WHAT YOU SAY

Many Asians do not take advantage of their natural assets...the reality is that in most cases, they stand out in a crowd anyway, and trying to hide under drab baggy clothing just makes everything worse.

For one thing, young people are deluding themselves if they think that baggy clothing worn around their knees is sexy. I have asked literally hundreds of college-age women in classes I have taught if they find this style sexy and the answer is still no. The fact is that the reverse is more often true -- young people who have nice figures should wear clothing that emphasizes the figure instead of hiding it. After we age and develop tires around our guts, it is potato sack time.

Asians tend to be lean, generally shorter, darker (hair and complexioned). So, clothing that emphasizes height, a slim figure, and brighter, interesting colors is going to look better than baggy, earth monotone blah. Asians disappear in popular American clothing fads. Instead, asians should learn to develop a personal fashion style, even if it is at variance with the popular herd.

It is a pity that male fashion style is so repressive in America. Guys are so afraid of being mistake for being "gay" by narrow-minded homophobes that they are afraid to wear anything other then blue, black or brown.

well, wearing a wide legged jeans isn't bad at all, that is if it is appropriate to your body shape. I don't follow trends, what i do is ask my closest friend (or a sister around your age) on her opinion on what i am wearing. I try to merge my style with their comment to come up with a great clothing in which i will feel comfortable wearing. If my gf shops i accompany her, its a good thing when i can please her and buy clothes that look good at the the same time (What we always do is to separate our ways when we get at the mall and meet at a certain place at a particular time, and when we meet we would let each other see the clothes that we wanted to buy and ask each other's opinion. In that way we have an ample time to go somewhere else without bothering each other). Before i asked opinions coming from a girl(But don't ask every girls in town or ask too often on what they can say about what you wear or you would look silly) i looked like a fashion victim but now it feels good knowing that i impress other women by the way i dress. Most asian american doesn't have a good fashion sense (it hurts but its true) but if they just try asking their gfs and recall the color wheel on their art classes before, i'm sure they would look much better in urban clothing than those white and black americans. And being a young blooded man (18 filipino in particular) it really counts when you could attract women not just by the way you look (cause i don't really have that much face value to attract them) but by the way you act, carry your clothes, and you dress up yourself. I mean, hey guys, we do want to have them right?! In short "be simple, follow the basics in clothing, don't put so much attention on what's 'in' instead wear clothes that you are comfortable wearing."

wide leg jeans make you look like you just stole your dadą„s pants. I think Boot cuts low rise from guess and flared jeans from express look really awesome.

Litto Asian tiger,

It depends on the cloth, but yeah it can make somebody look like a fag if itą„s too tacky.

joey,

yep, in the past when i was barely entering 9th grade, wide legs where pretty popular. young asian (including me) would go to the mall and purchase a pair of Request jeans. those jeans were the S*** back in the days. 24 inch leg opening with the checkered tab on the back; evry1 wanted one.

fashion is all about keeping up. these days a lot of people just wear boot-fit jeans. the only people that wear wide legs are mostly fobs and ravers.

I don't know if this is exclsuive to NY, but Asians in New York City all follow a very similar trend in wearing pants.

Throughout High School, most of them wear wide-leg/very baggy jeans. Some so wide that they almost cover up their shoes.
Then when they go to college, these same people finally start wearing regular size jeans.
To all you guys out there, don't wear those wide leg jeans (I never did), I think they look ugly.
