WHAT YOU SAY
[This page is closed to new input. --Ed.]
Union City is almost 40% Asian. It has won "All America City" awards. Come on, Cute Filipino Guy. You can't whole heartedly say Union City is worse than Daly City, can you?!
What I don't like about union city is that even though it seems nice and quiet, its not always as safe as people think.
I met people who went to Logan High School. If you know that school then you know what I'm talking about. Ha ha!!...=p
There are other things about UC that I dont like. I actually like Daly City more. Maybe its just me, but UC isn't my kind of town.

TSJ,
Sorry, I'm not about to drop any names. But from the sounds of it, I think I'll move out there and give it a shot. Again, if I don't like it, I only have to be there for 5-6 months. If I do like it, then I've found an off-season home. Works for me.

LSD,
"A typical corporate American Asian doesn't live in Chinatown nor a typical person who lives in Chinatown drives a BMW. $50-80K puts you above the Chinatown dwelling heap. He must have a real incentive to be living there."
Most people in Chinatown of my generation (25-30) I know of grew up in that area. They decided to stay in Chinatown either because they inherited the lease of the rent control buildings, after the parent moved away. Or they bought a coop or condo in the area. You're right on a point that if the young asian american did not grow up in Chinatown, they probably would not settle down there.
I know a lot of transplant corporate asians that live in Murry Hill or areas north of Houston street.
"Bill Gates doesn't own these possessions"
Looking at his stock performance and the continued anti-trust litigation against his company I doubt he has much time to enjoy life either. I'm sure the owner of the Chinatown supermarket is having a better time with his money.

"There are asains in the East Bay but stay away from Hayward, Union City, San Leandro, San Lorenzo, and most of those areas. ITS TOTALLY GHETTO OUT THERE!!!"
Hey, hey, HEY!!! Don't be talking smack about Hayward now! You best step before I bust a cap in yo ass! hehehe
Anyways, It's not THAT bad, dude. It's not Oakland or Crenshaw. Out of those four, you listed, Hayward is the worst, indeed. I never hang out in Hayward though. I didn't even go to the public schools. Actually, I did until HS, when I went to a Catholic school. The cool thing about Hayward is its central location. It's the same distance to go to SF or SJ, and all points in between. San Lorenzo is nice, but old fashioned. San Leandro is only ghetto at the borderline, which is right next to the infamous East Side O. Union City is almost 40% Asian. It has won "All America City" awards. Come on, Cute Filipino Guy. You can't whole heartedly say Union City is worse than Daly City, can you?!
"The commute will kill you. I know people who tried to commute from Tracy and Modesto to San Jose and they had to wake up at like 3 am to get ready for work."
Hehe... funny that you mention this. I work in new home sales, and I'm stationed out in Tracy today. Actually, the town isn't so bad. It's a peaceful area, with more to do than people think (I would never live here though). You are right. It's way out in the boonies. It would be equivalent to Rancho Cucamonga in SoCal. We have to tell the prospective buyers how easy the commute is to the Bay, but it's hard for us to keep a straight face saying it.
"If I move out to Pleasanton it will be with a ballplayer so it sounds like we might fit in just fine."
Whoa! Who is it? I know a lot of the Warriors and A's live out there. Even players who don't play for local teams have houses out there, either because they are from the Bay, used to play here, or just like it here.

Pleasanton is a really nice place!!! Mostly white but there are asians out there. Especially if you like cute asain girls.
I have to agree that it is way too far from silicon valley. The commute will kill you. I know people who tried to commute from Tracy and Modesto to San Jose and they had to wake up at like 3 am to get ready for work. Its not that bad when commuting from Pleasanton but the commute would still suck anyways!
There are asains in the East Bay but stay away from Hayward, Union City, San Leandro, San Lorenzo, and most of those areas. ITS TOTALLY GHETTO OUT THERE!!! I would never think about moving out there or living there. I've heard things about what goes on, and I have been out there quite a few times to know better.
There are a lot of Filipinos out in those areas but I wouldn't want to live in their community! Don't get me wrong, I LOVE MY PEOPLE AND MY COMMUNITY but Im not crazy enough to live in an area where bad people do crazy things. Regardless of race! =p

"I guess you don't know how much those Chinatown businessmen make. Most resturants and storefronts in Chinatown can easily pull in $1M in cash. How much they report is another matter."
Depends on the business. Don't get me wrong, owners of Chinatown supermarkets are already multimillionaires. Owners of small businesses along Canal St. might take a couple of years to reach that level.
"I don't know what you are talking about. This particular asian I was referring is your typical corporate American asian making is $50K to $80K a year. He had an Audi before he bought his BMW. "
A typical corporate American Asian doesn't live in Chinatown nor a typical person who lives in Chinatown drives a BMW. $50-80K puts you above the Chinatown dwelling heap. He must have a real incentive to be living there.
"Until you have a 500 foot yacht and a private jet with 24 hour stand-by personnel, you're just poor and just another employee in my book."
Depends again...Bill Gates doesn't own these possessions.
