To James PTBC:

INDIVIDUALISM is a good thing; UNIFORMITY is not.

Harmony must be the golden rule within family and soceity. But, all individuals need not think, speak, and act all alike, because such uniformity is the enemy of evolution. Rather, people must respect one another, using the differences of opinion and behavior to serve soceity in general.

firstly im of malay stock, my routes are from indonesian borneo, as you know malay stock people are largest ethnic group in the whole of south east asia, from philipines, malaysia and indonesia, everyone of those countrys have been subject to european colonisation, indonesia was colonised by the dutch, malaysia was colonised by portoguese for over 150 years then the dutch then the british, and phillipines has been colonised by the spanish for (im not sure) over 200 years.

But the thing that seperates the malays is the attitude, alot of malays from the phillipines adore and envy white people, and filipinos in western countrys tend to hate the fact that they are asian people, they therefore try theyre damn hardest that they are more like hispanics or pacific islanders. malays from malaysia, are very proud, almost too proud and are quik to blame others, the more lower classes of malays have their pride but also because of colonial rule look up to white people and also envy them but they know an accept that they are asians and can never be white and dont try to give an image that they are white, however the more educated malays are almost resentful of whites and white attitudes and put them down as if to try and higher themselves. Indonesians are alot like the malaysian malays, accept much more unorganised.

but to all the people that have only ever known a filipino malay in america, that looks like a hispanic ill inform you that about 90% of filipinos that migrate to the US are mestizo, if you were to go to the phillipines you will see what pure blooded filipinos look like and then the argument on are filipinos asians? will be over.

Don't a lot of Koreans learn Mandarin in school? I know some people from Korea who know Mandarin too.

I agree with you mannnnn. Corean people have alot of pride in who we are. Perhaps since we are a small country surrounded by larger countries such as China, Russia and Japan. We had to be determined and strong as people to survive against extreme odds.
Now Coreans have built a strong economic and military country its only natural for some Coreans to gloat, not saying it's justified. Don't judge most Coreans by the actions of few, if I did that I would hate all Japanese or even Chinese people for invading our country in the past.

I'm so sick of people saying filipinos dont wanna be called asian. Its simply not true. The Philippines has always been a proud member of the asian family.
Yes, thats right! A family. Even though, we have a cultural differences, putting that aside, filipinos have always called themselves asian. For god's sake! We're in your damn continent! I think the problem is, the categories are so strict. To be asian, you have to be this...well for filipinos, honestly, we are a multi-cultural people. We have a lot in common with other peoples of the world, like latin americans, pacific islanders, indonesians, malaysians, the list goes on and on. But what we are, and what we will always be is ASIAN.

"Asians can be more violent than Blacks and Latins" ?

Thats the most ridiculous thing I have every heard. FIRST OF ALL, look at the Puerto Rican Day Parade, lets rewind. Women getting molested, sexually abused, some raped. Look at those black events like rap concerts and marches. NOTHING BUT VIOLENCES. Have you ever seen women getting raped at a FILIPINO PARADE? OR A CHINESE PARADE? OR KOREAN? No....Just telling you all what I have seen, I have no conclusions on this issue. But being filipino, a PROUD one, but not too proud as to be a racist, because you shouldnt be too proud of what YOU DIDNT CHOOSE. God chose who you are. You didnt! Thats why, i dont like the idea of all that "AZN PRIDE" thing. Would you like it if white people screamed and yelled around "WHITE PRIDE"? No...you wouldnt. Filipinos are proud to be asian, and anyone who thinks they arent, are just dead wrong. We've been pushed around by heartless foreigners all our history. I think we need some support from other asians as well.

(1) Koreans have flaws like every other Asians. But, we can see why Koreans are that way because of years being sandwiched by two Asian giants- China and Japan. But, perhaps Korean know more about China than the other way around (just like the US- people around the world know more about the US than the other way around-that's because the US is so large and influential). However, I don't think many Koreans know all there is to know about Chinese (just based on the stereotypes some Koreans may have about the Chinese-who are a very diverse group of people).

(2) AC Dropout- if somebody disagrees with you, your typical response is (dumb white guy, idiot, you're illiterate)- only shows immaturity; Then you refute points by going off tangents.

TSJ,

I agree with Christianity is something good to be familar, since many people are Christians.

