WHAT YOU SAY
[This page is closed to new input. --Ed.]
hi! i'm a half jewish(dad) n half-chinese(mom) hapa in southern CA. i've never been dicriminated against. it never even occured to me until last yr (im 16) that people would b made fun of for being hapa, believe it or not! of course, i grew up in a predominantly asian city n region. ive always been proud of my heritage. i am both white n chinese n i will never deny either of my sides. the race boxes on tests always annoyed me because they always made u pick one and THEN the other. i don't want to choose one over the other. i have brown hair w/ alot of natural red/bronze highlights. i used to have natural blond streaks in the front but they went away. My eyes are double-lidded, medium sized, w/ long thick black lashes. they're medium brown and but turn light brown w/ tiny hazel highlights in the sun. they're definitely lighter than asian eyes. my skin is naturally fair but i'm a little tan. I'm 5'2. both my parents are on the shorter side. as u can judge, i look more caucasian. one friend didnt believe i was asian at first ( i have an white surname). people are amazed when i speak cantonese(as my asian grandma brags about). i have an accent and im not completely fluent but im ok. i guess i go against the hapa stereotype. i look almost completely caucasian (people can pick out my slight asianness after i tell them), altho some people kno right away ( usually asians). i am proud of my asian heritage. i hang out more with my asian family n i have more asian friends. of course, 70% of my HS is asian. i know some hapa kids. they're mostly attractive and popular. our senior class prez is hapa n a homecoming princess was hapa too. most hapas at my school stick to other asians for their close friends. i celebrate my jewish side but im not religious (only hanukkah 4 me). i love being biracial. it's unique and i have so much appreciation for other cultures. alot of hapa guys r hot! concerning, the hapa=attractive stereotype. it's not completely tru. i kno some hapas who are very very ugly. of course, most are beautiful.. i think that it just comes naturally when u mix two races. the result is exotic looking n they stick out of the crowd. of course unmixed people can b beautiful too. it's not as if hapas are better or nething. my bro looks more asian, but is often mistaken for a light-skinned latino. most hapas i kno are white/chinese. all have brown eyes. i've never seen a greeneyed hapa like kristin kreuk. she's gorgeous. i've noiced that hapas are prevalent in the media. i think it's great! i like white and asian guys equally, but lately i've been on an asian kick. it just depends. HApa guys r SO HOT! there's this one ive had my eye on n he's mexican n catonese. they're rarer tho. o well. don't care what other races think of us! it only matter what u think of urself. don't let others label u as sumthing ure not.

Jay,
Russsian are good cue. At least in Siberia they mix with Asian natives. The younger generations of Yakut and Buryat minorities (the biggest minorities of Siberia) seem to have absorbed much Russian blood,e.g. there are in some areas maybe up to 30 percent hapas(?!) if the Russians haven't manipulated the statistics for political reasons. Nonetheless in documentary films about Siberia many mixed couples with hapa children appear to a high degree.

I am Eurasian and i have brown, green, and bits of blue and yellow in my eyes is this rare for Eurasians? Most people that meet me just assume i am full European/white they are usually suprised when i tell them i am half Asian then studying me after a while they notice some slight Asian features in my face. mainly my eyes. I am not sure why i don't look more Asian than Euro. Most Eurasians I know look a lot more asian than me. So all of my friends are white, I would like it to be half and half there just aren't to many Asians or Eurasians in my area.
But it's okay i love my whitey friends :-)
One thing though, i wonder if whites every looked up their ancestry and realized they are ancient decendants of Asia. I heard that on the Dicovery channel but no one ever seems to talk about it.
I just think if they knew this maybe even more of them would have a higher interest in getting to know Asians.
Oh well sorry for rambling

Angelique,
I read about ancestry once in the newspaper. It's interesting. You know, if you have an ancestor who had green or blue or hazel eyes seven generations ago, you'll probably inherit that after seven generations. So I think Malaysian Chinese Girl?? or even your grandma probably have something in common, that is maybe they are somehow mixed

