WHAT YOU SAY
[This page is closed to new input. --Ed.]
It's not a difficult task for Asians to have their own channel/shows. If Asians didn't cater to Whites all the time, then maybe they would have a better chance of good media coverage. Everywhere I look on here it's always "Why can't we see WF/AM or WM/AF relationships on TV?" It's like you are nothing without the Whites getting your asses. Why don't I hear about hopes for shows with Asian on Asian relationships? Why can't there be hopes for a show that lets people look into the life of an average Asian American family/young couple? Why can't Asians have a show where they are dating other people of color? Maybe it's not the media... Perhaps it's ALL OF YOU.

New up and coming Asian American director Justin Lin's new debut called "Better Luck Tomorrow" features an ALL ASIAN AMERICAN cast, and will be the FIRST all Asian American mainstream movie that will be coming out later on this year. It got picked up at the Sundance Film Festival by MTV!! Come on. This is history making right here. A producer as large as MTV is picking up an Asian American film that will be released in the mainstream media iin winter of 2002! This has never happened before, and it's finally happening now. Asian Americans don't have to resort to Asian imports trying to do kung fu with accents anymore. We finally have a movie that represents us! "Better Luck Tomorrow" is about the life of 4 or 5 Asian American college students and how they've developed during this period of time. It's got all the things we want: relationships, family, friends, life at school. Come on...we need to be more in tuned with something as large as this and quit arguing about Kristin Kruek. She barely looks Asian. That's why she got the part on Smallville.

Asian Dominatrix,
European are known to be more liberal in what they will watch. Subtitling is second nature in Europe.
USA we are as close minded in entertainment as they get. European, Japanese, HK, India production get little or no representation in USA.
But that is not to say we are not without hope. New Line Cinema put out a lot of older 90's HK stuff in theaters every know and then. Super Cop, Iron Monkey, etc.

"Well, I've seen Kristin Kreuk on the cover of the YM prom magazine. Yes, she's very pretty. But to tell the truth, I think I might have missed her because I didn't even realise she was Asian at first! On this cover, for instance, she had curly reddish brown hair and green eyes; she reminds of someone like Meg/Jennifer Tilly in that you can tell she's got some Asian blood in her."
I'f you've ever seen the show, Edgemont, you can tell that she is definitely Chinese. On Smallville, she doesn't look as Chinesey because her character, Lana Lang, is not supposed to be. She is also starring as Snow White on the upcoming ABC special.
"Is there any media about an Asian American relationship/romance between an AM and AF? Not in America, because Asians make up only 4 percent of the American population. A story between AA's won't make it to the mainstream media if it only targets 4 percent at most of the audience."
Thank you! I'm glad we have others here who don't live in a fairy tale land.
"Kristin Kreuk is NOT ASIAN! How stupid do ppl have to be to realize that? Do we need attractive hapa indviduals to represent the Asian community? I think NOT!"
Asian beauty pageants like the Miss Chinatown USA only require the contestants to be 1/4 Chinese. I don't see people complaining about that. 1/2 is a fair amount. And what's wrong with mestizas? I personally love mestizas a lot more than full blooded Asians. They just look way more exotic. People actually think I'm hapa because of my eyes (I have double eyelids), even though both my parents are from China! So, if I had a daughter with a mestiza, she would be 3/4 Asian. Is that Asian enough for you?!
"It will not be an overnight process. But it will certainly take a lot of persistence and patience."
Ah... there you go. Now, you're being realistic.
