The trick to chopping vegetables is nothing more than cadence. If you are right-handed, tuck the fingers of your left hand in as you're holding the vegetable and use your knuckles to guide the blade of the knife from the right of the veggie to the left. Slice down with your knife in an even motion (I usually go tip to base in a see-saw fashion as opposed to a bang-bang up-and-down fashion, which makes a more interesting and professional noise but produces less uniform results). At first, you might want to go slowly; and use celery stalks, since if you flip it right side up, it will lie still for you and not roll around like a carrot will, and it's softer so you don't have to bear down so hard on the knife (a dollar will buy you two big bags of celery which is a lot of practice just for cutting veggies). Oh, and you need to have a very sharp 8" chef's knife with a solid grip that's balanced, otherwise, you could really hurt yourself with a dull knife.

Spaghetti is great! So is dumplings! Have you ever created an Asian-styled Spaghetti dish by using Asian ingredients instead of Italian ingredients? Try substituting some of the veggies (instead of mushrooms, bell peppers, zucchini...use bok choi, shitaki mushrooms, bitter mellons, or even Chinese eggplant) and try using the flat Asian noodles (we use them for stir-fry dishes), or even rice sticks. Experiment with different ingredients. They really make an interesting difference!

Ladies!
Vic Chao is a hunk! yes he is! (and no, that doesn't look like a little girl on his shoulder. It looks to me like a really tiny but gorgeous full-grown woman!) but I don't think any of us are his cuppa green tea. He would probably get bored with us in ten minutes if we don't know how to act like Sandra Bullock or tap dance or sing Italian operas or juggle twelve soapy dishes in the air...or do SOMETHING showstopping! Men who are that well-talented (and handsome) aren't looking for average chicks. So, (sigh) dream on, ladies. I only got 4 requirements for men, and I'm already getting heat from them about having too high of a standard, and sadly, not a one of those points consist of being a Vic-Chao-Look-Alike.

Hi AC dropout,
how do you make small talk?

Sometimes I feel as if everything I say is taken way too seriously or something

to Pot Stirrer & Beijing Woman

Uh oh, looks like I'm in trouble. If I post a pic, then I'm no longer anonymous, and the posts directed at me will be biased based upon what I look like as opposed to what my personality is. Would it suffice for me to tell you that I have long blondish (I dyed it for the summer) straight hair down almost to my waist, I have fair skin that tends to be pinkish (something to do with strange genetics) and I have fairly large eyes in comparison to my face (which is sort of heart-shaped), my nose is taller than the average Asian (again, more strange genetics) and my mouth is smaller than average (really hard to get a good bite out of a large hamburger because I can't get my mouth to open wide enough...dentists hate me too!). Hmmm...what else...oh, I got sun-burned over the holiday weekend becauce I got stuck in traffic (3 hours) with my ragtop down so now, I sorta look like a peeling lobster and my face itches like the devil, so...I really look ugly this week, folks. You're not missing much, but thanks for the request.

1/2LostSoul,

"On one hand, they advertise semi-truths, on the other, they lobby against change."

Yes and it is this same duplicity that will also work on the battlefield of love. ^_^

Squeeze toothpaste in the middle and leave the toilet seat up, no matter how much a woman protest.

AC Dropout,
"To appear to appease humanitary issues" is the correct wording.... Preception matters more than reality. Think of all those car companies or tobacco companies. On one hand, they advertise semi-truths, on the other, they lobby against change.

Another fan.    Sunday, May 26, 2002 at 22:08:08 (PDT)
Vic Chao...it would be wonderful if he's single. I doubt it though. Even if he is, he's probably got 500000 billion women surrounding him.
Wow!    Sunday, May 26, 2002 at 21:03:37 (PDT)

1/2LostSoul,

"Too bad there are many more lumberjacks than conservationist in the world"

Hard to say...morality and big business go hand in hand these days. To appear to appease humanitary issues, can have a positive impact on the bottom line these days.

chicky poo,

"how can you tell if he's the one, or one who might be the one?"

To borrow a phrase "To risk; victory."
You will never know till you try.

Personally, I don't think there is a set time frame to knowing that you've found the one. But I would hazard a guess that 3 months to a year is a good time frame begin the process.

"How do we get to know people we don't know?"

I usually approach new people with a simple "Hi" a conversation will naturally happen if it was meant to be. American culture is very big on small talk, you slowly build up from there.
