Are AA Women the Real Victims of Prejudice?

sian women get a free ride at the expense of Asian men. That's the received wisdom here in the U.S. This belief appears premised on the suspicion that American society sees Asian women as sexy exotics in need of rescuing from the cold clutches of Asian men who don't know how to smile except evilly.
AA Woman
The real victim?

Credit Hollywood for its tireless casting of Asian women as sexual accessories to white heroes while suppressing the very existence of Asian men except as unsavory paper tigers. Credit too the TV networks that uncover bevies of talking Asian women but rarely their male counterparts.
In fairness this media fantasy of the Asian race was partly inspired by recent history. Devastated and impoverished Asian nations sent tens of thousands of war brides and orphans, followed by several million desperate immigrants willing to hock their identities while toiling to build new lives.
Male-dominated societies toast new women as exotic sexual prospects while suppressing new men as an exploitable lower class or even enemy aliens. The women get all the breaks and the men get all the lumps. Even worse, the women have their heads turned and adopt a scornful attitude toward their own men. So goes the complaint of some AA men.
The women have a different take. Sexual predators bearing insulting stereotypes must be fended off while coping with women who see them as unfair competitors. Add to that the pain of being scorned as sellouts by AA men for no more reason than their apparent welcome by American society. Worst of all, complain AA women, is being begrudged the right to take simple pleasure in their own identities. How much easier just to face straightforward racial prejudice!
Do Asian women really have an easier time in America? Or do they suffer from the double-whammy of insulting stereotypes from non-Asians and unfair persecution from Asian men?

FOP (again),

Have you actually encountered the rude blacks you're referring to?

I've normally found blacks to be friendly and polite. Sure, they called me names like "chink" or "jap" in elementary school, but that was about it. I've probably only encountered maybe one rude one in the last year or so.

But I do I think that well-educated blacks tend to be less prejudiced towards Asians--unlike well-educated whites who sometimes act like they're entitled to the sun, moon, and stars. Many of them do know what Asians are up against in American society.

(My answer to your other question is below.)

chinalova,

I think it's possible to have a great time BUT also suffer from discrimination.
I guess what irks me are double standards. We know that Asians still face the glass ceiling. We know that Asians encounter more rudeness and stereotyping--despite the fact that this is supposed to be a land of equal opportunity and justice for all. As I've mentioned in the other forum on annoyances, the discrimination I've encountered has never been of the real blatant sort--such as being called "chink" or other names--but rather just subtle forms of rudeness: i.e., women staring at me up and down.

"Have you ever snubbed back at white women with their issue of dating "ethnic" men or bringing ethnic men home when they complain to you about Asian women selling themselves as "sluts" or "whores" to white men? I would like to hear your input"
FOP

Sorry, I've just been active on other boards but now I'm back.

As to your question: I have. One of my friends is always moaning about all these white men going after Asian women and black women. I've asked her, "why don't you go after a black or Asian guy? This way, you can even out the score a bit." She's responded that none of the Asian guys seem to want white women.

Actually, she did go out with a Chinese guy a while back, but he ended up dumping her for an ethnic European.

I guess there are still problems between white women and Asian men in that there are white women who are interested in Asian men but maybe worried about what her parents might think, especially if she's uppermiddle class and above. But she might also worry that maybe since Asians are stereotyped as conservative, his parents might not like it either.

Hey, BTW, not all feminists are bitches with double standards. Yours truly here considers herself a feminist.

Asian Dominatrix,

I live north of Toronto, about 3 hours. Anyway, there are about 5 Asian families here, 2 of them have daughters. One is dating my brother, they other is dating one of the sons of the other families. We're one of 2 Chinese families, the rest are Korean.

About how AF act, yes, you will date outside your race if there isn't any choice.
What bothers me is that AF do it even though there is more than enough AM choice around them. I'm bothered about it because my brother is the one who prefers AF. I think he should go after someone who doesn't have $$$ and image at the top of their minds. Unfortunately, he ended up buying a new car after they started dating. What a coincidence huh?

re: jessica koscher

she also briefly played "Ready to Have Sex Girl" (that's what the credits say!) in "Can't Hardly Wait" and played a cheerleader bitch in "Bring it On." Is this positive or negative?

Japanese female in Switzerland,

Thank you for the input. I don't think the Americans view Italian as one of their own or as white as they are. Italian are always portraited as gangsters or mafiaosos in the US media. So what did you tell those American women when they confronted you?

Sometimes I look at those feminists with contempt. If the whole feminist movement is about women liberation, then why did they measure the success of women with male standards. Why did they think they need to follow what men do in order to be on par. Isn't it ironic? They should delve inside their heads and define a new role for women based on matriarchal values, not to endorse patriarchal values that have traditionally deprived women of their identity and role in the society. So The only equality that I see those feminits have with white men is they can be equally biased and ignorant . I personally don't think there was any substance at all in the movement. It's only a melodramatic farce. Just like blacks in the US keep calling white men oppressors, but they turn around to tell Asians & Latinos to go home.

PS. I hope Japan and Korea will be in the final 4.

Asian Dominatrix: I am still waiting for your input.

To Asian Dominatrix:

I agree with your statement. It is true that all women of race are portrayed as "whores". I don't really care what the media believes in. I also think that any female from any background who comes to this country will either have a great time or become a victim of prejudice.