[About Hapas:
Real hapas are often very dark-pigment- ed. It depends on what the Asian parent contributes.]
rare stuff,
WTF!!!?????? What kind of shit are you smoking, amigo???
Since when are "REAL hapas" often "VERY" dark-pigmented?
WTF is your definition of a "REAL hapa"?
I was born/raised in Hawaii hapa land and have seen my fill of hapas in Malaysia too, so I damn well know what hapas look like.
Japanese, Chinese, and Korean hapas that I've met are often very fair (but not that freckly/almost no facial freckles). Many can tan fairly well using a minimum SPF of 12-15.
Most White people seem to need an SPF of at least 30-35, on the other hand.
As for DARK hapas...??? You must be talking about those mixed with Malay and Southern European or part Indonesian. But even some of those aren't THAT dark.
Over 75% of the Filipino hapas I knew in Hawaii were pretty fair or slightly tanned. The few that were a bit darker usually had a darker/less mixed Filipino parent.
Vietnamese and Thai hapas can be quite fair (though, those Viet and Thai hapa’s Asian parent was usually mixed with a bit of Chinese). Usually the fairest hapas are the half East Asian types (no shit!).
All in all, around 90% of the hapas I’ve known were quite fair. Many of which were half Chinese, Japanese, Korean, or Filipino.
Since when have you seen a dark Korean??? A visit to a sugar plantation???
Jay… the hapa who knows his stuff

[Hazel eyes are not that uncommon. My grandma has hazel eyes. Brown/green. The green part sometimes looks blue. And she is MANCHURIAN CHINESE!! I'm not saying that is a typical trait of northern Chinese...but that's how her eyes look. Many generations before her...there were some Russians....but that's not what contributed to her eyes being hazel because it was soooo long ago that it really wouldn't make a difference.]
Angelique 101% Beijinger!!!!!!!!!!,
Are you sure it wasn't your grandmother's cataracts that looked hazel?
[You don't have to be a Hapa to look good. You can be a prue breed and still look good.]
Know it,
I suppose so! In that case, it would be a matter of "good genetics" and whatever common ancestors shared by the parents are in the far far distant past.
You can say that people are more interested in the percentages of
good-looking purebreds, which is often quite low compared to mixed breeds.
[Example? i don't know. Many people do say I look like the Hong Kong actress. Her name is Li Jia Xing (Michelle Lee Reis) I think, i mean the English name. She's a eurasian right?]
Malaysian Chinese Girl??,
No shit! How do you think she got the surname "Reis"? It's not an English name, it's a Portuguese one.
Her dad's Portuguese and her mom's Chinese.
[Does anybody have a really small blue ring on the outer rim of their brown pupil? I was wondering if this was rare or not, because I have this really thin ring of blue in my eye.]
VBC,
I have no idea of whether it's rare or not and what this ring's purpose is.
We'll need an eye care specialist to enlighten us.
Like you, I too have this blue ring around my brown pupil.
[what do you guys think of Kelly Hu, the babe that's in a leading role in the new movie the Scorpion King.]
hakka-man,
I'm a big fan of Kelly Hu!
She's not your typical "halfie" hapa.
She's 1/8 Hawaiian, 1/8 English, and 6/8 Chinese.
Jay... the no nonsense hapa

I dont think Kelly Hu is hapa. Do you think all pretty asian women must be hapa?

My mother's 100% Korean and my father's 50% German/ 50% Italian. I have extremely light brown eyes, bordering on hazel. Mom and Dad's eyes are dark brown. My girlfriend is a doctor and says you definitely have higher chance of lighter eyes by being hapa. Just because both parents have dark eyes, they each may have a recessive gene for light or blue eyes. She says my dad probably has a blue eye recessive gene and mom has a light brown recessive gene, and the offspring can get light eyes from these two recessives. Sister has dark brown and brother has light brown like me. Sister looks most asian cuz, she jokes that she's mad cuz I got the light eyes and pointy raised nose.

hakka-man,
Kelly Hu doesn't look like a hapa. But I guess looks can be decieving.
As for Scorpion King. She doesn't look Egyptian. But my goodness could she wear any less clothing, not that I'm complaining or anything.
