Chinatown, I agree with you that thin is the ideal look. What would you say is the ideal weight for a girl that's 5'3, 5'4 or 5'5?

how about we cut the denial and admit that being thin is ideal? It seems that such a universal concept would have proven itself to be only natural...

5'8 and 118 lbs. is very skinny, rather effeminate for a man. 5'8 and 148 lbs. is far more reasonable. Today's society is at ends with anorexic girls, leaving the matter of an anorexic man far beyond question.

and I have nothing against thin girls. Personally, I rather dig the "heroin chic".

From what I have observed since going to Hong Kong is that AA are heavier not only due to the TEXAS size portions of food but also out of laziness. In Hong Kong walking is a big percentage of transportation in daily life while us Americans are so lazy that we drive ourselves. I didn't care about my weight until I went over there b/c all my friends here are so much bigger than me that I am referenced as incredibly thin. But when I went over there- I was a bigger size than my aunts who have given birth to like 3 kids.

The reason some Asians may be larger weight-wise as opposed to those that live in Asia is the fact that we're bombarded with fast food stuff each day. You gotta work to find the decent stuff to eat and not just eat whatever is available. As far as the weight thing, there are quite a few Asian women I've seen in my time that could be classified as "overweight", but they still had higher than average beauty. Yeah, we as black men do carry the stigma of preferring girls with a little more weight on them, but truthfully, it's not about the size......attractive traits are found in toothpick thin people, as well as larger ones.

I didn't mean to give the impression that I was fixated on size (geez, that came out wrong :p). I was just sick of people critizing people who wear a size zero. I'm naturally a size zero (at 5'4") and I would look worse if I gained 10 lbs or lost 10 lbs. People are all different and we should try to maintain our own ideal weight.

AA DOOD, you are a guy, right? I don't think you're too skinny, although you are on the thin side. My bf is 5'8" and 118 lb, I think that's a little skinny.

Yes here in America the portions are bigger, and people tend to snack too much, and overeat at meals, so I can see why people in Europe and Asia are generally thinner- they eat smaller portions. When I went to France, I was so surprised at how small everything was! I wasn't used to it. But I also think that a lot of girls in Asia intentionally starve themselves. A recent study I read estimated that at least 30% of Japanese girls practice self-starvation and vomiting to keep their weight down. And that anorexia is becoming commonplace in Hong Kong, where the girls are want to weigh like 90 lbs.

why are asians in america so much fatter than asians in asia? almost everyone in hong kong or japan or korea look like skeletons? the girls are just skinnnnnnnnnny. sometimes too skinny. could it be the nutrition? but i thought we all ate the same thing: fish and rice and vegetables. :)

Perhaps you are on the slim side, but that doesn't mean you are too skinny. I know guys who are about your size. So yeah, you are probably more average than not. Anyway, that's what I think.
