WHAT YOU SAY

Kiet, saying that fobs are the lowest form of asians there was just pathetic. This just proves how most asians in america are whitewashed. These people do not care about their own chinese heritage, all they care about is about american culture. I have just one question for you, why would you want to follow american culture? Would you rather be a hoser than pure asian? All hosers do is go to work/school, eat donuts, and all they do for fun is go watch movies and go to sleep by midnight.

They do...when you return and they see how much better off you are with an overseas education and plenty of overseas money.

Just play it cool and be nice to everyone. You cannot tell who is who and where their loyalties are at. And you are going there to learn, understand, and have fun, not to make a political statement, right?

And honestly, it's just not healthy to keep all that anger and bitterness inside for something that happened almost 30 years ago. You gotta move on with your life and be happy with the opportunities that you've been given (when one door closes, two more open). After all, if you hadn't been 'kicked out of your house and homeland' (and believe me, it happened to my family too), you would have never had the opportunity to receive an overseas education. That priviledge is only reserved for the highly affluent of any nation.

hey folks... i am viet and have never been back to see the country. from what you all have written, i really need to save up for the next vacation. my sister went back and enjoyed it immensely, but i don't know how i would feel seeing how F&*@ up the government is and how poor the people are. the only ones who are rich are the commies. their kids are sent to US schools while other viets are struggling to survive. from what my parents have told me, there are commies living in our old homes. those bastards just took everything that belonged to us and kicked my relatives out of our property. F#@! them all

A Memoriable Experience

Dear dear companion traveler. So glad to see others appreciate it as much as I do.

I loved the coconut drinks! Because my stomach was somewhat delicate, I took to drinking fresh coconut juice wherever I went. For one US dime, the servers take a coconut out of the fridge, whack the top off with a machete, and stick a straw into the hole on the top. Voila! Instant Virgin Mai Tais!

And silk was the most fabulous things there! I bought so many silk things there, pajamas, tops, pants, skirts, wraps, even silk slippers with layers of cinamon sandwiched in between the soles and the silk.

I collect tea pots and tea sets, and I brought home boxes of carved marble, carved teakwood, ceramic, and handwrought brass and iron tea sets.

But the one thing I really treasure that I brought back with me was that one misty rainy day, deep in the haunting jungles of My Son, amidst the silent ruined temples of the Champa.

I will write a mystery/ghost novel based upon it one of these days. :)

My dad's dad (my grandfather) was Chinese, so that makes me 1/8 Chinese. But I was born in Vietnam, so that makes me Vietnamese. Let's see, the breakdown in my genetic makeup is...I don't know how to break it down mathematically, but my dad's half Chinese, half French, and my mom's mostly Vietnamese with a bit of Thailand in her. But I'm American too.

So...what does that make me? A mixed up kid. :)

Kiet:

I am not done with you Kiet....

ABAs are some of the most white-washed individuals out there...they praise anything AMERican while yelling this "Asian PRYDE??"

These individuals(you) remind me of the early immigrants back in American History...
They make fun of new immigrants when they were immigrants themselves...
Looking in retrospect...they had this hostility towards new immigrants because...apparently...they felt threaten by them.

I am SORRY that I...a young FOB is intellectually/academically threatening to you...
Tough...

I wish that ABAs would stop MAKING A FOOL OUT OF THEMSELVES...! The way that you guys dare to look down on your own are making Caucasians smile from the inside...

YOu guys are giving Asians a bad name by viewing yourselves as secondary by trying SOOOO hard to copy the CAUCASIAN...
So pathetic...
There is a subtle difference between assimulating and praising...

ABAs...they somehow...picked up on all the vulnerabilities and shortcomings of their FOB parents...but fails to pick up the language...

We probably share a common view point on one thing...that is..there are subtle differences between FOBs and ABAs...

FOBs are better...

Most FOBs...the ones that are willing to embrace the American culture....somehow always fits in even better than ABCs...

Ironic...

Well that is because they have a good balance of awareness/pride of their culture along with an openmind and willingness to learn...

ABAs...well...they apparently have no pride in their culture...since they dare to look down on the only people(FOBs) that are keeping the Asian culture alive here in the US...
They ironically do not have openmindedness either...because they cannot even accept FOBs who are of little difference to them...unlike the FOBs who can accept Caucasians who are much different from them...and most of all...making Caucasians accept THEM without having to denounce their own culture...

Ok?
