A lot of good looking Asian men are shy although they many seem really arrogant.

Yeah... there are also ones that doesn't get the point when it's so obvious that a girl has no interest in them. One phrase in Chinese " Bu Yao Lian " !!!!!!!
It means " Not wanting face" translated into English.

You could look for FOB's that are art majors. So they are not as strict and open to new ideas.

Or find professional AA's. So they are Americanized and will be uptight due to profession.

Asian only take up 4% of the population, so it is just more work on your part to meet all the different types of Asians out there.

Or you could choose to study in Asia at some point. This way all the different asains will just come say hi to you.

I wish asian men would be more aggressive in their approach to girls they like. Most asian men are too shy. And then there are some that even if you tell them to drop dead thousands of times they still come around.

Hehe, the AA culture simultaneously rejects those who are too whitewashed (usually in terms of the color of their friends and the style of their dress) and those who are not whitewashed enough (in terms of personal behavior, language, etc).

My only advice in this situation is to hang out with someone else's FOBs rather than your own country of origin's FOBs. Culturally similar enough for smooth interaction, great way to pick up the language, and any giant social gaffes you make, "Sorry, I'm Chinese, not Japanese, I don't know these things!"

It even helps in finding someone for a long-term relationship ... hehe =). A few years back when I first started hanging out with lots of Japanese FOBs I went out with another Chinese-American girl who hung out with Korean FOBs. Our respective groups of friends were really confused to meet each other ...

So you feel too traditional to date AAs, yet find the FOBs to be even more traditional than you are.

Congratulations my friend, you just made it into my exclusive little club called the Misfits, where you're damned if you do and damned if you don't. My suggestion--find others who think like you do, sorta half-and-half and not knowing what to do about it either. There are plenty here.
