WHAT YOU SAY

[This page is closed to new input. --Ed.]
oh woooooooeeee! it's me again!

what should I do?

I want to quit my job, but I am too old to quit, and I don't have enough money saved to quit and go back to school --besides that, I don't have the people skills to get into school for something I would care to learn (I could never stand to be any personal healthcare practioner, even though that's where my actual interests lie).

what do people do for joy?

yes, go for what ya "really, really want" ... but don't forget ya gotta pay the bills. so don't quit your day job in the mean time --make sure to back up your dreams with some back-up plan education.

I am happy to see that novelist and film director are among the career choices AA are dreaming about. We need to broaden out from science/doctor/lawyer type stuff and go for what we really, really want.

Overambitious,

I don't disagree with you about the scrifrice and discpline and dreams.

As for getting old...We all get old and die someday. Statistically speaking you have another 60 years on this planet before you croak.

Now that you realise you still have a lot of time. You just need to figure out what you want in life.

Some your friends have cars, house, and family as their goals. Their goals are not your goals. If you have similar goals as your peers great. If you don't, then don't use them as some sort of benchmark in life.

Overambitious and need to tone down,
Having a successful carrer is only a small part of your life. Of course you need some income to sustain your family, food, and other vital necessities. 50k a year should be more than enough to enjoy a satisfying life. I used to think getting a $$$$ job after college would make a difference in getting that sweet revenge from the people who have dumped me, doubted my success, showed off their paycheck to paycheck payment toy car, turned their back on me, and criticized me for being broke and nerdy. So let's say you do get where you want to be at and have the sufficient income to buy anything you want, you think those people can care less. In my view, you can't just get those ignorant and money-minded people to shut the F up by getting there. They will find a new way to criticize each time you upgrade to another level. What's most important is you have a family or wife/gf that appreciates your hard work on earning that every deserving penny.

AC Dropout,

I think I'm getting old at the age of 26. To this point I'm surrounded by a fog, I do not have a house nor a car and still have not made any solid plans for real adulthood. I'm still that bumbling individual trying to find a niche. Many of my friends at my age are getting married, bought homes and cars.

I am getting valuable info from the classes but like I said before, much of the material can be self taught and learned more efficiently. I'm just trying to obtain the piece of paper better known as the Cert.

I think anyone can pursue their goals but these days we are so constrained with time that many our goals are never met. One last thing, discipline and sacrifice are the two main ingredients in fulfilling a goal. The more you want out of life, the more sacrifices you have to make. It's a funny trade off.

Over ambitious and need to tone down,

You're doing fine. You've only been out of school 3 years and you make more money than 90% of the USA. The average income in the USA is around $28,000 a year.

Okay, I had plans to be a Olympic Taekwon Do Competitor, a practicing MD, and attract a secret harem of beautiful girls. None of those of come to reality after college either.

But I did learn that we are have limitations and cannot get everything in life.

You have to focus on what is important to you. If being a online entrepeur is important to you than go for it.

As for the classes. Are you really getting nothing out of it? Or you just think you are getting nothing out of it?

Before I started my business I spent a lot of time at the book store. Everything for HTML, Mail Order, Worm Farm, Real estate, Clothing. Thank God for the Browsing = Purchasing philosophy at the big chain book stores.

But like I stated first find out which of the goals you have are the most important. Then let that be your focus for 1 or 2 years.

At least you see the shortcoming of ambition and impatiences. Most people don't see that as a flaw. So you have a good head between you shoulders. Now just set a goal and slowly build towards it.
