How can you compare Jose Rizal to Bruce Lee? That doesnt make any sense to me at all.

The Philippines is just like any Asian Country

i agree, the philippines has had some bad luck in its time, thats why they should try and start anew, there culture in the phillipines is actually very similar to malaysian or indonesian culture its just alot of filipino americans that people here are annoyed with.

they should get rid of the abu sayaf for starters.

sometimes it really annoys me when non-asians try to give their insight on asian matters, DHM Black Male, maybe its best if you stick to your own matters, it seems you cant even spell the Philippines, never mind know anything about them or any other asian ethnicity, all you so called REAL americans know about asian is chinese food, sushi and rush hour. look just dont get involved.

what are you talking about filipinos have hardly anything in common with mexicans, the only thing is the spanish had something to do with us hundreds of years ago, but for us filipinos the spanish had hardly any effect on our bloodline. dont contradict all the other filipinos tyring to defend themselves by showing other asians that we do not think we are latinos or hispanics, by boasting that filipinos and mexicos are near the same, we are very far apart, us filipinos are as asian as the chinese, just a different kind of asian.

Not everyone hates filipinos. Not even everyone on Goldsea - but I get the impression a whole bunch of folks on this board do. Like I said before, the anonymity of these message boards allows peoples' racist tendencies to show a lot more clearly than in an interpersonal conversation. But we just have to dispel all these ridiculous notions that everyone here seems to have about Filipinos.

I think you misunderstood NDNGRL's post. She is Indian and she was bashing Filipinos. She is not Filipino. She was implying that, since on the standardized racial category form she was filling out that Filipinos were in a category separate from other Asians, that Filipinos did not want to be considered Asians.

Just so all of you know, those forms (which categorize Filipinos separately from Asians) are configured that way because of confusion created by the older forms. In the past (many years ago) these forms were much simpler. The racial categories were something like "white", "black", "asian", "non-white spanish-surname", and "other." And that's IT. Nothing else. The "spanish-surname" category was created because before the hispanic population grew very large in America, hispanics were considered to be either white or black - there was no racial category known as "hispanics" or "latinos" back then! So a new category was created, and hispanics were given the option of checking the "spanish-surname" box. Well, if you were a Filipino with a Spanish surname, which box would you check? I, personally, would check "Asian." Apparently, however, many Filipinos were confused enough to check "spanish-surname" or "other." This obviously made for inaccurate statisctics. Therefore, placing "Filipino" in a category by itself is just a method of ensuring that the racial statistics are more accurate. It has nothing to do with Filipinos considering themselves to be Asian.

Other asians are bitter that there are filipino's out there who don a superior air, quickly pointing out their hispanic surnames. It seems that possessing this foreign element, to some Filipinos, gives them a right to look down upon other asians. And then there are asians who simply resent the foreign element, whether from any fault at the Filipinos. Occassionally, this seems to be a result from jealousy.

I personally have nothing against Filipinos. As far as I am concerned, they are about as Asian as anyone else. For the most part, Filipinos are hospitable, friendly people, and probably less superficial than most other Asian ethnic groups, when it comes to judging other people.

Mexicans are also friendly, hospitable people, and along with Filipinos, do present an easy going way to life that truly is relieving from the dog-eat-dog world of East Asian/White American society.

Filipinos are cruel and heartless? WRONG! Filipinos are the friendliest of asians. They certainly ARE NOT HEARTLESS. I hate people who do STUPID GENERALIZATIONS!

How can all filipinos be materialistic when most of the country is in poverty!? The people basically do not have anything to offer but their smiles, their hearts, and warm filipino hospitality....

Actually the group of Chinese that came to the Philippines were the Hokkien (Fukien) Chinese. They originate from the Fukien area of China, and most Filipinos of Chinese ancestry link their ancestors to Fukien area. If one studies carefully the features of the some of the Filipinos, he or she will notice that they have features of the Fukien Chinese.

Fukien Chinese are divided into 2 groups, northern and southern. Southern Fukien Chinese are those who settled in Taiwan, Southeast Asia such as the Philipines many years ago. Northern Fukien or better known as the Fu Chows are those recent Chinese immigrants being smuggled illegally into the American Inner Cities to do all sh*t work along with the Mexicans, and are often harassed by the Cantonese Chinese, and other minorities. Just like the Mexicans, they are a tough group, and will fight viciously if provoked..hehe..

If filipinos dont think they are asian, why are we wasting our time posting on this ASIAN BOARD? Im so sick of you chinese and koreans always sayin we dont wanna be asian! Whats this CHINESE JOSE RIZAL!? damn, why do you chinese wanna take credit for the GREATEST MAN OF THE BROWN RACE? Please, chinese have enough achievements and i respect every chinese out here. Rizal is filipino. Hes not SPANISH. Hes NOT CHINESE. He's not white, in my heart and in Jose Rizal's heart, his soul will always be filipino. I love that guy.

FIL Guy19 and all those filipinos who think other races are disputing the fact whether filipinos are asian.

ive been watching this poll for a long time now and also last time when they were bashing filipinos, and alot of filipinos such as yourself are implying that other asian ethnicities see filipinos as not asian, we do see filipinos as asian, actually white people see filipinos as asian black and hispanics see filipinos as asian and so do other asians, the only people who are bringing up whether filipinos are asian or pacific islanders, are the filipinos themselves, and thats not only what theyre bringing up, ive heard one filipino a while back say filipinos are more african than asian, and loads of filipinos who claim they are hispanic not asians. im not a filipinos basher, i think the filipinos who are proud of theyre chinese or malay ethnicity are on the right track, and i dont look down on filipinos because of theyre country or economy like some of these koreans in here, i know how unlucky the phillipines has been as a country or else who knows how good the phillipines economy or reputation could have been.
