Are AA Women the Real Victims of Prejudice?
sian women get a free ride at the expense of Asian men. That's the received wisdom here in the U.S. This belief appears premised on the suspicion that American society sees Asian women as sexy exotics in need of rescuing from the cold clutches of Asian men who don't know how to smile except evilly.
The real victim?

Credit Hollywood for its tireless casting of Asian women as sexual accessories to white heroes while suppressing the very existence of Asian men except as unsavory paper tigers. Credit too the TV networks that uncover bevies of talking Asian women but rarely their male counterparts.
In fairness this media fantasy of the Asian race was partly inspired by recent history. Devastated and impoverished Asian nations sent tens of thousands of war brides and orphans, followed by several million desperate immigrants willing to hock their identities while toiling to build new lives.
Male-dominated societies toast new women as exotic sexual prospects while suppressing new men as an exploitable lower class or even enemy aliens. The women get all the breaks and the men get all the lumps. Even worse, the women have their heads turned and adopt a scornful attitude toward their own men. So goes the complaint of some AA men.
The women have a different take. Sexual predators bearing insulting stereotypes must be fended off while coping with women who see them as unfair competitors. Add to that the pain of being scorned as sellouts by AA men for no more reason than their apparent welcome by American society. Worst of all, complain AA women, is being begrudged the right to take simple pleasure in their own identities. How much easier just to face straightforward racial prejudice!
Do Asian women really have an easier time in America? Or do they suffer from the double-whammy of insulting stereotypes from non-Asians and unfair persecution from Asian men?

The Great Asian Women HYPE:
Asian women are this and that! They are hypersexed, exotic, sought-after, etc..etc. Meanwhile Asian men are left out to dry, can't get dates, etc.. Cut the crap! This is just the type of talk of those individuals who try hard to "fit it." Fit in with Whites that is. All this hype about AA women and all the Whites guys that supposed want you sooo much. Hey what about the White Woman? You think she finds she worships you as much as AA seem to want to emulate Whites.
Give me a break! We're all Asian. Women and Men. Your perceived level of acceptance does not make you so-called liberated. Liberated from what I might add?
The fact of the matter is that the White world DO NOT view Asians as equals, and that includes Asian American women. Talking about how Asian women have got it all and Asian men got the scraps sounds like 2 step children competing to be the favorite of a White uncle. Relax people. Let's have a bit of pride in being Asian will you?
By the way: I've know many White guys who claim that Asian women can't stay away from them. Meanwhile they tell me White women don't give them the time of day. I'm sick of Asian women spouting how much they are adored, etc., by white guys. White men in general will ALWAYS prefer the White woman to you. Face it! The only males in this world who truly put you on a pedestal are AM. I'm not an angry person spouting. Most of my relationships were with non-AF actually. I'm just soooooo sick of this attitude that soooooo many AF seem to project. That somehow they are better than AM.
Don't mean to offend. Just offering my 2 cents.

I agree. I would not make it in Hollywood. That is why I am a researcher. What sells movies is white producers "who know it all" writing scripts that cater to the prejudice and racism of white people. The dumb Korean is a case in point.
"let's face it any portrayal of asians in the media is going to be criticised.....that's maybe part of the reason they shy away from including asians coz they know they can't please all the nay-saying disaffected social engineers out there!"
It would not be criticized if Asian Americans get a role in producing Asian films. But, it probably would not sell, because there are many whites who would not watch anything that does not cater to their prejudices.

True. Perhaps back in Asia. However, the "globalized" mainstream media is white, notwithstanding Ann Curry, Robin Roberts and Julie Chen. However, the most successful is Rudi Bakhtiar of CNN and for all practical purposes she is a white American woman (she looks like one, talks like one and acts like one).
