md,
Its a bit off topic, but are there many Asian surfers in your area? I'm from Sydney, and I surf (not fully into surf culture though), but don't see that many out there, except for some Japenese on holidays. I mainly wear boardies & t shirts.
For fashion, you can't go past velour leisuresuits. They're baggy and comfy in all the right places!

I think that Asian women that overdress is simply taboo to me. If I were dating an Asian, I wouldn't mind what she wears. The only thing that I would mind if she was wearing something skanky. Then, that is sort of like overdressing,.......I think(/:(). Well, anyway, like I have said, it is taboo and that's generalizing.

Stylish AM and My theory:
I agree with your theories.
AC Dropout:
"One reason why AF are so fashion conscious, or at least recent immigrant AF, is because many of the countries are manufacturering bases for name brands clothes, however, they are not allowed to sell those clothes in native countries."
Its the recent immigrants who are the LEAST fashion conscious. Like Stylish AM said, most immigrants who come to the US are living in poverty and they have no time or money to worry about keeping up with the lastest trends. Over the next several years, as they become more americanized (and materialistic, b/c that's what money allows you to do) they may become more concern about their physical appearance.

to old girl
I'm usually not this serious, but someone asked me a serious question and I had to treat the question with some respect and answer it accordingly. I think many posters here treat clothing with a very serious attitude, some are even somewhat upset over the attitudes of AFs when it comes to clothing. Far be it for me, then, to come in here and be frivolous about it...but I can be, if that's what you want to see.
Let's see...just last weekend, I bought a pair of pink-tinted heart-shaped sun-glasses ($3.00). I found the perfect matching color lipstick ($12.00) and paired it with a white peasant blouse ($15.00 some no-name brand made in India) with the fluffy sleeves that you see everywhere this spring. I wore it with my jeans (so damn old that it's priceless...I love my jeans!) and some hemp-looking platform shoes ($25.00 on sale, it was 50 bucks regular price!) that made me tower over some of the guys. Then, I got in my car and threw the top off (the car top, not my top), balled my hair into a big bun and stuck a ball-point pen (free-with my company logo on it) into it to keep it from whipping into my eyes, and I drove around Santa Cruz and enjoyed the sunshine. Total = $55.00
See if you can beat that price tag!

i don't know about you other asian girls out there, but i have this hang up about going bra-less. it really sucks cause i love those shirts with the tie backs...except i would never wear one cause i can't wear a bra with it. i feel really self conscious without a bra on cause my breasts are so small. i feel like i need all the help i can get from the old "wonderbra".
now, i know at least a dozen girls are going to post about how lucky they are to be asian with a c-cup, or someone is going to tell me to get some self-esteem...but i'm just curious about how the other flat chested girls on this panel deal with the bra-less thing.
flat, but still cute

MLK,
How about we leave the puppies at the couture and we go to the park. The puppies can pick us up when their done. ^_^

HB- the women you describe make me want to be sick! "Won't talk to anyone that's not asian or in designer"? GOD how snobby can you be? I hate asian women like that, they are so fake and plastic. Why in god's name would any man want to date someone like that??
