My favorite author is Marie G. Lee...she is i think Korean but i love two of her books called Neccesary Roughness which talks about an asian guy who went to a school with alot of racist peoples and also Finding My Voice talks about a girl who was made fun of because of her eyes and she was also Korean..so EVERYBODY read one of the books trust me you will like it!!!

A really good book that I read recently relating to Asians would be Arthur Golden's "Memoirs of a Geisha" A national best seller. This novel is basicly about the life a Japanese girl who went on and became a Geisha. I like it alot. There's talk that the book might be made into a movie soon...by Steven Spielburg. Possibly with a cast including HK movie star...Zhang Man yue. I haven't heard anything about who the leading role would go to. I have a feeling that this would be another movie that can make an impact to Asians in the media...for better or worse. Comparing to Crouching Tiger and Hidden Dragon...I wonder who would be the next Zhang Zi Yi.

Cathy Wong is absolutely right. Murakami is a treasure. He transcends the "Asian author" pigeonhole and should be placed simply among the all-time great authors, irregardless of race or gender.
I only wish I could read Japanese to get a peek beyond the translations.

I really like the poetry of Cathy Song, who is Chinese, Japanese and Korean and who is from Hawaii. I love Shawn Wong's "American Knees" and Fay Myenne Ng's "Bone". I also would recommend "Comfort Woman" by Nora Okja Keller.

I am only aware of Amy Tan is a famous AF writer...I believe that more AF writers should be mentioned in important newspapers in order to raise public interest.

Cathy Wong, it's so refreshing, and frankly sexy, to know that at least one AF doesn't only read Amy Tan.

Reason to hope.

My favorite author of all time is truly Haruki Murakami. He is maybe not a true "asian american writer" but whatever. His stories are intriguing and his characters are fabulous. Murakami's descriptions are incredible. The links he makes in his stories are surprising. I love reading his novels. It is the kind of novels you would read until 4 in the morning just to get a glimpse of the end of the story. It is beautifuly written. Haruki Murakami is a writer full of passion. He is able to take every single detail of every small feeling in life and put it into powerfull words just to give you goosebumps and to make you think deeply after. Haruki Murakami is truly the best. Everybody should take the time to read at least one of his books, to then get carried on and read the rest of his books, just like i did !
