M,
That is one of the characteristics of suddenly having made a lot of money. People who are considered "nouveau riche" are not raised with huge amounts of cash. A lot of people who made it big before their 30, are not thinking like "old money" people in preserving wealth for generations to come. You just made millions of dollars in a year and your not ready to retire. What are you going to do? Spend some of it, of course.
Sure "old money" folks look down on "new money" folks as people without class. Or their more euphamistic terms "outside of proper society."
But "new money" folks look down at "old money" folks because they are people without drive or vision. "Old Money" mentality is to preserve family wealth at all cost so that continue to live the "leisure class" lifestyle their ancestors left them.
So in the end what's "old money" without money? Bums. What's "nouveau riche" without money? A Businessman.

That is just what I have observed, I live in a big coastal city and EVERY asian girl has a Louis Vuitton bag, designer clothes, every asian guy has an expensive souped up car. Some of the AM's I know make obscene amounts of money in the IT industry, and live in houses that are almost mansions. I mean there's nothing wrong with having a good job and making lots of money, it just seems like a lot of them feel the need to flaunt it.

Oh come on, most AA's I see are totally money hungry, so important to have the status job, status house, status designer clothes, status car. Y'all just loooove to show off all that money. Ah the nouveau riche, completely without class.

well said! xrossed --that sums up my feelings about money too.
I would like to not care about money, and could easily squander it, but not having any makes your life decisions very limited.

I think money is very personal. It all depends on the type of family, personal development, childhood that one has.
Some need more money than others to feel happy, secure, satisfied.
But it shouldn't be the end all. Everyone should strive to grow and contribute as best they can.
But money is a form of energy - the more you have the more power you have over you own personal choises and to affect those around you.
Maybe the answer is that everyone should have enough money so that their dicesions and choices in life are never inflenced by lack of money.

I've been known as eccentric and different among my Asian peers. Money plays a medium role in my life. I won't work more than 45 hours a week for more money. i'm not making great income either. 50k is a sufficing mark. of course, more is better. I've been spending more time at the gym, learning some new hobbies and establish relations with friends and family. i wouldn't trade wealth for happiness.
