WHAT YOU SAY

[This page is closed to new input. --Ed.]
I was anorexic once too, very stick thin, I had to barely eat anything to stay that thin. And all I ever got were comments on how great I looked. One coworker was always asking how I stayed so "fabulously thin". I never told her it was because I ate about 800 calories a day and worked out 2 hrs a day. Now that I eat normally, I am still thin, by no means fat, but I don't get those flattering comments anymore. Pretty screwed up society.

Most of the comments I've read on this board lately have been from skinny little girls going on about how thin they are and how disgusting fat people are. So so shallow.

what happened,

Having been on the come back road in competitive sparring sports, I know the difficulties in shedding and maintaining weight.

My advise is if you are really interested in losing fat weight train. You're goal should be about 1 lb. a week.

You should work out at least 1.5 hrs a day, at least 3 days a week. You might want to get a personal trainer at first to kick start you into your new work out habits.

I usually find that when I'm in my cutting weight phase. My appetite is natually suppressed due to the intensity of the work out. And you usually will feel it in the morning if you have a heavy dinner.

So given your goal of dropping 61 lb. it will take about a year. Maybe 6-8 months if you push up the intensity of the work out.

But whatever you do drop the weight naturally and healthly.

I once drop over 20 lb. within a month for a competition with dietrics, sitting in suana, wearing plastic bags, and working out in full gear. I made weight. But I swear I felt like I was going to die in the ring.

Jessica Mannila,

you think 130 lbs is fat? Wow....I know for girls anything remotely in the mid 100's is huge for you, but that's actually a decent weight to tell you the truth. My Korean ex-girlfriend(who I've mentioned on here a few times before) weighed around 135-140, and she definitely wasn't unattractive to me, even though she would complain about it...but trust me, there are guys out there that weight is not an issue with.

personally I don't think 130 lbs is bad. Sure, trying to stay healthy is good, but try to focus more on being happy with yourself. There's nothing more appealing than a charismatic and beautiful (on the inside) girl.

what happened???

try a healthy food diet (salads, tofu, etc), my brother amazingly went down from waist size 36 to 32 in 4 months, and don't forget to jog at least 3 times a week.
On the other hand, eat all you want and feel good & happy about yourself, as long as you're pretty cool I don't see what could go wrong. One of my friends is a pretty chubby guy but he's a chick magnet. How? we shallow ppl may wonder. Simple; he's pretty confident about himself and pretty fun to be around with.

It's not so much what you eat as the portions. Try eating only 1/3 or 1/2 of the normal portion and stop when you start to feel not hungry. Don't eat until you are full, you've over-eaten at that point. Drink plenty of water with your meal, and drink as much (if not more) than you eat. It will help you feel more full so you eat less.

If you can, go back to eating rice and vegetables (and I have some really good recipes if you want to try cooking some healthy Asian food...trust me, it's really good tasting stuff!).

Also, once you eat less and less, you will start to feel less hunger, which keeps you from packing your stomach full of food.

As soon as you lose some weight, go buy some pretty clothes. It will help motivate you to stay slim.

Good luck, and let me know if you want the recipes.

Oh, no, by sharing my personal experience I was not trying to be sarcastic in any way. And many people did tell me how wonderful I looked, and how healthy. Even my own mother at that time! Of course she did not know about what was going on, and must have thought it was just some fad diet since i did not live with her. And especially guys, when I was very sick at the time. they don't see the not eating part, nor the bad eating habits, all they saw then was the small body!
I am just saying that women are not meant to be the same size, and that healthiness comes in many different sizes. I am definitely not saying that obesity is healthy! As for anorexics replying to my posting? I never asked anorexicsa to reply. In all sincerity, I am not a doctor and could offer no professional help of any sort, but am merely someone that suffered from an eating disorder that has taken years to get my eating on track.

Don't eat fried chicken!!! I plead with you guys and gals!!! I went from 120 lbs. at age 16 to 181 lbs. now at 26. I am only 5'5 to 5'6. It is horrible to even discuss this.

When I went to college and later got a full time job, I rarely ate at home. Besides, I was sick of Chinese food everyday. So, I went fast food and it was the fast way to having a gross belly and pig face.

I look at my senior portrait in high school and look at the photos of myself now and want to sob...

It will be hard for me to shed all of this back to my original weight on just a treadmill and weight bench. I have a home gym, but I am not seeing results yet.

It is so shameful. My little 5 year old niece is only 47 lbs. I feel like a monster in her presence.

Hi HB, i was passing along this message board once again, and your comment struck out at me. You were told that you looked healthy when you were really underweight and unhealthy? Are you sure about that? because if you are really unhealthy people will see it in your face. You would get bags under your eyes and your complexion would be sallow and tired looking.
I aggree with you that some are healthy at a size 1 and unhealthy at size 8, whereas others are healthy at a size 8 and not at size 1. good point there that most people on here seem to miss.

Bunnie, are you trying to be sarcastic by posting up your email and telling anorexics to reply to it? i am curious as to know if anyone has replied to it yet. probably zero, right?

I feel depressed because I used to be 115 ibs (5'6, age 18. and got a lot of attention from guys, and a lot of guys used to call me and everything. I recently gained a lot of weight, i am now 130 ibs and no one will even look at me anymore. this does something to my self esteem. i dont know what i should do..should i try to lose the weight, which is really hard, or should i accept my ugly self the way i am?
Jessica Mannila    Tuesday, July 23, 2002 at 16:32:25 (PDT)
personally I am more attracted to slim people, and I am happy being petite, but you should aim to be the weight that your body prefers.
