WHAT YOU SAY
[This page is closed to new input. --Ed.]
I am a white woman who tried to live in Asia for awhile and eventually gave up because I had no friends, and nothing to do. I modelled a lot, and met some nice American students, but I couldn't find a boyfriend to save my life- all of the nice Asian guys wanted to be with Asian girls and the white guys were sooo insulting over there! they were downright nasty to me! They said I was "fat" at 5'8 and 135 lbs? I'm sorry, I'm Norweigan and German and we are big people, but I'm not fat! I also have no problem meeting guys here in the midwest, they think I am pretty, but all I heard over there was how big my butt was, my boobs, ect. And this from white guys who I wouldn't have given the time of day too in the U.S.! The white guy/asian girl thing really made me feel unfeminine for being tall, voluptious and smart. I am now with a man who respects my study of Asian languages and thinks I am incredibly feminine, but every time I see a white guy/asian girl, it reminds me of my lonliness in Japan and I get angry, even though I know I shouldn't be.

I'm sure no one ever thought of this seemingly common stereotype - the media portrays most Asian women as: super-skinny, light-skinned, doe-eyed and petite.
Hello! Not every Asian woman is super skinny, light-skinned, petite or doe-eyed. There're lots of variations out there. I don't understand why the media always pick this kind of type of woman? Just like the American media innately chooses the tall, blue-eyed blondes over white brown-eyed brunettes? Just because an Asian woman who doesn't fit this stereotype doesn't mean she's a mother, married woman or even fat! Am I mistaken about this? I'd like to hear about this if anyone ever notices this or not.

this is what bugs me most:
that asian women must be either a pushover or a "dragonlady".
if you are a regular person, what does that mean? it means that whatever you do, it either slots you into one or the other.
god, I hate working with idiots.

a hapa in AZ,
Anime is mainly a Japanese medium, so it promotes the following Japanese sterotypical view of the world.
Common ethnic sterotype
Chinese - Are backward and mystical. ie. Ranma 1/2, 3X3 eyes
Blacks - They can play basketball and are athletic. ie Slam Dunk, First step Ippo. They are also used to represent Americans at time as sexually aggressive. ie Voyeur.
Common Sex sterotype
Women for non apparent reason are attracted to what American consider 'Nerds'. Maison Ikkoku, Love Hina, Nadesico, etc.
Since it is mostly a Japanese thing and although gaining acceptance in USA, through Adult Swim, WB toonami, and Fox kids the edited version aired are Americanized. So Japanese use of taboo sexual relationships are removed from the media.
Lastly during a poll in Japan when asked what nationality these purple haired, green eye characters where an overwhelming 98% responded Japanese. I will assume the average American anime viewer also identify these characters as being American.
The net effect is that Anime will in all promote attributes of hard working, determination, and commitment through their protagonist in the shows.

Ugh. When are white men going to realize that not all Asian/Asian-American women desire their hairy-ass selves just because they're white? When are white people going to learn to stop stereotyping ethnic people and viewing ethnic women as sexually-available? We're not submissive, we're not prostitutes, we're not comfort women-- We're normal people!
