WHAT YOU SAY

been around and seen enough:
Certainly I agree with you. I'm a Black man age 49, and frequently get mistaken for 29, closer to the age of the grad students that I teach. Same for my mother and grandmother. It's genetic and not exclusive to any ethnicity.

MLK,

I had exactly that background that I felt like a mutt one decade ago because I'm a decendant of immigrants who had lost their ties to their original home country. Other descendants of immigrants are still organized in clans, finally it was me alone who had a little feud with 5 nazis at school.-But I'm proud of being not white or white-washed. Therefore I call myself pure-bred.

MLK,

I agree with you that American childern tend to be overweight compared to other countries. I also agree that muscle tone can be achieved by anyone with the determination to get it. I know some aerobic instructors who easily carry around an extra 25 or 30 pounds, but they are solid as a rock! They have firm flab:) They have great muscle tone but you can't see it. The same can be said of younger people. There might be some muscle under all that fat. However, it is true that we lose muscle tone as we age, so unless we make a conscious effort to keep it, we'll lose it.

be,

"The main problem with your last post was how you stated that AA are wishfully thinking that we look youthful."

Okay, I stand corrected. Let me clarify if you will. That statment was directed at those whose posts clearly stated that AA age more gracefully, blah, blah, blah. It wasn't meant to proclaim that all Asians thought that way. You are absolutely right, because I did say it that way. I guess that would mean I'm guilty of generalizing. You have my apologies.

"If you were to look at 100 AF and 100 WF...which group of females would have more flab?"

Honestly, I can't answer that question...well, and give you an answer that's not based solely on my opinion. But here's my opinion anyway: I think it would depend on the age of each female and how much extra body weight she carried around. Obviously those who are fatter will have more flab. Too, after the age of 30, we lose an average of 2 to 4 pounds of muscle a decade--unless we do something to stop it. Got that muscle loss info from "Body RX." I've seen both the AF and WF who fit into this category. To hear some people talk it would seem the AF would be less likely to be fatter; however, there might be other variables at work here. For instance, you see more fat WF because there are more of them to be seen. How about diet? It could be that many AF have a better diet then the WF. Heck, we have the largest majority of fat people in the world. But I read somewhere that Europe and some Asian countries are catching up with us. So, I'm not so sure if I would say the AF has less of a chance of being overweight based on genetics--not that you or anyone else was saying that. And honestly, I don't know that many AF to find out about their struggles with weight. It might be that they are genetically blessed, but maybe not. This is only my guess. I'm sure that's probably more then you wanted to hear:)
