Are AA Women the Real Victims of Prejudice?

sian women get a free ride at the expense of Asian men. That's the received wisdom here in the U.S. This belief appears premised on the suspicion that American society sees Asian women as sexy exotics in need of rescuing from the cold clutches of Asian men who don't know how to smile except evilly.
AA Woman
The real victim?

Credit Hollywood for its tireless casting of Asian women as sexual accessories to white heroes while suppressing the very existence of Asian men except as unsavory paper tigers. Credit too the TV networks that uncover bevies of talking Asian women but rarely their male counterparts.
In fairness this media fantasy of the Asian race was partly inspired by recent history. Devastated and impoverished Asian nations sent tens of thousands of war brides and orphans, followed by several million desperate immigrants willing to hock their identities while toiling to build new lives.
Male-dominated societies toast new women as exotic sexual prospects while suppressing new men as an exploitable lower class or even enemy aliens. The women get all the breaks and the men get all the lumps. Even worse, the women have their heads turned and adopt a scornful attitude toward their own men. So goes the complaint of some AA men.
The women have a different take. Sexual predators bearing insulting stereotypes must be fended off while coping with women who see them as unfair competitors. Add to that the pain of being scorned as sellouts by AA men for no more reason than their apparent welcome by American society. Worst of all, complain AA women, is being begrudged the right to take simple pleasure in their own identities. How much easier just to face straightforward racial prejudice!
Do Asian women really have an easier time in America? Or do they suffer from the double-whammy of insulting stereotypes from non-Asians and unfair persecution from Asian men?

hey researcher,

don't mean to labour a point but you seem to have a chip on your shoulder about lack of asian representation in the media.....i gotta fall back on some old cliches but it would seem to come with the territory (of being a minority)....if you can't handle the heat get out of the kitchen.

"If Asian Americans get a role in producing Asian films".....what is stopping them except the realities of the marketplace.....you might need a few lessons in the simple economics of supply and demand.....but i suppose conspiracy theories are more attractive.

PBC i disagree with one name mentioned in your list of AA women to be proud of: Connie Chung. She is a sell-out white wannabe, not for marrying a Jewish guy (Maury Povich), but for dissing on her Chinese relatives back in China and in general whining publicly how 'American' she is. Lame. Very lame.

To tall & handsome Asian Guy (yes we do exist):

I couldn't let this go... Are you sure you're Asian--not to knock your views or anything? You sound as though you're not but pretending to be for the sake of posting a message on this board...

Yes, there is a problem with the Asian consciousness, but please don't knock our beloved Asian women. I am sure they have issues, too. You have no idea, no clue as to the pressure they have to deal with on a daily basis. If they don't "date" a White guy, and you know what "date" represents, they are ostricized and destroyed by the White society... And here comes the White guy to the rescue, to make things all better, to fend away the hostility from the White society, while providing the cash, the car, the openness, the protection, and the acceptance, regardless of the past sexual exploitations of that particular Asian Female..., and etc.

I am tall as well, and I am handsome, sharp, educated, athletic, and I am an Asian American Male, who is feeling the societal pressures of the White society that is pressuring me to sacrifice my "seed" as an offering to the White race by "dating" and inter-mixing with a White female and not with a beautiful Asian Female counterpart.

It looks like you're going through the White program, tall and handsome Asian Guy... No wonder you haven't dated, seriously, one of our beloved Asian Females.

Watch for this trend, because it's been happening since the 17th Century, both to our tall, handsome, sharp, and educated Asian Females and Asian Males--effectively ending our successful Asian lines in the U.S., while the White race is benefitting from our gene pool.

Staying Asian is a wonderful thing, and it just pis@es off the White race, because when we establish our Asian selves in the U.S., there's no limit as to what we can do--and they know it. They feel threatened by it.

Another lesson learned from history...

Tall Handsome etc.

>I'm sick of Asian women spouting how >much they are adored, etc., by white >guys. White men in general will ALWAYS >prefer the White woman to you. Face >it! The only males in this world who >truly put you on a pedestal are AM.

When will you learn? Playing on a woman's insecurities is no way for a man to act. White, Asian...whatever.

You sound like the the Filipino guy who tried to convince my Korean GF she was a sell-out becasue she wouldn't go out with him.

Double-whammy. It's convenient to tag the media, but Hollywood can't be blamed for everything.

Cool. I have seen Michael Kim on ESPN. Chalk ONE for the AM news anchor. And it's great that we have the other two AM's on the Weather Channel and on Wall St. Week. Never seen or heard of them before, but now it gives me a reason to watch them boring channels. And I have enough Asian Pride to do it!

tall & handsome Asian Guy (yes we do exist):

"Hey what about the White Woman? You think she finds she worships you as much as AA seem to want to emulate Whites."

Privileged people are equivalent to royalty on earth. There is white privilege. Everyone worships royalty and so everyone worships whites, particularly the white women. AA women are not privileged, and as far as the white society is concerned, they are not royalty, although they may not be equivalent to serfs either.

"The fact of the matter is that the White world DO NOT view Asians as equals, and that includes Asian American women."

That is unless you have money. In Princeton, Indiana, AA and AA women were considered inferior until the Japanese auto plants moved in. Now if you are Asian, you must have money and hence you are probably considered superior to the whites, most of whom are dirt poor. The situation is similar in Kentucky, Tennessee and Ohio.

"White men in general will ALWAYS prefer the White woman to you. Face it!"

More likely the white women would prefer white men over Asian men. Particularly white American women of Anglo-Saxon origin descended from Mayflower.

This is my three cents from what I have experienced here in the midwest.
