ANTAGONIZING CHINA OVER NMD
(New 6/20/01.)

lobal peace and prosperity depends to a remarkable degree on robust exchanges between the world's richest nation and the world's most populous. Considering that fact, the leaders in Washinton D.C. and Beijing have been either tragically star-crossed or remarkably cavalier about provoking confrontation.
In 1996 Beijing fired a pair of ballistic missiles across the Taiwan Strait under the pretext of "military exercises", prompting the U.S. to send a carrier battle group in response. In 1999 the U.S. bombed the Chinese embassy in Kosovo and ascribed it to an intelligence error.
In mid 2000 the two nations seemed about to put the bad blood behind them when President Clinton struck a deal for U.S. approval of China's entry into the World Trade Organization (WTO). Then George Bush vowed to commit untold billions to building a space-based national missile defense (NMD) system to detect and destroy ballistic missiles that might threaten the U.S. A clear effort at upsetting the global balance of power, charged Beijing, vowing to commit whatever resources necessary to counter NMD. Its predictably harsh and intransigent stance toward a crippled U.S. spy plane forced to land on Hainan Island produced another standoff which, for several tense days, seemed capable of triggering a shooting war.
What American wouldn't want a shield from foreign ballistic missiles? But the NMD is hardly a sure thing. It's premised on technology that won't exist for a decade or more. It will end up costing well over $100 billion dollars. Meanwhile its mere existence on drawing boards sours relations with China, Russia and other nations. At present all it guarantees is another arms race. The only way it makes strategic sense is as a means to bankrupt a nascent geopolitical rival by forcing it into an arms race it can't afford. Look at what the nuclear arms race did to Russia.
Does the U.S. stand to gain or lose by using the NMD to threaten and alienate China?

Let me make something very clear, we in pakistan hear a lot about Pakistan buying missles from north Korea and China...well guess what, where did Israel buy her missles from in the 1970's do not tell me they invented them, infact who made India's first nuclear explosion possible was that indeginous?, again pakistan is being singled out, if in deed these Pakistani middles have been bought that I guess Israel and India has nothing to fear?. Why the constant complaining and moaning about our missles. grow up Israel and India have you ever heard Pakistan moan and groan about your missles?. Silly propaganda should stop.

Why is it that pakistans nuclear tipped missles and her bombs so hurt the US and Israel..name one incident where Pakistan has even hinted at striking Israel or hurting US policy in the region. I am sick of this link between pakistan and anarchy and pakistan and terrorism, it is absulte rubbish!, Pakistan is just as stable as say India ( 9 different Separatist movements are active ) or Britian where the Northern Ireland issue keeps cropping up or Spain where the Basque have been rubbing salt in Spanish wounds for a while so why single out Pakistan. Rubbish propoganda against pakistan is un called for and Israel should mind its own business nd try and ward of Arab antagonism Pakistan has nothing to do with it, it remains a moderate and peace loving nation.

Here's a question: doesn't allies of the US such as UK and France oppose to the NMD as well?

Well, China and Russia should of learned that history would once again repeat itself.

First the whites broke the treatie(s) they signed with the Native Americans, and now its the NMD treaty.

I could care less. Americans can spend billions of dollars trying to make this thing work, while China and Russia can spend just a few thousands, shooting down the satelite which controls the AMD defense system making the system worthless.

China and Russia can do many other things to counter the Missile Defense, (hacking into the computer to disable the satelite, shoot down a satelite, shoot lazers, microwaves, etc. at it, electronic warefare)...

Stuff like that.

So, yeah, while Americans spends billions of dollars on a project which may or may now work, Russia and China and team up, and create an offensive which will work.

But, this isn't the issue. The issue is, World Peace. And with America crying about everylittle thing other countries are doing, America is the one disturbing world peace.

After the staged terrorist attack and all.

(fbi found the hijacker's passport, which happens to be untouched by jet fuel and rubles, a piece of paper costing about 10 cents, survived, while the cement blocks turned into dust.)

yeah, I believe you.

Next to the Antrhax letters, which tried to put the blame on the Arabs, turned out to be the works of a Jew.

Someone is trying to put the blame on the Arabs. I think they are innocent from day 1.

This war is for oil, land and stuff.

The National Missile Defense is one of the most asinine, ill-thought-out ideas the US has ever thought of.

Basically, it amounts to a real-life version of the old videogame "Missile Command".

Hate to break it to them - but "Missile Command" is a GAME. Wouldn't work in real life, and I am consistantly amazed by how money-grubbing can short circuit sensibility. The NMD is just about making money, and that's about it.

As for any ideas that the NMD is somehow going to protect other countries... LOL It's for the USA and the USA alone so it can continue to reveal its Global colonialist wave.
