WHAT YOU SAY

Asian Dominatrix, Chris Tucker was smitten by the Zhang Ziyi character the first time he saw her. In their fight in the casino he even said she had the perfect body.
And a resounding HEll NO! to more AF screenwriters. Not if they're Amy Tan-inspired and influenced anyway.

Two cents from a FOP:

Dear Asian Bros & Sis,

1) Unite all Asians. Stop the self-hatred & the intra- or interethnic prejudice.

2) Show support for your own kind, be him/her an Asian American or Asian Asian.

3) Don't be ashamed of your culture and tradition

4) Stop imitating other races for their gestures, fashion or slang.

5) Stop dying your hair blonde. Blondes does not look good on Asians.

6) Eliminate the alleged AA gender split.

7) Be confident.

8) Stop thinking you are white or almost white.

9) See #8

10) See #8 & #9.

Asian Dominatrix:

"Great point on the paucity of Asian women on TV and the big screen."

CNN just threw out two Asian women for one white woman...Paula Zahn.

"When People magazine, written by semi-literate people for other semi-literates, was compiling its list of top actors and actresses, they didn't bother to put in separate entries for Michelle Yeoh and Xhang Xiyi like they did for everyone else, but put both together. Sort of two for the price of one since Asians are not whites."

As per news reports, Paula Zahn makes more than the two Asian women's salaries combined. A white woman is worth more than two Asian women...may be three or four. Same situation regarding trafficking of women. Ukrainian and Eastern European women make more for selling sex than the Thai women...although I do not condone sex trade, period and feel that it should be totally broken up.

"Notice too that you never find men in movies admiring Asian women up and down as they do white women. (Compare the treatment of Rosalyn Sanchez and Xhang Xiyi in RH2.) It's as tho' only the white woman should be considered beautiful."

To some extent, it contradicts real life, although until the Indians came through Ms. Universe and Ms. World were always white or a white looking Latin American.

"Not least, look at stories like Madame Butterfly and 'One Night Stand' (the one starring Ming-Na Wen) when the Asian woman is dumped for the white woman."

In the case of One Night Stand it is a black man who dumps an Asian woman for a white woman...would not have minded it too much if he had dumped an Asian for a black woman....pretty pathetic! However, it must be noted that showing an Asian woman with a black man is a considerable improvement...Mississippi Masala was the first one to do this! Asian woman with a black man is still rare in the movies and rarer in TV.

But, you have to note that these movies sell...in Asia, particularly in India and yes, the Fundamentalist Pakistan..they demonstrate against western influence, but spend their hard earned money watching white people on TV and basically envying them. As for me I do not watch movies these days...only because of the lack of diversity!

Patrick,

Isn't a Chinese guy being with a white girl a good sign?!?!?! In Kiss of the Dragon, Jet Li gets a white girl. Sure, she's a prostitute, but isn't it a positive notion that white girls dig Asian guys? That means we have made strides in this society. We are breaking the stereotype that Asian males are weak and undesirable.

The definition of "token" is that the person is just placed in the movie just so that that particular race of people won't complain. Most movies will have a black guy strewn about here and there in the background or whatever. Do you think Asians complain that there aren't any Asians in movies? I certainly don't know any who do.

I wrote an article on Asianscene.com about all the Asian girls on tv. Check it out. It's pretty old, so it's buried on the bottom somewhere. Yes, there are tons of Asian girls and guys on tv. Just look at the local news here in the Bay: Julie Luck, Terilyn Joe, Sabrina Kang, Caroline Yu, Kristen Tse, Lisa Kim, Kim Yonenaka, Amber Lee, Thuy Vu, David Louie, Lloyd Lacuesta, Vic Lee, and that's just scrathing the surface. It seems like half the reporters out here are Asian.

Call me old school, but I'm the type who believes that the hardest working people will succeed no matter what color they are. Sure, there are barriers, but like Darwin said, it's survival of the fittest.

BTW, Hollywood is NOT about equal opportunity. To quote the famous prophet, Joe Dirt, "This is a business! This ain't Unicef!" Hollywood doesn't care about racial equality and all that mumbo jumbo. They are all about MAKING A PROFIT! So, if a movie about smart, contemporary Chinese business women, who do not conform to any stereotypes, does not have a profitable market, THEY WILL NOT PRODUCE IT! It's as simple as that. I don't know what you majored in in college, but in the school of business, from day one, we are taught that making that cash is the bottom line. Anyway, anyhow.

BTW, Mira Sorvino is quite the Chinese culture connoisseur. She majored in Mandarin at Harvard. That is bomb, dude. The only reason I would go for a Chinese girl is to retain my culture. Other than that, I have no attraction to Chinese girls whatsoever. A white girl who speaks Chinese and has all the cultural traits? I'm on it... rrRRrrRRrr.
