My heart ached for Michelle's Bronze medal. being an optimist, she's actually happy she has a medal, but would be much happier had it been a gold. honestly, though, her long program is pretty painful to watch. jumps are not executed beautifully. there was hardly any spring into jumps. it's probably the worst free skate i've seen her skate. my mom thinks it has to do with her aging and lacking discipline without Frank Gallon. As for her dating a white hockey player, that i have something mean to say to all you lousy critics: asian gals go out with guys who show class in public, pleasant to look at, gentle, loving and caring. anyone would go out with a person of that attributes. it has nothing to do with color preference... well, some people do. as an Asian female, ihave had bad experiences dating 2 asian males. it could be fate, but it's always a matter of personality. i'm sure Michelle would date an Asian guy who fits her ideals. Last thing: what is up with Sasha Cohen bumping into Michelle? she's so into herself, and arrogant. i don't see a humble person for each single tv interviews i saw her. her determination with arrogance scares me. she got skills (a quad!!) but i don't like her. Thank goodness, Sarah won, if it wasn't Michelle.

Against Sellouts:
I agree with Chase in H-town and AC dropout-- I don't see any sellout impression coming from Michelle Kwan. My impression of her is that she has always carried herself with diginity and confidence, and seems proud of her heritage. I just wonder how many asian guys even approached her. And just because you're both asian doesn't "automatically" mean that you should date each other, does it? jeezzz...
you are just so ridiculous!

AA,
Why should Asian males adapt to American society? Why can't we be who we are, and not what white people want us to be? We will never be accepted by American society, we will always be seen as foreign people.

Michelle Kwan is a sellout because of who she dates? She has always been respectful of the different foreign nations she has visited because she knows that she represents the United States. She has done more for representing her race than a lot of you pre schoolers here who do nothing but bitch on computer chat rooms and message boards.
It is too bad she got the bronze. The sad reality is that she will never win gold. It also happened 4 years ago. Some people can handle the stress of being a champion. Others cannot. Michelle falls into the second category. Oh well no Wheaties cover for her.

WHO CARES what race Michelle's boyfriend is??? Why must this always be an issue for some people? To those of you who disapprove: Look in the mirror, and see yourselves for what you are: some kind of Asian version of a Klansman. I have NO PROBLEM whatsoever with Asian guys with non-Asian women or Asian women with non-Asian men. Or heck, men with men or women with women, for that matter! All that matters to me is that people are free to make their own decisions concerning their own lives.

AA,
Because I do not know Michelle Kwan nor her reasoning behind dating a white hockey player, so I will not go labelling her a sell out.
But I do take offense that it becomes the AM responsibility that Michelle choice of suitors was not within the AM population.
From your tone you make it sound as if the entire AM population in LA are nerdy, bad dressing, chincky little people speaking stilted English complaining that the road sign aren't in Chinese.
Anyway who else do you think Michelle sees on the ice rink at 5 am in the morning.

I'm so happy Michelle Kwan fell down and embarrased herself in the process. I as cheering for her in the first round but by looking at her facial expression after every trick. She acts as if she was the greatest sckater ever. So, cocky and confident. I'm glad she lost. Huraay for the young white american and hot young Irina.

TSJ, Nah, in my opinion is Nina Li is better looking than Alisa Camplin. She's younger too. Kudos to Nina, only 19 years old and competing with ppl much older. If I was the judge, I would put her in 3rd place, she came in 5th in the finals, which isn't bad at all. I hope to see here in the future again, maybe getting a medal next time. She's the most attractive and sexy Asian female athlete and skier I've seen so far.
"And don't forget Catriona Le May Doan (Canada Speed Skating)."
Daaamn...she's looks manly, dude! HAHA..I don't seen any feminine features from her! Maybe u do!~
I am not puting up a theory that Northern Chinese girls are prettier than Southern types. Of course they are BUTT UGLY girls from Northern China as like with the South. But as a general rule, girls from the Northern provinces are better looking. Take 10 Northern girls and 10 Southern girls, u'll probably find at least 5 Northerners who are attractive, and only 2 or 3 attractive Southerners if lucky. Nina Li is from an area close to Manchuria, which is near North Korea. I don't know if people over there are good looking, but Nina reminds me of a Korean co-worker in my previous workplace who had double eyelids and large eyes.
Is Michelle Kwan overrated or what? She should be glad that she won a bronze medal. To be honest, I thought she wouldn't win the gold because she just isn't an aggressive skater with impressive styles and techniques. If u look at the past gold winners like Yamaguchi and Lipinski, they were fierce and just kicked ass with their moves. I don't see any of that in Michelle. I do however, see that in Sasha Cohen who probably could've won the whole damn thing if she didn't fell, but I guess this was her 1st major competition. Kudos to her in the future!

Again the prognosticators were all wrong: remember NY Yankees, St. Louis Rams and Now Michelle Kwan. Now no prognosticator is talking about another Asian American being a MVP...but it could happen...Lindsey Yamasaki of Stanford in the Pac 10 tournament beginning next week and she could end up winning the Naismith award too.
Well, now you also have a redneck at least in her name: Hughes...more redneck sounding than Lipinski! However, I do not believe she is one. Just like, Michelle Kwan she is a daughter of immigrants...her folks are from Canada. Well, more like a WASP, both she and her coach, the whole product. First true WASP to win since Dorothy Hamhill. The steroid taking East Germans do not count!
