PriNCeSS,
For the established people in society, "Who you know" attitude will allow one to make a living in life.
However, Asian being mostly recent immigrants do not have the luxury of ultilizing "who you know" attitude, unless the asian is growing up in a metropolitain area with a large population of other asian.
Hence, until the infrastructure is in place for more asian to adopt the "who you know attitude" is here in the USA. Most will need to depend on their acedemic achievements to make a living in life.
Also being the smartest kid in the class is not a disadvantage either in society.

AK,
I'm sure they are only pushing you, so that you will have greater opportunities in your future.
Without good grades you will not have a great many options to choose from in your future.
Unless you have another talent outside of school that you are absolutely sure that can provide you with an income when you graduate, or you have a trust fund waiting for you. Good grades is really your only chance for good employment.

I am half Japanese and American. I think that my parents push me very hard to succeed in school. When i don't do something rite i get blastered because it is like everyone always expects you to do well and when you don't it's shamefull.

Asian goth girl, screw what everyone thinks, be yourself. If you want to be a goth, be a goth. If you wake up tomorrow and decide to dress like Britney Spears, then do it. Express yourself any way you want, just as long as you're not hurting anyone. Life's too short, have fun! Asians don't all have to studious, conservative brainiacs. Just be a proud Asian. Although doing well in school is very important. A good education gives you options. Damn I sound like my dad!
