Houston's Galleria Mall was the site of one of the Many Protests against A&F's racist shirts this past weekend (Sat Apr 27th). About 100 students from HCC, Rice, U of H, High Schools and UT-Austin participated in the picketing on the corner of Westheimer and Post Oak.

Note that Austin is about half the size of Dallas and yet it has the same raw # of Asian Americans. Note also that out of these major cities in Texas, Dallas has a VERY SMALL percentage of its total population that are Asian American.

Notice also that in the Houston area, Fort Bend County, home of suburbs like Sugar Land and Katy, has about double the percentage of Asian Americans as Harris County and Houston City.

In raw numbers Harris County has the largest Asian American Population, with the city of Houston having the largest #s represented. In terms of percentages, Houston and Austin were right around the national average for API populations, while Dallas was FAR BELOW the national average. Although Sugar Land and Katy city data were unavailable, out of all the counties in Texas, they had the largest percentage of Asian Americans. Considering that these are suburbs of Houston, this tells us a lot about the Houston area.

Based upon feedback written in this and other forums here at GoldSea as well as corroborating it with the Census Data, we can conclude the following:

Asian Americans in Texas tend to do better when there's a minimum of 5% of the local population being of Asian ancestry. This makes Houston City, and Harris and Fort Bend Counties by far to be the best place for Asian Americans in Texas. Austin City and Travis County is a close second. Out of the major cities shown, Dallas is the WORST major city in Texas for Asian Americans. This is based upon feedback given in the forums, the low %age of the population and the general reputation Dallas has for being racist.

There you have it folks.
