Hmm...I'm 5'7" asian female and weigh approximately, 120 lbs. I actually have a small frame, meaning not big boned. Does anyone know what the ideal weight is for someone my height and figure?

Korean guy, you're right. Go to any basketball court frequented by a lot of ballers and sure enough you'll see a lot of brawny, thickset guys who can sky.

In all these height & weight polls, I've responded to "I'm happy with my..."
@ 6'2" and ~190 lbs. I'm *completely* content. AND, I can eat whatever-the-hell I want and not gain weight hardly at all. (I eat ALOT!)
These are the God-given benefits of being Asian dammit!!!
(Will gladly donate these traits to a significant hottie)

I'm 5'2" 32-22-32, anywhere from 95-100 lbs. I don't look toothpick skinny nor do I look chunky, so I guess it's a good weight to be at. I want to work out more-- I swam on a team for 6 years before I went to college so I always had defined shoulders and arms, and always had a washboard stomach which I still have today. My swimmer's muscles helped me retain my shape, even with nasty fattening college food and never having time to work out (I literally have not worked out or broken a sweat for three years... unless you consider dancing all night once in a while 'working out'...) So I recommend to all you peeps to get some lean muscle built up and then you'll be a lot happier in the long run (and will need to exercize less when you don't have time :o) )

If you're 6'2", I say you shoudl weigh at LEAST 175. Ideally, you should weight between 180 and 190. But by your description, you sound like an EXTREME ectomorph (tall, lanky, little upper body mass, no V-taper, etc.). So I think you should set ouy r target weight to 175, and see if you can add more weight to that later on. But ur only a 16 right? Maybe you're a late bloomer. I was 5'8" and weighed 135 in my soph year of HS. By the time I graduated, I was 5'9" and 165. Definately lift weights -- if you build powerful enuf legs, jumping off the ground (even with all that extra muscle) shouldn't be a problem. If you think being heavy is a hinderance to gaining vertical leap, how do you explain Vince Carter or Steve Francis who are 6'6", 225 /6'3" 195, respectively? The each have verticals of over 3 feet! They are built/bulky guys, but they have powerful quadriceps and calves to explode off the floor with. Just work on your strength training, and you'll do just fine. You seem very frail and weak right now. Good luck.

Chinatown,
For someone your size, I'd think at least low 200's. If you gain weight...of course you aren't going to jump as high. If you want to keep dunking, you have to keep working on your leg muscles. If you want to bulk up your arms and chest more, you have to keep balancing it with your legs if you want to keep jumping high also. Also, I don't know if working out your legs on machines helps you jump. Jumping requires an explosive impulse and not the constant loading that the machine provides. I guess the best practice for jumping is jumping itself.

I don't understand all this ranting and raving about weight. My number 1 concern is to be healthy. There's no point in reaching your ideal weight if you don't take care of yourself. Eat healthy, eat smart, exercise, drink more water, get the right amount of rest. Alot of cultures over emphasize weight, and not the importance of being healthy. I think we should rethink our priorities. There is no easy way to be healthy but to take care of yourself and change your lifestyle. Of course diets won't work, you need to start taking care of yourself from the inside out. Being healthy and strong is not about going on diets, its about a healthy and active lifestyle!
Being healthy is more important!!!

I am doing a subculture report on Korean American body image and fashion. Could you answer these questions for me via e-mail? I would appreciate it a lot.
Do you feel that Korean Americans have there own fashion style(differant than white, black, hispanic, etc)
If asked to could you describe the Hanbok?
Do you feel that your ethnic physical traits fit into the social standard of beauty?
Do you worry if you gain weight?

Yeah, I was just checking for the popular response. What would be a good weight for someone 6'2-'3? I transferred highschools, from a public highschool to a magnet school without any sports. They did not make a weight program requisite on the basketball team, so for the most part, people visited the gym after school on their own accord. I noticed that gaining weight hindered my jumping ability. This occurred when I decided to take some vitamins (vitamins, not steroids) and gained about 10 pounds in a 2 weeks, and in practice, noticed I couldn't dunk. But now in a school with no sports, I should scarce think it a high priority.
Actually, my grandmother and relatives from my mom's side all made remarks about my weight when I visited China last winter. My cousins were all bulkier than I was. I guess that's not a good thing.

please please gain some weight chinatown! I agree with that other guy --you really should put some meat on those bones! and very thin guys are unappealing if they seem more fragile than a woman.
eek!

Chinatown,
Bro, you need to put some weight on your bones brother! Damn 6'2 and 145 is not acceptable at all. Go eat more shuijiao and definitely start working out at the gym. At 6'2, you have the potential to be a big strong built Asian man. Don't stay skinny, work on building your strength and muscle mass.

I think that although we like to believe that people judge attractiveness on more than weight, that is the way things are and always have been, and we can't deny that.

Azn gurlie,
Dont worry your only 14 you still a lot left to grow :) A lot of times girls expand a little but then they grow into it later in their teen years. Dont starve yourself tho cuz that could stop you from growing and you will stay like that forever.

Unfortunately the unhealthy USA diet
makes generic American Asians FATTER
than their Asian counter parts.
I recently returned from Hong Kong and
mainland China. People are much leaner
in Asian and look more attractive than
over weight Americans. I wish Americans
had a more healthy diet.

the weight issue, quite interesting though I think it's more of a female concern. well, I am a guy, and when i was 15, I was about 6'1 and weighed 133. now I am 16, stand at a bit over 6'2 and weigh 145. I don't plan on growing to 6'6...would gaining weight be ideal at my current position? And to the ladies, you can stay thin, for I prefer it, as I would assume others out there. Besides, thin people are more cost efficient, because they eat less, weigh less, and take up less space, lol.
