It's AF's own fault that they live up to their own stereotypes. They don't come out of nowehere. If you don't want to be thought of as snobby, bitchy, materialistic, unapproachable, condescending, then stop acting that way! And I"m not referring to one person I know, or two, but almost all of the AF's I see or meet.

So mean how ppl on this board say "come to know us & know that we're not quiet and submissive but are loud, etc" and and go on saying how bad it is to be known as quiet & submissive.
Coz I'm Asian and I am quiet and submissive! Is there something very wrong with that? And is it bad if I happen to fit one of the "stereotypes?"
First of all, I think ppl should be more open-minded, I mean EVERYONE. I also find the worse "we" (when you refer to Asians when you are Asian) and "they" (when you refer to anyone not Asian) to be quite offensive. When have ppl been categorized as my group and your group? It's hypocritical to be on an anti-stereotype board & couldn't respect everyone as being equal. There's no "us" and "them" just becoz of race!!!
I live in Canada, and I've almost never heard of something really offensive. They either are joking in groups (with different races) about different races or even their own race. But then I also heard once, "Most of the Chinese are f*cking FOBS" (at my school FOB is a style of which a Cantonese maintain their style. They are often very proud of their FOBbyness that sometimes I find it rude.) I also dont like it when this Russian guy in one of my classes keeps on calling me Chinese (well, he's always joking about nationalities with his multi-racial friend, tho) when I've made it clear that I'm not Chinese. But I still wonder what's up with that.
Ppl on this board seem to be very insecure. They will say how great their point is and put down something else. Then an offended person comes along & the chain continues.
I'm tired of hearing Asian women complain about being thought of as sex objects and being chased after like "a piece of meat" coz IT DOESNT SEEM TO EXIST IN THE FIRST PLACE! Plus, if they really think that Asian women are exotic and sexy, is that a good thing? Appreciate it or ignore it. There's not so many ppl who think that way, either!!!
Black hair??? Hellooo... I have dark brown hair. Oh, and why do Asians refer Asians to have eyes on the surface of their face? I have large double-lid deep-set eyes. Oh yeah, and slanted. And how many times have you seen cartoons (usually attrative) and white having slanting eyes? Well, maybe you haven't noticed but there is many!
My point here is that, everyone should respect each perrson as an individual. Stereotypes, arguing if it's true/false is plain patooties becoz it won't effect what is really there. Everyone is different and you could only know how one person is like by getting to know them. And just becoz u know one person from a race doesnt mean all the other ppl from the same race is just like him/her.
That's all.
Yes beachgerl, I'm light-skinned, skinny, doe-eyed but 5'6"    Friday, March 29, 2002 at 02:25:52 (PST)
To Blondie: You said, "...but all I heard over there was how big my butt was, my boobs, ect. And this from white guys who I wouldn't have given the time of day too in the U.S.!"

For Asian males in the US, we endure negative stereotypes constantly.

Maybe now you know how it feels to be one of the guys who you wouldn't have given the time of day to.

The only good thing that can come from experiencing prejudice is if it makes us less prejudiced towards others. If we don't learn that then we are no better than the prejudiced.

to blondie: I totally understand, at 5'4 and 1/2 and 120 lbs I feel very fat compared to my AM boyfriend's family and friends, even though this is a perfect weight for my height and I'm sometimes told I look too thin. I don't think it's fair for WFs to compare their height/weights to AFs because they are about 20 lbs thinner and the standard of beauty in Asia is obviously much stricter. That is so rude of those men to say things like that to you!! It sounds misogynist to me. I'm sure if I went to Asia I'd feel like a whale. At 5'8 and 135 you are very slim. But I understand your jealousy.

blondie,

Sorry to hear you had a bad experience abroad. Well now you know how some asian feel living in the USA. Just totally out of place.

Blondie,

If white guys or any other guys pick on you for being too big, just tell them they're not man enough for you. Personally, I like being very slim myself, but I have a problem with men who try to dictate weight to women. I had a friend who was 5'5" and 140 whose boyfriend was always telling her to diet. He was himself 5'8" and 250. Go figure.
