For people experienced with eyelash curlers:
what is the difference between eyelash curlers? They all look the same to me. How can you tell which one's good and which one's bad? I hear all this hype about the Shu Uemura curler and the Shiseido curler. Which one's better? Are they really that much better than Maybelline or Revlon or Covergirl? Please help.

Cindy

just ask for it at the (what's it called...?) place where you can buy make-up.
Lancome have a great mixed palette concealer...I don't know what kind of skin tone you have, but if you are not to yellow YSL have the best concealer ever...."Touche Eclat"
We all use it, my self and all of my make-up artist friends.

The best advice I can give you is to mix your own concealer tone to suit you skin tone.

Hi Kristine,

I'm not familiar with color circle. But I have heard that if you apply yellow/orange to dark circles it'll tone it down. Where do I find the orange liquid you're talking about?

Hey just out of curiosity, does anybody have trouble applying mascara? Even with the Lash Discovery's smaller wand I still poke myself in the eye. I guess it's more of a matter of practice than anything else. But it gets annoying cleaning mascara out of the white part of my eye. Not to mention it hurts!

Thanks for the info guys, I've learn so much. This is why I wish I have sisters, somebody to bounce ideas with and have them be totally honest.

Hi Cindy

sounds like you have a great book...and know whats suits you the best. Are you familiar with the (dont know what its called in english) colour-circle? well anyway...
1. green - red
2. purple - yellow
3. orange - blue

so, if you put a little bit of sheer sheer orange liquide concealer, without pouder on your dark circule and try to make it disappear into the skin by dabbing it, it should work one you. it has worked on everyone I have done make-up on.

Eyeliner - I swear by either Covergirl's Perfect Point Plus in Espresso or Avon's Glimmersticks eyeliner in Cosmic Brown. I think black is too dramatic. Eyeliners give spirit to tired eyes and I believe everyone looks better with eyeliners (a thin line or bold ones)

your question about the new technique they use for tattooin eyebrows. this new technique is called "soft tap" it is less painful then tattoing, but results doesnt last as long a tattoo. It is more natural because they draw little strokes giving the effect of hairs. The color are more natural too because they dont fade into blue like some tattoos. The price range is from 200 to 500 canadian. the most pain u'll get out of it is just like pluckin ur eyebrows. yes i use to work there dats how i know =)

I just got this book called Asian Beauty (from Borders) written by an asian make up artist FOR asian women. It was very useful. Some stuff was too dramatic and way out of this world for my taste but the basics are great.

I tried the mascara on the lower lid and light shadow on my top lids, my eyes look fantastic! Also I tried the Lash Discovery from Maybelline, that mascara was awesome! It definitely worked great for my straight short lashes. Also I found Rimmel Curly Mascara and they did a great job curling my lashes too. Not as easy to apply as Lash Discovery but the result was more dramatic.

My only problem left is I still have dark circles under my eyes that won't go away. I got the Physician's Formula yellow concealer thing and it worked great, but it looked too cakey and made me look older. I guess I trade one for another. Any suggestion for a sleep deprived slave to the grind?

kyu-chan,

I totally agree with you, that is why I don't prefer using American magazines as reference for eye-make-up tips. I usually refer to those Japanese and HK magazines for that. Asians can definately achieve the "smokey look". I have attempted it, and I'm not sure if it's the "right way" but it's the results that count, isn't it? I don't usually line my lower lids, though. I usually, brush my lower lashes lightly with black mascara and that makes it appear that i lined them.

...if you have alot of meat on your lids, lift up your lids a bit with your fingertips to line at the very base of your lashes, then smudge a bit, lower your lid, and look at how much of the smudging is visible when your eyes are open. try to maintain that bold darkness not too far from the lash-level when your eyes are open. the blend it so it grays lightly as you go up...

*Or, use dark eye shadows and work from dark to light, using greys to blend to make that gradation of dark to light, keeping the line at the base of your lashes the darkest.

I'm no make-up expert, I just like to try things out with make-up here and there, so if anyone reads this and thinks or knows otherwise, do tell!!

i'd like to know too.
dunno...but works for me?    Tuesday, October 08, 2002 at 01:15:27 (PDT)    [65.184.91.9]
Cindy,

Try lining your upper lids and only your upper lids. Avoid lining your lower lid because it will only further draw attention to your bags. Lining the upper lid along the base of your lashes...not TOO THICK will enhance the appearance of your eyes, making your lashes appear darker. Use a soft lightly glowy eyeshadow a few shades lighter than your skin color on your lids, and that should do that trick!
in love with liner    Tuesday, October 08, 2002 at 00:51:03 (PDT)    [65.184.91.9]
I am glad I found this page! I figured out early on that many of the "newest eye makeup trends" just DONT work on certain asian eyes. Instead, we should work with what we have and enhance THAT :) I know that within the asian population there is a lot of variation and diversity with how our eyes look but i'm talking about non-deep set eyes that may not have creases. anyway...my QUESTION is,...Can asian women get that smoky smoldering eye look? If so please let me kno :)

