WHAT YOU SAY

Yeah, but is it wrong of the Chinese person to assume that another Asian looking face in the neighborhood, would also be Chinese? If Japanese are not that prevalent in that area, one would not expect to see one. It's not like you are in a neutral area like the mall or something, where all races hang.

I'm Chinese, and Viets come up to me and say Vietnamese all the time. Do I get offended? No! I just tell them I'm not Viet. Talking with a funny accent only makes you look as bad as those old Hollywood movies with yellowface white actors. I know Asians don't like each other, but mocking each others' language is just plain wrong. It's not like people don't make fun of the Japanese language either... that is, if most Japanese born here even speak it.

true to the soul ABC,

You are wrong.

In Gardena and Torrance, the vast majority of Japanese Americans CANNOT speak Japanese. They speak in unaccented American English.

Go and dance at the closing ondo at Nisei week. Aside from the traditional songs coming from a cassette, no one is speaking Japanese.

The Nisei week court and queen? Must be at least 1/2 Japanese. None speak Japanese either.

F***L.A.
Why are you player hating on the asian brothas. YOU LIVE IN L.A.! no matter where you go somebody is going to speak to you in a different language. if you are in downtown you might get a little spanish. If you are in Inglewood you might get a little ebonics. the point is, when making your way around LA, and when you hear a different language when being spoken to, you don,t need to get pissed off to the point where you feel the need to go online just to say "I CAN'T STAND IT ...I'M OUT OF HERE". Here are a few points of interest that you might want to check out J-town (Little tokyo), Gardena, Torrance. For your shoping needs try Yohan or Mrukai, for sushi try Homakawa, where to stay when your out of town the New Otani. Oh, lets not forget up coming events, Nisei Week where they hold the annual Tofu festival and while there try to participate in the Samuri 5K (its for a good cause). a little more info for you, the beauty queens for this event are most always 1/4 japanese and 3/4 whatever else (asian, white, hispanic, ect...). Hope that helps with finding a fit for your comfort zone.

hello -) writes

"how typical of a japanese person to invade chinese territory only to attempt to assert japanese superiority."

I don't see where in the "Japanese person's post that they attempted to assert superiority of anykind.

If the case was that this person insisted that the other Asians in San Gabriel speak to her/him only in Japanese, your assertions might have merit. Absent this admission, your assertion is pure speculation and only serves to evoke hostility in the reader.

The Japanese person is complaining that the FOBs speak their native language to her/him (instead of English). That is the basis of her/his complaint. Can you argue that to insist that one speak English in America is unreasonable?

hello -) also wrote

"you're eventually going to have to leave the san gabriel valley, just like your ancestors eventually had to leave nanking."

This anology would work only if, like in Nanking, the Chinese were there before the Japanese invaded. Here, the Japanese person was in San Gabriel Valley first. Now with the influx of these FOBs, you would now suggest that the Japanese person who is born in America move, despite the Japanese person being there before the FOB's Nanking-like "invasion"?

You know what? "oui-lang-fong-si kwan Oh La OHH LAAAH" to you too!
