. As long as you live a good, peaceful existence, you will go to heaven.
I think religion causes more trouble than it helps. What's with all this fighting over religion? When was the last time an Atheist killed someone over his beliefs?
