Hey TSJ,
Ok, remember the SF/Bay Area vs NYC demographics discussion/argument we had a couple of months of ago? Here are the facts that I received from an Asian Organization in my area.
In New York State, 1,169,200 people identified as Asian Alone or in Combination with one or more other races (people who identified entirely or partially as Asian). This equates to 6.2% of the New York State population.
The total area of New York State is 54,471.144 square miles, however, that includes inland water. There is 47,223.839 square miles of actual land (7,247.305 inland water).
Just to let you know how stupid some of these people can be. I was asking about the Asian Demographics in New York City and NOT New York State, and they just spout out the wrong info. These people specialize in Asian Demographics and this what they gave me. Geesh! And guess what? The above info could be found in the NY State facts homepage. Are these people really doing their own work? I wonder!
In regards to the SF and Bay Area Asian Demographics, NO ONE seems to have the comprehensive/specific info. The organization in NYC doesn't have it, and neither do any of the Bay Area Asian Organizations that I've contacted. Some were even telling me that LA has higher percentage of Asians than the entire Bay, because LA is a big sprawl town with many Asian neighborhoods. It's really a shame!
I'll make another attempt soon by contacting some remaining places.
Btw, I've seen ur posts in the Seattle Forum. You were comparing SF with Seattle...how's Seattle as a city for a change? I'm thinking of making a trip out there. Also, is ur email address with that Kristin Kreuk domain name for real?

Damn, this place is hella expensive. I'm eating rice with soy sauce everyday for dinner. WTF. haha. I can't even afford a car because of rent, and if I do get a car, where am i to park it downtown.. for less than $25 a day? But SF is beautiful, and extremely diverse. Even high rent isn't gonna make me move =)

Anecdotal evidence suggests the economy in the bay area is getting better. My company just started hiring senior software engineers again after a 1 year freeze. My wife's brother-in-law's company is hiring ASIC designers once again. On my street, three $1 million plus homes sold in the space of one month earlier this year (they had been sitting unsold for almost a year). The latest home sold in 1 day last week. Two co-workers are looking for homes, and they have had to outbid gaggles of other home buyers to get their homes.
People here seem to smell recovery in the air...

How's the job situation in San Francisco these days? Are jobs that hard to come by?

The Bay is currently run down and depressing. And I have to agree that the failing economy does not help. Tech cycles occur in very prolonged increments, the past 12 years have been nothing but astounding, which leads me to believe the next 5-10 years will be brutal. The Bay is a nice place to live, just not in the forseeable future.

"Can we say the Bay is O-V-E-R-R-A-T-E-D?!?! Yes we can, get out while you still have some $ left and move to a better place. L.A. de da de da..."
Overrated by who? Where are these stats that rank cities you are referring to? Are you alluding to this month's Maxim Magazine that rates SF as the best city in the nation?
And why does everyone assume the Bay is all about high tech? SF has more financial insitutions than LA because it's the financial capital of the west coast.

"looks like you didn't live in "frisco" for very long. or perhaps you lived there in the 70's--when it was commonly referred to as "frisco""
Yeah, even Otis Redding used the term, "Frisco Bay" in the song, Sitting at the Dock of the Bay.

right--but the bay area is a better place to raise a family.
where would one raise a family is l.a.? that is a question that even l.a. natives struggle with themselves.

I read that traffic jams have died down in the Bay Area. Too bad this is a result of so many people staying at home due to being laid off and unemployed now. What's worse in the Bay Area: the horrible traffic, the inflated housing prices dating back to the tech haydays, the denial that another huge tech boom will never happen again in the Bay Area, or the growing and depressing unemployment? Can we say the Bay is O-V-E-R-R-A-T-E-D?!?! Yes we can, get out while you still have some $ left and move to a better place. L.A. de da de da...
No More Traffic Jams in Bay Area!
