WHAT YOU SAY
[This page is closed to new input. --Ed.]
HTY,
Syosset is in Long Island. It's definately not NYC! If you are going stay there, you will be bored to death, it's basically a suburban area with large acres of unfilled land. Like what AC said, it's a 30 min car ride from there to the city. People who can't afford an apartment in Manhattan or a house in some nice part of Queens or Brooklyn, live in Long Island with a bargain price house and 10 acres of empty land.
There is a nice place to visit in Long Island and that would be Fire Island, which is a little strip of land below Long Island. It's an affluent area with nice beaches, home to some millionaires and billionaires, and definately the only resort area in the Tri State Area close to NYC. If you want to get that "New England Country Feel" but want to be in proximity to the city, Fire Island is the place.
I don't want to make generalizations, but most Asians who live out in Long Island don't give an ass f*** about the big apple. They come to the city either for work or a trip to Chinatown, and that is about it.
So if you want to explore the city, discover it by yourself, don't let any of these Asian Long Islanders take you to places. Take it from me.

H T Y,
If you in Syosset, you're not in the City. You have to drive 30 mins or so just to make into the city.

One thing I noticed about NYC is the lack of attractive WFs, and most of them do not have warm personalities. It's not that all of NYC's people are cold and unfriendly, but I seem to get the feeling that most WFs in this city don't really have much to show for.
In simple terms, they are bland in looks, and in personality.
Besides New Orleans and parts of the West Coast, places with very attractive WFs, I have been to other East Coast cities and areas where Asians are not heavily populated, but somehow, I've seen many nice, warm, and stunning WFs with very beautiful smiles.
I don't know what is the reason behind all of this.
Is it me or someone else out there thinks the same?
On the issue of Chinatown...I am a CA who doesn't like Chinatown, not that I'm a sellout or an white washed ABC. But the fact that NYC Chinatown is a place where Chinese exploit other Chinese. This is bothersome to me when I see and hear how Chinese are psychologically, and at times, physically abused by their fellow Chinese.
Chinatown on the surface resembles an exotic disneyland, but if you look closely, you will unmask its true dark identity...
On the issue of love.... they actually did a survey, and they discovered that NYC is not a great place to find love or get a date..why? because NYC is an intense city, everyone is more concerned with $$$ and making a living, life here is hard and fast. People here are very nerved (hardened) and not as approachable in other places. So to approach a stranger takes much courage, and be prepare to look like a fool!
As one can say, in NYC, you see many people, but have very little connections with them!
On the bright side..you can become a better person in this place, if you live in NYC and want to shine, and look your best, you have to be funnier, more open, more tolerant, more disciplined, and most of all, more patient.
NYC is a tough place to live and work, more of a learning city

Hey!
I'm going to New York for the next three to four months for vacation, and was wondering if anyone could tell me the places you find fun to hang out at...not necessarily the night life...
Also, where is Syosset? I've NEVER heard of it! How's the area around there? I'm staying there, so any suggestions would be wonderful!
Thanks in advance!
