WHAT YOU SAY

I just returned from the Olympicaide games in Beijing China. I saw the Chinese Men's Team versus the US Men's Team live and in person at QingHua University. The Chinese won by ONE point in the last 0.2 seconds when Yao Ming stuffed the hell out of the US.
You bet you ass I was screaming like mad for the Chinese team.
The funniest thing was that whenever the US fans would start chanting "USA USA!" The Chinese would look at each other, pause for a second, and then proceed to tear down the stadium screaming "Zhong Guo Dui!!"
What a sight :)

Lee, mmmm what the hell are you babbling about? I'm Asian American but I don't get your point. What does one guy's comment about the Williams sisters have to do with Indians or Arabs getting killed or 99 percent of the serial killers being white?
Just for your information you left out
Genghis Khan
Kublai Khan
Mao
Hirohito
Tojo
Attila the Hun
Khmer regime
I'm sure I left many out but anyway they all happened to be Asian
So back to school and learn some more.
Lee, those aren't cigerattes

Kournikova, Hingis, Capriatti and the white women of the Purdue women's volleyball team are fine looking human babes indeed. Indeed, they belong in a Miss America or Ms. Universe competition. Not on the Sports field, ie., a tennis or volleyball court.
They cannot win anything worth a damn!!

I hope whoever wrote this crap above is not one of us(Asian American)!! I really do hope so..if god forbid you are indeed one of us..you are a disgrace to your race and human being as a whole period..
You haven't learn anything obviously in the last few week when the World Trade ctr was destroyed. U know what? since that day so many Arab looking, Indians and even some Asian American have been beaten up and attacked, some Indians even killed just because someone who looks like them did that shit to WTO..
Remember the AA Scientist that was accused of spying for China..just because of his Ethnicity!
Remember during the Second World War ..what happened to the Japanese Americans..
Soon if some AA did something serious like the WTO, you will see what the ALL MIGHTY WHITE AMERICAN WILL DO TO US.. we will all be rounded up and put in a camp...it happened before...trust me!
Remember that 99.9999% of all the serial killers are white!
Look at the history of the world.. the most horrible things has been done by them..
Lenin
Stalin
Hitler
Timothy Macveigh
I can go on forever.....
We need to look into ourselves before we starts calling other people names..
Either you or me like it or not the BLACKS have more power than us..politically(Colin Powell,Condi Rice sociologically...numerous to mention..just have to look at so many white boys and even some AA who are into Black culture...thier culture simply dominates the youth culture..even the "king" Elvis admitted copying their style of music and so are the Beatles and Rolling Stones.
At my Age, everyone know how Michael Jordan or Tiger Woods(blasian)influence them.
I might be only 16 but i hae more common sense than you...grow up and stop acting as if you are jealous.

Simple comments on this issue....I cheer for Asian athletes simply because in general, asians/asian americans are not always viewed as "great" athletes. There are few exceptions of course in professional sports.
But my impression is that if you were a basketball team from the midwest and travled to San Francisco to take on one of the public school teams there, it would be a culture shock. On the SF team, you'd get the regular black, white and maybe hispanic guys. But more often than not, you'll get your share of ASIAN guys (or girls). And not just bench warmers and not just short little 5'4" guys. You get some good players and ocassionally some big guys.
Asians fight a lot of stereotypes every day and when Asian athlets knock off other countries, I am happy for them.

I did NOT want either Williamses to win. They have attitude problems bigger than the universe. capriati is someone very admirable. she came back after several years of having a low-point.

Now I will definitely root for the US. See attachment below. The Williams sisters: they really beat the crap out of the white females Jennifer Capriati and Martina Hingis.

I root for teams and individuals who has some perceived commonality. I root for Washington Redskins because they are in same geographic proximity. I root for Sakuraba because he looks like me (or I look like him) and fights very successfully in the style I like (hybrid fighter). I root for my college since I was a student there.
May be at our subconscious levels, many of us like to affirm what is possible for perceived self through those sports individuals and teams. Just my 2 cents worth...

"The bottom line is, I don't root for America because I have NEVER been considered an American. Obviously, the greatest amount of racism I face is from my own "fellow countrymen", who can't even get past the fact that I'm Asian and the stereotypes that go with it, and treat me like a regular human being or American."- The Truth
"Very well said, the Truth!"
It is very difficult to compete with blacks in atheletics, basketball and a few other sports. The whites from the Former Soviet Union and East Germany, despite all the drug taking and steroid abuse could not beat the African Americans in Seoul and the UK began competing with US only after they got a bunch of black atheletes, and the Australians needed to get a native Australian, Ms. Freeman to have any chance of beating the African American or Afro-British atheletes. The English cricket team finally beat the Caribbean only after the Afro-Caribbeans played a major role.
Having said that, I think that the Asian Americans have done well in Volleyball and a number of other sports. The fact that a number of loosing Midwestern and Southern University volleyball teams rather loose than recruit Asian Americans or Asians (and keep it Lily white) indeed smacks of white racism. The Purdue Women's Volleyball team is too white and too American for its own good. Their composition may be good for Hollywood audition but not for winning Volleyball games. They have never won more than twelve games during the past few years. On the contrary, it was a black coach that led their women's basketball team to a National Championship two years ago!!
On the federal government employment front the record is more dismal. Frequent questions asked: How long have you been in this country? Frequent answers: three generations. It shows clearly that Asians are not considered American. Only ten percent of Asian Americans who pass foreign service exams clear the oral exams, while thirty percent of the whites do. In order to prevent law suits the state department does not release the actual results for the written exams. They just say "you passed. Now come to the orals," and the US has the gall to tell other countries to be transparent. In other parts of the federal government, the record is even dismal. In the Office of the International Affairs, US Department of Treasury, there was only one Asian American in recent years and she quit due to the atmosphere there. At international organizations if you are an American you better be white. Otherwise it would be a major battle to get hired. In those organizations, clearly American=white, and this despite the high achievements of Asian Americans. I beleive that several government agencies would stop visiting Berkeley and UCLA if it becomes any more Asian American.

>Obviously, the greatest amount of >racism I face is from my own "fellow >countrymen", who can't even get past >the fact that I'm Asian and the >stereotypes that go with it, and treat >me like a regular human being or >American. You White people can bash me >all you want, but the fact is, that >you >KNOW NOTHING about what we go >through. >And in fact, I find your >attitudes >disgustingly patronizing, >ignorant and >the very reason why I >don't root for >White athletes.
What's perplexing is so many on this site *insist* on being called Asian American are insulted by "American." Can you see why some whites may be confused?
>What would those White American >athletes think if I was cheering for >them with an American flag? They'd >thyink, "Look at that crazy Chink >waving our flag!".
This is so ignorant I won't even address it. Did you read my post re: Kwan, Yamaguchi and Chang?
