A question for the Post.
I have a general question, and please, it is just a question.
I am in the process of having my boyfriend, who is from China arrive in Houston after the K Visa is approved. I would like to ask individuals in the post what should I do to help him adapt to the city?
We will live in the SW side of Houston and I would like to introduce him to everything here, but not all at once. What should be the first thing that I should help him with so that he will not be over whelmed in a new country and city? I would really appreciate your help.
His English is great and I know he would be happy here.
Thanks in advance for your help :)

I've been following the discussions for some time now to get a taste for what living in Houston will be like.
Anyway, I'll be moving down in several months and was wondering where would be a good place to live. I'm from Chicago originally and would like something comparable to Lincoln Park/Lake View in Chicago. Something a bit urban with stuff to do (i.e. trendy restaurants, outdoor cafes, etc.) and where most of the young professionals live. I also need to live relatively close to the Medical Center. The only thing people have told me is to stay away from condoland.
Thanks.

Please look into this link for the officail Metropolitan area Population by National Census Bureau. DFW area edges out Houston Metro for the 9th largest metropolitan area... notice the metro area for Houston included Galveston county and all counties in between.
Moved from Houston to the DFW area...and loved it here much better area by far.

There was a series of detailed articles in this past Sunday's Houston Chronicle giving a detailed account of the development of Westside Chinatown, the Asian American population in Houston and surrounding areas and the contributions they have made to the region. Some of the details they described included their various entrepeneurial actions and on the development of Asian American churches as part of the social structure in Houston.
The article indicated that a lot of the merchants who've developed the area have come from California, New York, Taiwan and Viet Nam. The Vietnamese merchants have been most successful because they have been willing to take the most risks. A lot of the CA Asian Americans who've relocated to Houston were able to sell their homes for around $500K, which left them enough money to buy a nice house in houston ($200K) and start a business ($300K) which they worked into successes. Also, a lot of the Asian Americans in Houston have invested time in recruiting fellow entrepeneurs from Asia and other areas of the nation to come and take advantage of Houston's business environment--no state income taxes, cheap commercial real estate, lack of cold weather, racially tolerant population and diverse economy.
H-Town is THE place for Asian American enterpeneurs to go!!!

To Hapa Intellect,
Not all Asians have Asian surnames. My lady friend is pure Vietnamese to the core. Her parent's are pure Vietnamese as well. But their legal last name, the name that appears on her driver's license is American. Why? Her family chose to take surname of their sponsor family.

Saigon Hippie,
How in the hell could Mr. Lewis be Vietnamese, unless he's an adoptee?
FYI- Lewis is not a Vietnamese surname.
Get your head straight, son!

Andrew Xiaoliang Campbell,
nah, you got me all wrong. i don't considered people who speak english or watch sports to be "white-wash".
i could explain what white-wash asian means to me, but you might not agree with me.
im sure houses over there are nice and big, but is the area or schools minority freindly?
im also sure there are what i call "typical asian" in katy or cinco ranch, but the fact is, no asian around here wants to go to katy or anywhere around there (unless they are just there to visit/pick up a friend or unless their parents bought a house there so they have no choice but to go.
