WHAT YOU SAY

AC Dropout,

I know that many Asians are first and second generation and therefore continue to harbor prejudices from the old country. I get most annoyed, however, when I see posts at Goldsea arguing about what some Asian groups did to others in the late 19t-early 20th century, or more commonly, which ethnicities are better looking/superior/etc. Many of these folks and even their parents (if not gradparents) probably didn't even experience the intra-Asian discrimination first hand. It would be like an Irish-American today bitching about the British well after the Irish obtained independence circa 1920.

I despise sell-outs to no end because it's these folks who rag on other Asians while only promoting themselves. They want to be the only Asian admired by whites. They want to be submissive and passive to please them, all while denying that discrimination still exists so as to ensure they get the only Asian share of the white man's pie. This is why Michelle Malkin had no problem with the Abercrummy and Filch T-shirts.

Myth,

I'm referring to education at a fundamental level: namely, the decline of literacy and basic mathematical learning. For instance, in grammar school, the same math--i.e., multiplication and division-- can be taught as often as 3 years in a row (albeit at different schools.) This is what I found when I moved from NY to Illinois. (Maybe NY schools are more advanced than Illinois schools.) And these were supposedly advanced level classes.

You have to admit our standardized testing--SATs, APs, special subjects, etc.--is a HUGE joke when these tests are compared to their counterparts in other nations. I remember seeing a math test from Taiwan that stumped me, even tho' my math SATs were in the 700s. Similarly, when I was in England and looking over some of their A-level (HS) exams out of curiosity, the American ones were again relatively simple. Yes, our education is dumbed down!

P.S. No wonder those fruitcakes in office couldn't do anything about the 9/11 attacks even tho' we had enough warnings: idiots who can't connect dots and put two and two together. But of course they were more interested in examining the Asian fundraising "scandal", persecuting Wen Ho Lee and obsessing over Clinton and Lewinsky. If these folks--all from Yale, U. of Chicago, Harvard, etc.--and from overprivileged backgrounds can't even think, what we are we to expect from those supposedly less educated???? (Ashcroft is from Yale and U.Chicago; Mueller from Princeton and U.Virginia; Rice teaches at Stanford.)

Myth,

I actually hold 3 degrees aquired after 4 years of university study.

Even though I enjoy making money I never put that goal in front of my other goal of getting a proper formal education.

Also looks does matter in the world. If you look at Chinese immigrants in Southeast asian countries that have literally taken over the economies of Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand, etc. It is because they are able to look somewhat native and are able to get over the first obstacle of appearance.

There are obstacles when one does not look like the masses or in this case the established infrastructure. My sucess has always been my ability to not to listen to my white peers who have questioned my leadership ability and creativity on business matters. All based on the fact I looked Chinese.

Just like my branch offices in ROC and PRC were established a lot quicker and grew a lot faster than the USA branch, because I looked Chinese, spoke Chinese, and had an American education. Those traits on the other hand played to my advantage in Asia in conducting business.

Asian Dominatrix,

Couldn't agree with you more. Let's stop avoiding each other because we're both asian. It doesn't take a genius to figure out that if our community remains so "fissured" as you put it, there will be no progress in the rights of Asian Americans.

So next time you have a major hiring decision or the chance to become a mentor, give the asians a better than average chance.

Asian Dominatrix,

"WHY CAN'T WE DO THE SAME??"

Well you need a stable population of Asians in this country that are committed to the betterment of other asians.

In the beginning most asian came to America for a short stint and when back. We are actually the first generations of asian to hang around in USA in large numbers for a long period of time. But our numbers are still small and our priorities differ from asian group to asian group. An Vietnamese American may not share the same view or priorities as a Chinese American and so on and so on. This basically weaken the asian political stance.

I suspect as we hang out longer here and develop our own infracstructures, like I see in asian enclaves across America, you will begin to notice Asian making more national achievements in law, media, and politics.

It is just a matter of time. Sell-outs and militants asian each have their role in forwarding the asian cause. It is a multi-front cause. The sell-outs purpose is to make whitey love us. The militants will just take over whitey businesses and infrastructures while whitey is too busy loving us.

And soon we'll take over the world, like we do every night, narf!

Viet Guy in Houston,

"Even though we are the most educated, have the most earning power, and are the fastest rising ethnicity in the U.S, we still make up a very small portion of the total US population (roughly 3%). Compared to white Americans of European descent(which still make up roughly 70% of the total U.S population) we have such a small voice in many aspects of society."

The Jews make up 2% of the US population, and look how far they have gone! Don't give the me the BS that Jews look White so they have succeeded and Asians have not.

Asian Dominatrix,

"Do you know what the problem is? Too much emphasis on money and class and not enough on education. Americans don't value education for itself unlike Asians and Europeans (not that all A's and E's do)--they only value it as a step up on the socio-economic ladder. This is what happens:"

Actually many Asian Americans like a $$$ hungry AC Dropout would disagree. Many AAs see education as way to get ahead in society. THIS IS A FACT! Many AAs major in the practical fields such as business, engineering, medicine, and tech because they bring in the benjamins. Even in the sciences, Asians major in Chemistry and Physics because they offer more job opportunities than let say Biology, or Neuroscience.
