AZn,

I'm not saying bullshit. Maybe you are talking about my history text book then? But when Malaysia was first introduced, they were asked to vote. They chose to become part of Malaysia. That was what I read. If I were wrong, it's ok.Tell me the correct stuff.I was told by my history teacher about that.No offense.Yes, I'm from West Malaysia and I'm interested in the history of my country as if any Malaysians would like to know. So, tell me if I was wrong.

Turk,
Almari is a Portuguese word. It was still being used in the Malay language today.I know there were Arabic sailors in Malaya ( Malaysia) in the 15th century. But, Almari is a Portuguese word. I studied that in my history text book and there are infact about 400 words which are Portuguese words, still being used till today.

Is it just me, but I have this feeling that Chinese who live further inland or more towards the west of China have more foreign extract than the ones who live in the coastal areas.

Just take a look at the different facial types of the Chinese in the Chinatowns throughout the US. Most of these Chinese hail from the southern areas of China, but they have such diverse facial features.

Some are pale and have a sharp nose, Some are dark and have a flat nose. Some have eyes that are so close to each other that they looked crossed. Some even have a slight kink (curl) in their hair. Some are broad shoulder with a narrow forehead. Some are narrow in body with a very broad head.

What I noticed about the Cantonese is that a large number of them do not look very Chinese. They have these features that don't resemble anything like the Northern Chinese, Shanghainese, Fujianese and Hakkas. Cantonese are usually darker and shorter, although this is not the case with all of them. One prominent trait of the Cantonese, usually the ones from Taisan (Toisan) not found in the other Chinese is what I called the "Frankenstein Face" which is of course found in men and less of women. Usually these people with the "Frankenstein" look have a narrow form head, square jaws, flat and broad nose, small mouth and a pair of eyes that look like they are crossed. I wonder what kind of genes made these people look like this, but it is prominent among the Chinese in Western Guangdong and neighboring Guanxi Province. I have never seen an Eastern Cantonese or Fujianese or Shanghainese with such repulsive features, who are also paler and probably more "Chinese" in comparision.

No such thing as Chinese    Monday, May 06, 2002 at 15:09:17 (PDT)
Almari is an Arabic word. This word travelled to Malaysia via the Arab sailors just as it travelled into Spain and Portugal via the Arab Moors. Spanish Words like Mesa ( table) and Kamesa (shirt), along with countless others, are also Arabic in origin.

firstly to Malaysian Euroasian girl

dont say that bullsh*t to me, im a sabahan and im a native of sabah, The native Dusun-Kadazan people. We are prodominately christians and the only prodominately christian state in malaysia. We did not choose to be a part of Malaysia, we never used to be called Sabah, which is an islamic name. We were simply North Borneo. We have suffered exploitation of our rich recources, for hundreds of years. First it was the portuguese when they defeated the sultan of brunei/king of Sulu to take malaya and North Borneo. Then the british took over both north borneo and malaya (the two had nothing to do with each other). The british exploited our oil, timber, rubber and spices. They also brought thousands of dirty Indian and Chinese labourers (slaves) to do theyre dirty work because the natives refused to be theyre slaves. The Brits gave nothing back to the native people.

When the british took back North Borneo from the japanese in world war2, they decided it was time to leave, the biggest town in North Borneo, then known as Jesselton, was basically destroyed by the japanese and the british didnt even bother to redevelop it. When the British planned on leaving its South East Asian Colonys, they formed Malaysia and North Borneo had no choice but to join the penninsular muslim malays. THE BRITISH GAVE NORTH BORNEO TO MALAYSIA. Once the malays moved in they changed things, they changed the city of Jesselton to Kota Kinabalu, they Changed North Borneo to an Arab 'Sabah'.

Because Malaysia is quite undemocratic and is run by a dictator, The natives of Sabah will probably never find theyre independance. One well known example in malaysia. A Native Political party in 'Sabah' always defeats the muslim malay party. The dictator or prime minister of malaysia, gave automatic citizenship to thousands and thousands of illegal indonesian and muslim filipino immigrants, so they would vote for the muslim party. AND THEY STILL LOST.

So you Malaysian euraisan girl, i know your a west malaysian, and a west malaysian will never understand the natives of borneo.
