Anybody ever try the fermented goose egg dish? How is the egg fermented like that? Can one do it at home?

Stay away from my pets,

Even if you just wanted to restrict it. It is not that simple. Because you would be setting precidents, which is what are legal system is based on. Restriction on the use of animals could lead to less animal testing. Less recreational hunting. Less pet ownership. Each one of these examples

· Beating the living crap out of a dog
· Dumping live cats into boiling water
· Holding canine fighting shows

are about using animal for human need or entertainment. Start putting up laws governing this would just lead to a can of worms. That's why there are ethic committee governing this and not policemen.

A Chinese philosopher Zhuan Zi had a prose title "Wu Fei Yu" (You are not a fish). It a fake conversation between two famous philosopher about happiness. In conclusion it was decided you are not a fish, a bear, or me for that matter so you have no idea what will make them happy.

Projecting human emotions or desires on other animals is futile. Maybe they just enjoyed being used and consumed for all we know.

Pass the Poy,

You make a good point. I always wondered what a Homing Pigeon or Do-Do Bird taste like. It is a pity they are gone now. Perhaps when we have mastered cloning from fossils, we can have a taste of saber tooth tiger on the table. Or Do-Do birds for Thanksgiving.

ahhh the never ending debate over "fragrant meats" ( dog, cat etc.)
The real issue here is that there are different cultural standards when it comes to eatng certain animals. Some cultures place vegatarianism as the greatest dietitic virtue. Some cultures will eat anthing that moves. It all depends on where you grow up and what is considered the cultural norm. But remember that all culinary morals are simply constructions of cultures. One person looks at Rover and sees a loving family pet another person looks at him and sees a lovely family dinner.
I would say the only time it is wrong to eat animals is when you've damn near wiped out the species. Case in point: Tigers and Black Bears. That also goes for extinction due to overdevelopment as well.

AC Dropout,

Why are you arguing against assertions and innuendos that I’ve never made?

Where did I say:
· Animal Rights >= Human Rights
· Eating canine = (un-American)
Huh? Where did I say those things?

And your assertions:
· Blanching = boiling animals while it's still full of life
· Pets = Animal enslavement
· Potty training = torture
May be you are the one who require head examination.

Look, effectively, all I said was that I don’t think it’s unreasonable for people to push for laws designed to protect animals and livestock from UNNECESSARY cruelty.

To simplify…

Would you call the police if you saw your neighbor eating a dish with dog or cat meat?

-I WOULD NOT.

Would you call the police on butchering or meat processing business for doing its business?

-I WOULD NOT.

Would you call the police if you saw your neighborhood business or person:
· Beating the living crap out of a dog
· Dumping live cats into boiling water
· Holding canine fighting shows

-I WOULD, and there are laws against such cruelty in some parts of the world.

Would you pressure or suggest for such laws if you had some influence?

-I WOULD, and I don’t think I’m being un-American, ethnocentric, nor ignorant in doing so.
