WHAT YOU SAY

[They all want to be in their own groups anyways with the hawaiians and guamanians. I have a friend that is filipina and she even told me that they are more closely related to guamanians and other "islanders".]

It’s actually better to borrow a few books on the Philippines from a library than to listen to your friend. It’s better to be objective than subjective when you are learning about a different culture. I believe most history books point out that the Philippines is a Southeast Asian country.

actually pacific islanders are those people who are native to in and around Oceania e.g. Polynesians and Micronesians. Micronesians are more the negroid type people where as polynesians are more like malays. It is true that Malays are very similar to polynesians, but ive heard from polynesians themselves say that malays from indonesia and malaysia are more like polynesians where as polynesians from the phillipines are more oriental, maybe its because the phillipines is so close to china and japan or something.

Malaysian-euroasian gal

Malaya and Borneo never knew of these concepts of prostituion and gambling until they were introduced by the chinese and indians, that is a fact. Yuo can say its not true all you want but it dosent actually change the truth.

Take a look at the social structure of Malaysia. How come we never see any chinese labourers working for Malay bosses?? you'll probably say well the chinese are just business savvy people, yes that is true but it is also well known that unless ou speak chinese, a chinese person will always favour another chinese person, to me that is racist. Me and my friend walked into a chinese kedai kopi in Sabah, we are both dusun kadazan and in sabah everyone can tell the difference between dusun/kadazan and malays, the boss/waiter treated us like shit and like we were stupid and started about us calling us monkeys in chinese, my friend who was with me can speak chinese because he went to a chinese school and really blasted the hell out of the shop owners. Chinese parents will nearly disown theyre daughter if she marrys a bumiputra.

xie xie, firstly if you read back on my original post i never once said that the ONLY thing the chinese and indians brought were the bad things, god knows malaysia is the second most economically stable country in south east asia thanks to ethnic chinese malaysians who are very business savvy. And im not offended because it is ridiculous to compare me with the likes of the kkk just for saying that chinese and indians brought prostitution etc. into our country when actually that is a well known fact. Is it racist to tell the truth these days?

Filipinas are in my opinion the best looking asians. You got their brown caramel skin, along with the round almond eyes, I find that really attractive. Also, women from the pacific islands are FINE as well. They somewhat look like filipinas, I guess these women just appeal to me more than the snobby, superficial korean and japanese women I've met. From my experience, korean women act like 10 year olds, they scream, fuss, and are just plain snobby. I must have been blind for 3 years! My ex-wife was korean....now I'm going back to the native girls, my native land, the PHILIPPINES. How sweet it is. God bless u all

Soo Jin,

"Well, I am from california, and the majority of filipinos here want to be asian, but they are not. . . they are nothing like the asians that they want to be like...we are different. They are Pacific Islanders, and Koreans, Chinese, etc..are Asians."

I've always thought that "Asian American" or APA was a political term more than anything as it relates to our common experiences and alliances in America. All differences are a matter of degree. I think that we would be internalizing Western stereotypes of "all Asians being the same" if we try to culturally or phenotypically define "Asian". I may be in a minority, but I think that we can all be comfortable under the blanket term "Asian American" while also recognizing that all Asians (and all people) are different.

Asian is a political term, and it is really defined by the context of the speaker and the listener. Brits say Asian to generally mean South Asian, while Americans generally mean East Asian. I like the concept of letting people chose whether or not they want to call themselves Asian rather than trying to define and exclude.

Anyways, what's in a name. Japan, Taiwan and Sri Lanka are also islands in the Pacific. Are their people Pacific Islanders also? Is a Chinese boy from Westbury, NY an Islander (Long Island)? I wonder if Koreans might more comfortably refer to themselves as Peninsulares?