I have asian eyes with creases, what can I do to make my eyes look bigger and livelier? My work schedule is so hectic that I always have bags under my eyes and I find that lining on the bottom lid makes me look even more puffier. Will not lining the bottom make them look bigger? I noticed that most of the Hong Kong actresses don't underline their bottom lid. Also the dark eye liner on the bottom lid look can be very dated. HELP!

what a great website!
i learned so much just by reading a few comments.

i am korean, with creases, but i too have one crease that sometimes goes away and comes back, especially if i've gone to bed having cried the night before. does anyone have good tips for making the swelling go down?
also, when i wear shadow, by the end of the day most of it ends up on my lower lid (especially if i laugh or smile a lot that day)-- is there any product that will make the shadow stay longer?

i usually sweep a light shadow over the whole lid, like ivory or pinkish beige, then blend a darker shadow like purple or grey closer to the lash line, then line just the top with liquid liner, having it get thicker out towards the sides, and extending a bit past the eye.
i recently discovered bobbi brown gel eyeliner in "cobalt ink", and love it! i want to urge other black-haired women to try liners that are not pure-black or brown. mascara has never really worked for me, because all my lashes point straight down, but maybe it's just a matter of curling them and finding the right product.

actually, eyeliner works fine, only, do it near the edge of the top rims where it is barely visible and please none at the bottom or you're look like a stuffed poodle

I think Asian eyes are one of the most beautiful around, but most Asian women do not take advantage of their valuable asset. Please stop wearing eyeliner! It is not necessary nor flattering. If you must wear eyeliner, apply it only in the center of the lash line. Smudge the line to soften it. Rimming your eyes in black or brown eyeliner will only shrink your eyes down. For the problem with "oily lids", simply use a mattifying base or an oil contol concealer. Apply, let the liquid set a moment, then blend. Finish off by dusting the lids with a translucent powder. I would recommend pinks, plums, greens, and champagne. These colors really make the eyes pop.

Anyone know anything about permanent eyebrows? I usually draw in my eyebrows, but I'm thinking about having permanent eyebrows done. I'm a bit reluctant to do it because I've seen other people that had it done, and the color turned blue after a year! I had my eyeliner tattoed on my top lid only so it wouldn't be so noticeable. But I hear there is a different method of applying the permanent makeup (it's not the usual tatooing) that makes your brows look more natural. In Chinese, it sounds like "weaving" brows. It's usually done at Asian salons. Anyone had it done before?

you guys make it seem like every asian got a single eye lid. i am 1/2 chinese and 1/2 cambodian and my eye lids aren't single. some people think i look spanish or mixed race but i still got that asian look to me because of the space between my eyes and my eye brows is a little bigger than those who are not asians.

i am 100% korean, and i also have creaseless lids. i am here cuz i just need some good asian tips! it may be hard, but we should be proud of our asian heritages... :P i also have to agree with everyone else, brown/pink colors look the best one us, along w/ grayish eye liner. also mascara w/ curled lashes. i think asians look best simple and natural. :) asian pride! lol

this comment is addressed to KIMI--how come you didn't leave an email where i could contact you? my name is lynn, and i'm chinese, and i have the exact same problem as you with "lopsided eyes." probably one of those things that you notice but nobody else really does. i'm incredibly self-conscious about it and it's the first thing i see whenever i look at photos of myself. anyway, just wanted to touch base with you on tips/advice about this issue. also, in terms of long-wearing eyeliner--i have the problem of the fact that my right eye--the one with the smaller crease, is such that eyeliner applied to the lashline all eventually transfers up to the skin by my brow-bone by late morning--this is super frustrating, and i have been battling this "eyeliner transfer problem" forever. i've found a couple things that work pretty well--first, don't bother with those "self-sharpening" pencils (i know revlon colorstay makes one as does almay amazing lasting eye pencil or whatever)--these just can't give you the precision you need. i've found the best thing is actually a very inexpensive brand called RIMMEL. i've only found it at walmart actually--they have a wide selection of pencil colors--i think "hurricane grey" is the best. also, i prep my lids with this stuff called "triple eye enhancer" from MARY KAY. it really makes the make up go on smooth and last a lot longer, esp if you tend to have oily lids. if you read this and feel like it, please contact me by email!

i'm korean. i have small but exotic eyes. people tell me they like my eyes. but then there are the people who say they can't see my eyes because of the makeup i put on. i am used to putting black eyeliner, mascara, and eyeshadow. i found if u put on brown eyeliner instead of black it's much more elegant.
then swipe on some brown eyeshdow over the eyeliner. Then apply a light pink to almost white (not heavenly) on your lids. Since my eyes have no lids and they are very flat it is easy for me to apply this. i usually add red too to make it more exotic.

desperate-
i have the same problem as you sometimes. i normally don't have visible creases but sometimes one of my eyes will spontaneously crease. this usually happens during allergy season when my eyes get all watery. this causes my eyelids to get dry so they don't fold up as nice as when they are normal. also if i've been crying the night before or if i rub my eyes too much the same thing happens. my lone crease usually resolves itself within a week or so, but i've had it go on for up to 2 months. i think your eyes will get back to normal pretty soon. try using a moisurizer over your eyelid before you go to bed. that might do the trick!
