I totally agree with ANOTHER OPINION, it's a comedy spoofing the whole 60's and 70's eras. It's just a funny movie, that's it!!! So get your self a sense of humor and enjoy it!!

Hmmm, I am not Asian and I didn't see most of the movies in this questionnaire, so I cannot judge how good or bad they are..., but I am just a little bit surprised about the results. Cause I've seen Breakfast at Tiffany's, and I personally think it is a really nice movie, and even though I haven't seen it since the beginning, I can definitely say that I don't think the movie is about Asian Americans or about Asians at all... I think it is about the love romance btw Audrey Hepburn and whoever plays the fellow who is her friend... There is like one Asian guy in the whole movie who once gets angry (angry neighbour) and that's it. And Audrey Hepburn is very pretty; I think overall she is one of the most beautiful female actresess ever, if not the most beautiful herself! And you guys should know she did a lot of charity work before she died from cancer, like she went to third-world countries and help take care of children there and that is a very good accomplishment, I think. The other movie I've seen is Joy Luck Club, and it didn't seem that bad to me either... I guess it's just a description of what life was like in China before the Communist Revolution, and I like how the movie was made so vividly, i.e. the traditional chinese dresses, the buildings, the music, the atmosphere etc. By the way, I think that movie is based on a book written by Amy Tan, who is an Asian-American (or Chinese-American) herself, I believe (I read one of her other books "The Kitchen God's Wife" but didn't really like it cause the story is kind of cruel and mean, so I cannot really enjoy it). I think those kinds of movies are better than let's say action movies or horror movies... too much cruelty and violence there and it's not healthy to watch. Oh, I guess I should say I have a Chinese boyfriend so you guys don't all flare up at me... well, that's it, just my two cents in the pot.

>>DISGUSTING, especially since Mike Myers' wife is of Filipina ancestry!>>

I'm sure that statement would come as an immense surprise to Robin Ruzan, who Mike Myers' wife. She's Jewish and does not have any Asian ancestry at all.
Goldmember is a parody movie and it pokes fun at lots of ethnicities, not to mention the whole 1960s and 1970s fashions. If the movie only focused on Asians, I could agree with the sentiment of "boycotting" it. But look at the character of Fat Bastard---I've never heard of any person of Scottish descent demanding a boycott because the character happens to be absolutely disgusting and obviously Scottish. Similarly, what about Beyonce Knowles' character? It's a clear reference to the "blaxploitation" movie characters from the 1970s, where black men were always portrayed as either pimps or drug dealers and the women were sluttish sex fiends.

My point is that Mike Myers isn't focusing his attention solely on any race. His wife is Jewish and yet one of his most memorable characters from SNL was Linda Richman, based on his wife's mother. The character of Linda Richman was about as strong a parody of the Jewish yenta as you could find. Was it mean-spirited and racist? That depends on your perspective but I would argue that it was not.

That was supposed to be "Fook Yu" and "Fook Mi" If you see some of the commercials that have been airing for Goldmember, you see this two actresses dressed in little Sailor Moon unforms with long socks, short skirts and sanrio backpacks, but with Union Jacks on the front of the sweaters.

"I am Yu. Fook Yu. And-a theez eez a my Tween seesata Fook Mi!" and they're both all over that rotten-toothed Mike Meyers character.

DISGUSTING, especially since Mike Myers' wife is of Filipina ancestry!
Once Again, BOYCOTT GOLDMEMBER!!!    Monday, July 22, 2002 at 13:45:14 (PDT)
Don't look any further than the next Austin Powers Installment (Goldmember) for yet some more stereotypical portrayals of Asian women. Carrie Ann Inaba and Diane Mizota are playing the characters "Fook Yu" and "Food Mi" in this movie. Bottom line, no respect from this movie production company so no money from AAs or friends thereof.

Just Once,

Sean Connery was in the Highlander movies. He played an immortal Spainard, who fancied himself as an Egyptian.

Pierce Brosnan was the con man in Remington Steele TV show. Didn't he fake various European accents in that show.

Just Once:

It's a lot deeper than that. The Irish, Welsh and Scots look at the English as invaders from Germany and Rome who came and colonized our Islands without our permission. The Celtic peoples who inhabited these isles were enslaved and nearly culturally and genetically exterminated much like the Japanese tried to do in Southern China and Corea. There is no love for the English from the people of Celtic heritage and the hate runs deep.

Once again, casting a Scot or an Irishman or a Welshman in the role of an English is just as offensive as casting a Corean as a Japanese.
