WHAT YOU SAY
[This page is closed to new input. --Ed.]
My life is great,
I was just trying to emphasize that if one's focus is just Money and Family, it is obtainable.
For example in my current nuclear family, to ensure I have time to spend with my family after working. I have bought time basically. I have outsourced the cooking, cleaning, wet-nursing and gardening to other resources.
Admitting I agree that one has to reach a certain economic level and be willing to spend money to buy these type of conveniences. But it is achievable if Money and Family is all that one desire. Which is what I desire at this stage in my life.
So yes I work like a dog 7 days a week. But those undisturbed 3-5 waking hours I spend with my family each day is something I look forward to.

AC dropout,
Huh?
No one stated that Family (happy) and Money (a lot of) are mutually exclusive. Furthermore, I don't think anyone has said anything close to, "The rich are unhappy". Come on, AC, would any half intelligent person believe in those statements?
Look, too many people forget about what makes one and one’s family truly happy in pursuit of monetary or social success. Since there are limited time within a day, a week, a year, and your life, you sometimes must make sacrificial choices. Just don’t make the “wrong” choices all the time, or your family life may suffer.
You are absolutely right. One can balance monetary success with family. I did say that before, didn't I? I am happy that you have newly obtained wealth. From some people who grew up with surroundings of “success”, we are just giving you friendly reminder to make sure your definition of balance isn’t way skewed compared to that of your wife and your children. If you do not have your own family yet, hopefully, you would understand when you do.

you can't take money with you when you die,
That's all nice and good. But some people just want more money. There is nothing wrong with the pursuit of increasing one's monetary worth for just that sake.
Since we are all going to die anyway. Isn't money a valid subjective indicator of one's accomplishment in life as any other indicator?
It is just as valid to assume that a family will gravitate towards the money as repelled by it. Either way, Family and Money are independent pursuits in life, not necessary mutally exclusive as you claim.
The poor man's myth is that "The rich are unhappy." Trust me growing up in the near the poverty level after immigrating to the USA and having steadily work to become the nouveau riche of society. That concept is just that, a myth.
True you cannot have it all as they say. But if you only desire Money and Family. Those two goals are easily obtainable for any individual.

A certain amount of wealth is important for you to be able to do the things you really want in life. Provide for your family, travel, help less fortunate people etc. It is just important to view the pursuit of money with that in mind. So many people get caught up in making money that they forget that the reason why they want the money is to provide for their family, and in the process lose their family completely.
