WHAT YOU SAY

[This page is closed to new input. --Ed.]
China,

You didn't say it, but it seems that your post conveys YOUR dislike of the Japanese as your attestation of ‘Japanese is probably most hated by Chinese’.

Most reasonable/educated/traveled people I've known, including Chinese, do not hate other people just because of their nationality.

There is nothing wrong with rooting for teams and organizations of your choosing. I just didn’t think it was necessary to assert hate by one group of people to another as a fact or a trait.

Michelle Kwan is better looking than Tara Lipinski.

i think michelle kwan is cute. i was watching her last night and she was the most pleasing to watch of all the other figure skaters. she's really graceful, into her music--you can see her passion when she skates.

i think it would be difficult to call her "atrocious" after watching her perform.

I hope Michelle "Nose" Kwan does win the Gold Medal in the figure skating contest. I rather have her get it this time than the texas red-neck "Ms. Lipinsky".

When push comes to shove America will always vote for their own color which happens to be "White" - for all you folks who do not have a inkling that prejudicism and racist still exist and has always been in America.

I'm surprised that they haven't made Lipinsky the cover girl of all ice-skating. I bet Michelle is glad that she hasn't followed her into the Olympics like she did when Michelle went on professional ice tours.

Haha....TSJ, hey, yeah, Nina Li is hot, and the way she did her stuff in the freestyle skiing event, woah, that's really hot!

I've never seen an Asian female execute #h%# like that in a freestyle aerial skiing competition. All I've seen is those female Asian athletes spinning in the air when jumping into the pool, which sucks in comparision.

U know why Michelle Kwan isn't good looking? It's those Southern Chinese girls we're watching. Southerners overall aren't as attractive compared to the Northerners. You and me should know that because our parents are from the south. Nina Li is Northern Chinese(close to Korea), and that's why she's hot and Michelle is not!

Here's her profile:

NAME Nina Li
COUNTRY China
RESIDENCE Shenyang, China
GENDER Female
DATE OF BIRTH 10 JAN 1983
PLACE OF BIRTH Liaoning
HEIGHT 1.61m (5'3")
WEIGHT 46kg (101lbs)
DISCIPLINE Freestyle Skiing
EVENTS Women's Aerials
MARITAL STATUS Single
LANGUAGES SPOKEN Chinese
CLUB NAME Shenyang
COACH YANG Erqi
STARTED COMPETING 2001 in Canada

Btw, do u think Michelle Kwan deserves to be 1st in the current standings in short program figure skating event? I think Sasha gave a better perfomance, and her style and technique are way way better that of Michelle.

"Putting Michelle Kwan on the cover of a magazine recently did not help sales as it would Ms. Hughes or Ms. Lipinsky."

You know why? Michelle Kwan is BUTT UGLY! God damn, she is simply atrocious! It probably decreased sales! Her nose is wider than her mouth! I think Shrek picked the wrong princess to marry because his true soulmate is Michelle Kwan!

Anyways, I personally root for the USA athletes, but have some casual interest in the ones from China. My parents were born in China, but I have no connection to that country, so I don't have the same kind of nationalism. I just go by gut feeling. I feel pride and patriotism whenever I see that American flag waving, with the Star Spangled Banner playing in the background. If someone from China wins, I just think, "Wow, that's cool."

BTW, did you anyone see Nina Li in the freestyle skiing event?! Daaaamn, that girl is such a hottie! =)

Hey, and don't forget about Sasha Cohen. She's such cutie too.

I root for Chinese athletes because I'm Chinese, also I'd rather root for American athletes than Japanese because I'm Chinese (Japanese is probably most hated by Chinese). When people look at you they first identify your race, not your nationality, for example if you are an Asian American people would see that you are Asian and they wouldn't really give a damn if you are American just because you look Asian.

I can tell you all that this American will now be rooting for this Asian baseball player/pitcher: Kazuhisa Ishii.

Whether or not the LA Dodgers win their division pennant or the league pennant is still uncertain. But you can bet that I'm going to watch his every start. I'm an avid baseball fan and whatever the Dodgers can do to improve the team is welcome news.

Kazuhisa Ishii had a 12-5 record last season in Japan. His ERA is decent and his attitude appears to be what the team needs (indeed, just what the doctor ordered). His wife speaks fluent English and he has been studying English too. That's important to me because there are going to be countless fans who will want to connect to him and it would be rude of him not to be able to converse with them in the US.

We have Nomo and Ishii, so our chances of getting quality starts from these pitchers are good.

Hopefully, they can stay focused and healthy, and make themselves, their Dodger fans and Americans proud when they take to the mound to play America's pasttime.

If they bomb? Oh well, just another day at the park.

"For example, if Michelle Kwan wins a gold medal, I'd be happy because she'll win it (in probably the most noted individual event in the winter Olympics) for the USA, not for China."

Good. However, American audience falls when Michelle Kwan is the only American competitor. Putting Michelle Kwan on the cover of a magazine recently did not help sales as it would Ms. Hughes or Ms. Lipinsky. In the 1988 Calgary Games Peggy Fleming was singing the praises of Katrina Witt and not the African American Debbie Thomas!

"Would Asian Americans root just as hard for American non-Asian athletes versus Chinese, Japanese, or Korean Olympic athletes?"

Yes. Would always support Venus and Serena Williams, the US Women's and Men's Basketball teams and the Atheletes. The fact remains that even after taking drugs, the German women could not beat our African American women in relays and other races!
