man, ur name says it all. FYI, there are also places that are equal to japan's diet and life style and they grow to be taller then 5'5". heard of places called HK or Taiwan? i was there 3 yrs ago and most of the guys i saw walking around were at 5'9 and 5'10. last time i checked, 5'9 and 5'10 were considered tall heights. korean american tend to be around that height too.

what is up with white and height? what does that have to do with anything? im 5'8 and dont have any problem meeting girls. i even had a few white females come up to me. most of them were near my height but they didnt seem to care. they just talked to me as if i was any other guy.

and that comment about how we all look alike, well that can go both ways.

Seo Jang Hoon (South Korea, basketball player): 6'10"
Kazuhiro Sasaki (Japan, MLB pitcher): 6'4"

People, height has nothing, yes nothing, to do with race!!!in fact it has to do with diet and heredity, i can say this because first i have read it, and because i have seen it, i have chinese taller than most white girls, i have seen a chinese shorter than first graders, i have seen normal height koreans, i have seen everything!! and another factor that plays a major role for women's height is when they get their period, as soon as she gets her first period she won't grow that much anymore, thats basically her permanent height, so if u wanna get taller ride a bike! (it streches your bones), or eat properly, and if you dont have ur period yet, than hurry up and try to get taller, cuz as soon as it hits thats it! the stereotype of short asians, is probably because many immigrants from asia were short, due to lack of proper healthy diet, nothing to do with race!!

As a person who has lived in US, Korea and Japan, I could readily tell you that your observation is wrong.

Currently, there is no doubt that Asians, on average, are shorter than what you call" White Americans". But the computer school I currently attend in Korea, among the twenty guys in class, at least seven are above six feet, eight guys between 5'9 to 6 feet and the rest below that. Around seven years ago, British magazine, Economist(Magazine that is lot more credible than Maxim!) did a special on Korea and first statement from that article was the height different between Korean boys of 25 years ago and in 1993. How big was the difference? FREAKING FIVE INCHES! That means if the boy 25 years ago was around 5'6, the boy in 1993 had to be 5'11 to be avearage! What is more scary is that, from my observation, today's Junior Highschoolers are even more taller! The same phenomenon happen in Japan too. Magazine Maxim saying Japanese men averaging 5'5 is a Joke! The stat must be from 30 years ago. In Japan, the youngsters became so tall, they had to overhaul the whole school classroom. Their school desk were too low for their longer legs!

Final note:
Long time ago, bunch of Dutch(tallest among European) were shipwrecked in Korea. In one of the diary left by Dutchman detailing his experience in Korea, he desribed the physical difference between dutch and Koreans. HEIGHT WAS NEVER MENTIONED!

You have to read Maxim magazine to get all your data?! HA HA HA!!! You must be a real loser. The only people I know who read Maxim magazine are young dateless boys who can't find a real woman, so they have to read over-fantasized stories from Maxim and what not to fulfill their own desires. That's all Maxim is, a fantasy publication targeting pathetic, oversexed boys going through puberty, so the publishers and writers can make a living.

It comes as no surprise that stupid comments like the ones you made come from a white guy. While the earlier posts from people were based on readings and research of ancient studies, your beliefs are based on what you read in Maxim magazine. You're a bright one aren't you?

And if you consider us to be all the same, then why do you try to make a feeble argument to differentiate the Chinese and Japanes based on your limited knowledge of the two cultures?

You say that we're going on and on about Northern Chinese and Koreans being tall, yet you hardly see any Chinese taller than 6'. If you know how to comprehend English, you will know that the majority of Chinese in the U.S. and Canada are from southern China. OK, since you're pretty dumb, let me explain this to you...Chinese from the North are taller than the ones from the South. The previous postings all seem to reflect this and hence people write these things for people to read and understand. However, you don't seem to understand this. That's why I'm calling you a dumbass.

Why don't you face the fact that you're just a dumb white boy who can't even provide any type of credible argument. Your posting shows a lack of respect towards Asians and towards education in general (reading Maxim to learn about Asian cultures - let's all say it together, Dumbass!!), so what are you doing surfing an Asian website??!!

Oh really? No Asian person? How about the Chinese basketball players Yao Ming, 7ft 5 inches and Wang Zhizhi, 7 ft? How many white Nordics are as tall? I know of one..the Lithuanian basketball player Arvindas Sabonnis. I know of no Swede, German or Norwegian. Of course, you get a lot of 7 ft Masai warriors in Kenya. The white Germans tried to become as tall as blacks and took drugs, but they could not beat our much stronger black American women.

I do not know where you live, but the best player in the No. 3 Stanford Women's Basketball team in s Lindsay Yamasaki..and I believe her mom is Chinese or Korean. Then there are several female Asian American volleyball players who are over 6 ft.

Because 98% of the people believe it, does not mean it is right. If you say look at the Statistics or journal of nutrition, may be..not because 98% of dumb North Americans many of whom cannot perform a simple multiplication without a calculator, believe in some stereotype.

Overall you are right. However, height and weight have been determined by the environment and occupational needs. The Asians stopped hunting and fishing, as well as living in the caves, long before the Europeans did. The environmental factors and the way of life of primitive Europeans necessitated heavier weight and taller height. After all the Europeans other than Romans and Greeks did not emerge from the dark ages of hunting, fishing and plundering until 1000 years ago. By that time, the Chinese and other Asian civilizations were at a well advanced stage. The Asian civilizations needed more brainpower while Europe needed more brawn power.
