efore Ming W. Chin was appointed to the Supreme Court of California on March 1, 1996 by Governor Pete Wilson had served as the Presiding Justice of the First District Court of Appeal in San Francisco. Justice Chin received his B.A. in political science as well as a doctorate of jurisprudence from the University of San Francisco. After graduating law school in 1967 he served two years as a Captain in the U.S. Army, including a year in Vietnam as a procurement officer, where he was awarded the Army Commendation Medal and the Bronze Star. He then served three years as a deputy D.A. before joining the Oakland law firm of Aiken, Kramer & Cummings. Justice Chin headed the firm's trial department and specialized in business and commercial litigation. His two most successful trials included judgements in excess of $1 million. Nowadays, he conducts lectures on the subject of DNA evidence. He lives with his wife, Carol, in the City of Alameda with their two children, Jennifer and Jason.
