WHAT YOU SAY

[This page is closed to new input. --Ed.]
The "one drop" rule was made up by Southern men to justify their poor treatment of their slave offsprings with black women.
This way in the eyes of the law since the child is "black" the violator wouldn't have any responsiblity or obligation to his offsprings since they weren't white.
But, this law was not intended for white/asian unions. The "one drop" doesn't apply here.
For example, even the Simese twins were married to two white women who were sisters during the 19th century. They had like 7 kids each. But they were never categorized as "Asian." It has understood they were white/asian. I think people will catorgized biracial children depending on whichever race they look more alike when it comes to white/asian chidren.

Thank you, all, for your input...Your posts were all very helpful, informative, and provided me with a frame of reference. I did manage to get in touch with the local hospital I told you guys about in my earlier post, and this is what I was told:

(1): Many years ago, they (mt local hospital) use to place the race of the child on the certificate (but no longer, they do that), and in the case of a child with mixed heritage, they would categorize the child as according to whatever race the mother claimed herself to be.

(2): Now-a-days, they (my local hospital) only record the race of the parents, and as according to the personnel I talked with (who's in charge of that service), she admitted she wasn't for sure if it goes on the actual certificate of birth, or not (she advised me to contact the state's "vital records" dept. for that info.). By the way, she did go on to say that "Each state in the U.S. does things differently, and has their own rules and regulations about birth certificates/vital records"

(3): The personnel I talked with also said that, as far as the child's racial identity is concerned, it's pretty much up to the child, themselves, to place their own identity, when they get older and have to fill out forms that may ask questions about their racial identity (assuming the child is from the state of my local hospital).

But anyway...whatever the matter, I strongly agree with you Yojoh, I too belive the racial identity of the child should include the ethnic identity of both parents.

Thanks everybody!

Disgusted Non Asian Person,

I think that survey is only limited in the USA.

There have been psychological studies on sex and mating habits of humans. It is call the "template theory." It would seem people will make psycological template of their ideal mate when the are very young. The color of hair, eyes, personality, shape of body etc. of a perfect mate are all determined before a person reaches sexual maturity. These preferences are all based on personal experience of the individual. So if an asian is exposed to only non-asian growing up, the theory proposes that the template of the ideal mate for that person will be non-asian.

I was in the Ford Presidential Library once, going over some asian research material. It would seem during President Ford term their was a socialogical study of Chinese asians. It was concluded that Chinese marrying habits were very similar to Cuban immigrants. By the 3rd generations Asian are pretty much assimlated into mainstream culture and will have a high probability of marrying outside of their ethinicity.

Anyway what's to be disgusted about. The future is that we look like Filipinos that all. ^_^

"And by the next generation (if this were to happen) 92% of the world would either be Asian or half-Asian, and only 7.3% would be non-Asian.

What a calamity!!!"

Disgusted Non-Asian Person:

The Asians do not have to mix with non-Asians for the latter to become extinct. Wars in the Middle East, Afghanistan, and other places would contribute mightily to that phenomenon. The white population in Europe is declining in absolute terms, especially in Eastern Europe. At this rate there would not be any pure Romanian at the end of the century and the white Europeans would be an extinct species. If war starts anew somewhere else, it would only hasten the process. By 2150 almost the whole world would have some Asian blood. Take it or leave it.

which will be fantastic because you would have really bright people running around in this world.

Why thanks for all the positive comments on Danes and Danish society in general. I realise that our social welfare system is a treat that not everybody is so privileged to have. But I must tell you that I grew up in the province so Copenhagen is even a melting pot compared to my town.

My wife and I are expecting our first child in March. I called the Harris County Department of Records here in Houston and asked them how they handle the ethnicity issue for multiethnic kids--they said that CURRENTLY it is the PARENTS who fill out the Birth Certificate as far as ethnicity goes and NOT THE DOCTOR. The Parents are allowed to fill in/check the boxes of ALL THAT APPLY, just like on the most recent US Census.

I can assure that when March 2002 rolls around, we will be checking BOTH the Asian/Pacific Islander and Caucasian/White boxes.