As for asian and Christianity. They argue about Jesus on the crusifix half the time.

And woe to the Asian that wants to marry a Buddist or Shinto mate on consecrated ground.

Are you kidding? Koreans possess the most attractive physical trait! Look at all the L.A. nightclubs in Korea. The Chinese have infiltrated because our girls are the hottest!.

AA Worldviews,

What a maroon...as the rabbit would state. If you want to believe that Christianity is not western culture that fine with me. I'm sure the rest of the western world will be happy to disagree with you, since we are happily past the Dark Ages in Europe.

Now remember I wasn't posting to you, AA worldviews, I was posting to another who identified himself a Korean American. And last I checked in Korean history. The biggest conversion to Christianity occur during the period after the Korean War (Police Action), when USA missionary went to S. Korea. So in context my point was to emphasis that even though Korean are proud of their culture, they are still subject to the behavior of "worshipping the god of the victor." And in the case of the South Korean they are worshipping a foriegn god brought over by foriegn influences.

Since you are requesting me to comment on an institution I am familiar with. I don't know whether you are asking me to debase organized religon on a whole or question whether accepting the trinty will have cultural effects.

Given that the premise of the Christian religons of absolute morality (old testiment) and absolute redemption (new testiment). Doesn't it seem quite obvious by accepting salvation certain aspect of pagan culture will be lost. Granted organized christianity will accept a certain amount of pagan influence so that it will be more palitable to the natives (i.e. Celtic cross, etc.). But on the whole Christianity requires absolute faith. So that last I checked you cannot add an 11th commandment to the tablets.

"adopting Christianity does not necessarily mean you are giving up your culture"

So the answer to your statement above is true, as long as the individual acceptance of culture is acceptable to Christianity or changes certain aspects of learned native culture in the direction acceptable to Christianity.

Remember Asain Christians looking for salvation can no longer believe in fortune telling, Feng Shui, worship of anscestor because these activities are in contradiction of the acceptance of the one and true god, but were quite normal in the native culture.

I would kick you out of my bible study class because it is becoming quite obvious you are not ready participate in evangelism to make converts in Japan.
Let's be honest you're going to Japan this summer to participate in pre-marital sex with the natives. You sinner.

"But the current "Korean-Wave" that is occurring in Asia is probably doing a lot of good two folds: 1: in destroying some Korean's inferiority complex. 2: generating genuine love and interest about Korea from Asia."

Really?

Are we assuming that the Koreans will eventually become less "hot headed" in their opinions regarding other Asians?

From your statements, it appears that the Koreans were never well-liked by others, and thus developed an aversion for others such as the Chinese and the Japanese.

If this is the case, perhaps it is the Koreans who are projecting an obnoxious image to others which leads many to disdain them so much, and would want to avoid them as much as possible?

"I think religion causes more trouble than it helps. What's with all this fighting over religion? When was the last time an Atheist killed someone over his beliefs?"

True, all of the Western Monothestic religions have been a major source of conflict in many parts of the modern world.

Christianity's Flaws - always pushing non-believers to convert, emphasizing the belief that non-Christians cannot go to heaven, and ultimately are sinners.

Judiasm's Flaws - no one can believe in this religion unless one is Jewish, doesn't want to associate with others. Suspicious of others.

Islam's Flaws - a religion of violence and extremism. Name one country that isn't violent under Islam. Any country under this religion is backwards, and reluctant to modernize.

Sometimes, I wonder if East Asians and their culture are more evolved than the West because we don't have these types of problems.

"Taiwanese are also an aggressive group. Comprising of the Hoklos and Hakkas (2 aggressive groups of the overseas Chinese traditions), Taiwanese are known for their outburst of anger and physical confrontation in formal situations, something not really found among the Cantonese."

Dude, you are soooo right. In the past week alone, I have witnessed two Taiwanese guys just snap. One was at a Chinese concert. Two guys behind me were fighting over the seats! I was just sitting there, and they started pushing and shoving. They even bumped into me a couple times. Finally, some people around broke them up.

Another time, my mom was buying one of those 5 layer woks. It turned out that the one we got was scratched, so we went back to return it. The manager totally went off the deep end, and was accusing us of doing it! Like WTF! Do we have an engraver or something to do that? We should have just taken that pan and whooped on him Conker's Bad Fur Day style! haha
