Tall Koreans,

Hideyoshi's invasion would have nothing to do with Korean height. Hideyoshi kidnapped many Korean artisans and potters, and if anything, contributed more Korean "genes" to the Japanese islands.

If southern Koreans are shorter, it's more because of the variation in Korean stock (ex. Cheju island people). Contrary to popular belief, Koreans are not all the same, although more homogenous than most.

Furthermore, there is "little" distinction between "Northern Chinese" so-called, and Koreans -- they are both, broadly speaking, of Tungusic stock. Moreover, the Liaotung region is not traditional Han Chinese territory, but Korean/Manchurian.

OK again on the subject of height.

I heard you guys once metioning Hideyoshi and his invasions of Korea contributing to the decreased height of Koreans in the south. True in one extent. Well, they might have also gotten taller because Chinese Ming armies were also in Korea at that time. Most of them must have been northern Chinese, although a few a them were reinforcement divisions from the far south of China.

When the Ming emperor recalled back one of the Chinese generals (General Yu Chung in Korean) stationed in Korea (Kyungsang province), he and his troops brought back to Liaotung (in China near Korea) with them 10,000 Korean wives whom they kept while in Korea. Later, after 6 years these women and some of the children either fled back to Korea or were ransomed.

no name,

Napoleon's autopsy shows his height to be 5-foot-2, but some historians think this is misleading, because it was based on the old "pieds du roi" system that the French used. Now, the French were the ones who invented the metric system, but for some reason it was not widely used until 300 years after it was invented. Had Napoleon's height been given in meters, there probably wouldn't be such confusion. As for the conversion from "pieds du roi" to customary feet, my source says that it would put Napoleon at over 5-foot-6, which is not short at all for early-1800s Mediterraneans.

Hitler was not short either; he was taller than most of his fellow dictators. He was 1-2 inches taller than Mussolini, who was about the same height as Stalin. Mussolini and Stalin were probably stronger, though.

B. Lee,

Modelling agents also inflate the height of their models. I bumped into Kate Moss twice in Bond Street (London)in one day. She was not much taller than me; probably about an inch or so more at 5'6" or 5'6 1/2". But definitely not a 5'8" as reported in modelling/fashion magazines.

Similarly, there was a violinist by the name of Linda Lampenius (I think). Her agency tried to inflate her height from 5'6" to 5'9". When I saw a picture of her which cited her measurements at 5'9" and 125 lbs., I knew something was wrong: no one at 5'9" could possibly be so porky looking at that weight! Then I read about her agency which first reported her height at 5'6" but then made her "grow" since 5'9" was more of a "babe height." Go figure.

Bubba,

No, sports that make you jump a lot has nothing to do w/ growing taller. Maybe you'll be able to jump higher though.

I played in my school's middle/high school basketball team but I'm only 5'8 1/2. I wished I was around 5'10-6' though for obvious reasons. But now I don't really care. I'm just thankful I'm not a midget.

To "big" small men,

I would like to respond to your comment on Napaleon being short. Truth is Napaleon wasn't short, he was 5'4, which is average or above average at the time. But one thing I heard was his penis was small, it was said to be the size of a pinky finger, one of his rival soldiers cut it off when his body was taken from the ground to examine if he was poisoned to death. His penis is still in some private collectors house. Hitler wasn't that short either, he was 5'7-5'8, which is pretty tall in the early 1930's, but he was shorter than what he claimed to be "the perfect German" which were usually around 5'11 and up. Now if Hitler was 5'7-5'8 Statlin must of been close to it, although I have no resources on how tall Stalin is, I have seen pictures of him with Hitler and they are about the same height. I don't know about the other leaders you mentioned.
