Bernard,

"Don't you know all African Americans are mixed. During 300 years in America, blacks have intermixed with native Indians and Europeans. If you look at African Americans today, they have different skin hues unlike blacks in Africa, who are uniformly dark. Kimora Lee Simmons's father is not 100% black, but mix with european or/and natives. Check your history and read the encylopedia about African Americans. "

I know roughly 80% of African-Americans are mixed with White. And I'm well aware of the color ranges. However, Blacks in Africa are not uniformely dark, shows how little you know. Africa is a continent and there are many hues of African just like African-Americans, go get a picture book or something.

Even if kimora Lees dad is part Native and part White, how does that make her only 1/16 Black? Even if her dad were only half Black that would still make her at least 1/4 Black. If she were only 1/16 Black, I seriously doubt her dad would even be called a Black man.

Alexandria 81,
what's keeping you from moving out of that place then?
Find a place with more Asians.    Sunday, November 04, 2001 at 18:31:14 (PST)
...Blacks would have never had the type of culture they have in America if they weren't exposed to whites.

Damn, what a statement! Only a true genius would have written such words of pure truth and knowledge! (snicker)

O.K. Jokes aside.

El guess what? Blacks weren't exposed to whites by normal social contacts, they were owned by whites. Whites who didn't mildly influence them. It was a case of either learn my white language and my white culture or get to swinging by your neck on the nearest oak tree.

Some exposure, eh?    Saturday, November 03, 2001 at 19:45:17 (PST)
To the Selah/EL person:

Your hatred and stupidity has been bouncing from one Goldsea forum to the next. One moment you're insulting blacks as if you're white, then you're insulting whites as if you're black, then you pretend that you're Asian and now you're here calling biracial individuals "mutts" to insult them. What a sorry life you must lead troll.

Oh, Jay,
Mike(?) on ~The Real World XX~ is from Parma, which is not too far from me. When he said earlier that he had very little exposure to other races due to his location, BELIEVE the brother *lol*

DBL DRGN...ah, the days of my youth when I could watch TV at my leisure...*sigh!* =) http://groups.yahoo.com/group/DrgnzLair    Friday, November 02, 2001 at 16:33:34 (PST)
EL,
Not to battle mikes, but by your own definition, every race has culture, having been exposed long term to things that have become tradition. By tradition, gospel music is a part of any culture who embraces it, whether it was "cleaned up" or down & dirty.

I agree. There are plenty of things that would have been different for blacks in America if they weren't exposed to whites. Maybe for the better.

DBL DRGN...who doesn't need "cleaning up" =)    Friday, November 02, 2001 at 16:00:47 (PST)
Tsk Tsk,
You should take a moment to read the first tagline. When you do, you will realize that I stated interest in a "different point of view," implying that I do have my own belief.

I didn't come in here begging for your lame attempt at a snappy come-back, nor did I ask for an "answer." An opinion related to the topic --instead of YELLING-- would have been sufficient.

Even better would have been silence.

DBL DRGN...more class, less making an @ss of yourself =) DBL_DRGN@hotmail.com    Friday, November 02, 2001 at 15:39:54 (PST)
Jay,
I feel you 100% on the race-consciousness. It's actually alot of blacks that ask if my husband is Latino -- they figure this is what produced her "Puerto Rican" looks from a dark-skinned mother. I have never known for there to be a standard appearance that represents a person of Filipino descent, but that's everyone's favorite guess when they see our son.

Race wasn't a heavy issue for me until I started getting back different documents I had filed within our State and my kids' ethnicities would be changed from what was expressed by myself or husband. I thought, man, that's "f-ed" up. Some Mr./Ms. Unknown at county thinks they know better than I do(!) *lol*

Well, right now, they are babies (10 months), so they are at a tender age where they can still play w/out prejudice. They do have some playmates around their age that are also multicultural (Chinese/Black, Black/Irish), so even now they are getting exposure to different backgrounds.

Thank You, Jay. I appreciate your response =)
DBL DRGN...enjoying them while ~nearly~ everything they do is still cute =) DBL_DRGN@hotmail.com    Friday, November 02, 2001 at 15:24:05 (PST)
EL:

American is a way of life. White American and black American are discoveries made by two groups of people who could not and cannot stand each other. Before Europeans of all persuasions came to the Americas, there were no whites and blacks: simply Germans, Italians, English, etc, or Wolof, Mandiga, etc. Europeans of different persuasions intermarried and became white. Even sworn enemies such as the Hugonauts of South Carolina and the Catholic Cajuns of Louisiana intermarried with each other because there were strangers in their midst, ie., black slaves. Ever fearful of the slave uprisings, everyone became white. Meanwhile, through interbreeding by the slave masters, everyone from Africa became black. So, white and black are American discovery. Meanwhile, the term Hispanic is an ingenious American invention.

When I ride throught Chesterfield, I see a LOT of Asian people. There isn't a Chinatown in Chesterfield, but there is a Chinese school there. In fact, (& this is proof that St. Louis truly sucks to the bone) We really don't have a Chinatown. The closest thing to a Chinatown is Olive St. It has restaurants, markets, salons, & it's own newpaper printer! In south St. Louis, the Vietnamese have their restaurants, music/book stores, markets, & clothing stores! Chinese people have treated me better although both races are really nice to me. Then again, I think I am a little strange to Vietnamese people, I frighten them. OF COURSE I have seen Blasian kids, I went to school with Blasians & Wasians. I've never seen any Lasians though. Finally, I blame my attraction to Asian men on Bruce Lee & my brothers. My brothers used to watch Kung Fu movies & my eldest brother had posters of Asian women on his wall & a lot of magazines on martial arts/weapons when he was in high school (I was about 3 at this time). I became wrapped up in Asian stuff at an extremely early age. Looking at all those kung fu movies & pictures in the magazines just set me off. Bruce Lee & Chiang Sheng were the icing on the cake. I was through from there! So I'd say it was Chinese men at the age of three. Until then, I had a crush on Gary Numan (look up his stuff from the early 80's). Yes, 2 & 3 year olds can have crushes on people. Even kids know who's hot! I saw Asian men as strong, protective, and (at the time) cute! Since I grew up feeling this way, I never bought into the stereotypes against Asians, especially men. Well, that's my nutshell's worth for today. Did I explain everything? Hope so.

Actually, Selah, "Black" gospel music started out as secret codes to help each other ecsape slavery and to remember that there is a God to watch them & see them to safety. Blacks did not get gospel from Whites. Gospel hynms can be felt whereas White chruch music is simply listened to. Whites have no feeling in their songs. I don't know about singers being sent to Europe, but I do know that 18th century gospel was sung with feeling and sincerity rather than something that was mere tradition as doned in the White churches.
Selah, judging from your two posts, you seem very racist against against people of color, especially Blacks. Why? In concern with Mariah Carey's ethnicity, she is going by the one drop rule just like everyone else. When she was just an average person and a nobody, she was just Black. Now that she is famous she becomes "multi-racial"? It is not the mixed kids claiming to be part of the minority, it is Whites not wanting them because they are colored. Where else can they go? It wouldn't really be cool the claim something that doesn't want to claim you.
