Min Yueh,
I've checked the www.hoklo.org website. It's still under construction and I hope I will be able to contribute to it when it's complete.
I'm very interested in getting more info about the Hoklos in the Guangdong province of China. The Chaozhou ren is the main group of Hoklos in Guangdong but there are other communities along the Eastern seaboard.
For many people who don't know, Guangdong is a place of many dialects and ethnicities. Cantonese refer to people who live in the Central and Western Areas. Hakka and Hoklo are spoken in the East, Southeast and Northeast Areas. Eastern Guangdong ren are actually more refined ppl, more rooted into traditions and customs, more adventureous because they were latecomers to the area. They're also more etiquette "nicer" than the typical Cantonese who are usually stereotyped as rude, impolite, greedy, or unrefined. If one visits cities like Chaozhou (Hoklo area) and Meizhou (Hakka area), he or she will find exotic customs and beauty, not found in other parts of Guangdong like Guangzhou or Taishan (Toisan) or even HK.
Btw, if u want to continue the discussion, we should post them in the Comparing Asian Nationalities section.

I don't care who was tall in the past or present. I just want to know how important is it in the dating game? Does it depend on what race woman I try to seek? In my experience, I know Middle Eastern and East European women to be more forgiving in this department. I always got the impression that Asian women were the most height conscious. I know it's stereotypes, but are there any grain of truth to this?
Some women told me that a good face would overtake taller height. Is that true too?
I'm not that tall

Sohoh:
I read your comment. I am part Manchurian and I'm not from Heiliong Jiang. Manchurian girls are very beautiful, that is recognized by almost everybody. Sorry that other people feel that Cantonese are ugly. I am not saying they are because I know there are Cantonese that are not ugly. But I have often heard that Cantonese are often short, with short legs and flat noses and such. I don't know if that's true because that's only what I heard from others. I personally don't think that people should be able to make that type of statements because it's too general. We have to admmit though, a lot of Manchurian girls are very pretty. Because of their geographical location to Russia, alot of Manchurian people actually have features that are quit western looking. They are also usually really ideal in height with very fair skin. I agree with you that people shouldn't say that all Cantonese are ugly, because not all of them are.

Min Yueh,
It is true that Hoklos are a group of people that originated from the Fujian province. Other terms are "Holo" or "Hokkien Chinese". They do make up the large % of the Chinese in Taiwan. However, the Hoklos are a diverse group. Hoklos from the Kwangtung Province (Cantonese) such as the Chaozhous and others are very different from the Taiwanese in both culture and language.
Some people like the Cantonese are confused with the Hakkas and the Hoklos, thinking they're the same group of people. They are quite a number of Hoklos (in Fujian, Kwangtung and Taiwan) who can speak Hakka as well, sometimes they are referred as Hokkas or Hakka speaking Hoklos. The pure Cantonese are the least sociable of the Chinese groups and they never learn to associate with the Chaozhous, Hoklos and Hakkas living in Kwangtung. But Hoklos and Hakkas have learned to become friends with one another(in Mainland and also Taiwan).
Btw, the Hoklos are very fond of seafood. In fact, the best seafood found among the Cantonese are from the Chaozhous and the Cantonese speaking Hoklos, also among the Taiwanese as well.
I think Hakkas are tall because of their Northern origins while Hoklos are tall because of their nutrition.
Sohoh,
True Cantonese are those from the Western and Northwestern regions of Kwangtung Province. Those people who speak the Toisan dialect and the other dialects in neighboring areas are considered "Cantonese". Those who live in the East and the Northeast are either Hakkas or seafaring fishermen such as the Chaozhous and Hoklos. They learned to speak Cantonese in places like HK or Guangzhou. It's funny because everyone thinks Cantonese are just one big group, but in fact, they are made up of several groups with different cultures and origins.
