I have to say accepting that you are mixed is the best way to go. If you try to act too much like either race, you just look stupid. Fact is, Eurasians dont really fit in either group, at least not without getting some looks.
Whatever though, we are all people, i dont think that it matters how you act, trying to act white or asian is really a form of self hatred. What exactly is acting "white" or acting "asian." I think if you do that, you are just conforming to stereotypes.
I have many asian, white and hapa friends, it really doesnt matter to me!
When it comes to ladies though, i would have to go Eurasian ;) Eurasian is a race just like any other, really. If you trace us all back to the roots, we all come from black people.

Malaysian Chinese girl:
I know what you are talking about. I used to dye my hair light brown...and people would always ask me if I was part Spanish. I don't know why because I personally don't feel that I look any less Chinese than others. Even a guy who has known me for a while thought I was Portugese. And when I went back to China a couple years ago...I dyed my hair black..and it was really black (my natural color's dark brown)and people there would always ask if I was from Hawaii or Indonesia.
Part of my family is from the area where China borders Russia. Oh yeah...I guess I'm suppose to be 1% Russian. But it doesn't count.
Beijing Angelique... Me is 100% CHINESE!!!!!!!!!! (F.O.B)

kenji,
"Hapa Unite!" sounds quite eccentric. I don't believe that you've more in common
with other hapas than your mixed heritage.

Naki,
Maine's too freaking cold for a Hawaii hapa like me.
[The biggest issue was that everyone stared at me....whether it was in stores, on jeeps, walking down the street, etc. But everyone was really nice and seemed excited to show me around.]
cat,
I've had that experience in Malaysia too. I don't mind it at all. Makes me feel like a celebrity. :-)
[I don't know if it would be different in Vietnam. There are a lot of "Amerasian" kids in the Philippines (as a result of the U.S bases) who live on the streets too, and they're treated pretty miserably.]
Vietnam is definitely one of the least 'hapa friendly' countries in Asia. Korea is pretty bad too (from what I hear).
I'd probably end up beating the bloody hell out of some Viet punks if I took a trip there.
[Unfortunately Maine(when I was still there) hadn't really been exposed to any kind of asian culture other than Chinese take-out and Connie Chung (which was my nickname in high school, btw) Because of this ignorance they resoted to teasing me. For some people it's easier to just pick on something than to try to understand it.]
cat,
Being called Connie Chung in highschool is pretty bad. I wonder how some haole kids in Hawaii would feel if the locals started calling them Elmer Fud.

There's a Hapa Hottie who looks like Brooke Burke working at Hooter's Woodlake here in H-Town. Care to meet for some beers and hot wings???

"Identifying with one more than the other is divisive"
Identifying with one more than the other based on language, cultural values, comfortability, etc. is human and an individual right.
"It doesn't matter which parent was asian, or if your friends are mostly one or the other."
Well, yes it does, since mother and father affect you differently. Also your friends affect your personality and social development (not to mention the language you speak) - if they don't, obviously you're not very good friends with them.
"It also doesn't matter what non-hapa think of us."
Oh good, end on a note of arrogance towards 99% of the earth's citizens. Guess what, some of us have to live in the real world and deal with what EVERYONE thinks of us. But in general we choose one group or a few groups to whose standards we think we should submit. We worry about what they think of and ignore the rest. Choosing "hapa" is not the right decision for every individual of mixed-race.

I don't consider myself asian or white. Identifying with one more than the other is divisive. It doesn't matter which parent was asian, or if your friends are mostly one or the other. It also doesn't matter what non-hapa think of us.

HI to all,
I'm a Malaysian girl, a Chinese and have been mistaken for being mixed all the time. People always thought I'm a Eurasian and one girl at my church, she always thought I was a Eurasian although she has known me for a year ( maybe she hasn't seen my parents yet ).Most of my cousins and siblings, on my father's side, look mixed, with large eyes, long eye lashes, brown hair and high bridged nose.My friend asked me whether my cousin ( a girl ) was French. It's really funny. Meanwhile, my sister and I have been called "Orang Putih" by most strangers on the street and most foreign tourist stare at me as if I look like an alien. As far as I know, I'm Chinese and not mixed, but my parents hail from different countries, that's all. My mom's from Hong Kong and dad's from Malaysia. Anyhow, I would like to learn more about my ancestry.

P-Noy:
A LOOOOOOTTTTT of White and Black men LOVE to put their Utins into a Filipina Pek-Pek too! They come to the Philippines by the millions, bringing Filipinas to the States and thus further browning the US until the Filipino People take over via the Hapas!
