JET LI vs JACKIE CHAN: DUELING IMAGES
(Updated Tuesday, Apr 1, 2008, 05:56:20 PM)

n late July 2001 the world's two top martial arts stars announced a deal to co-produce and co-star in an action flick to be filmed in late 2002 for a 2003 release. The question naturally arises: what kind of movie could do justice to two such divergent types? Jackie Chan is a highly acrobatic clown who has built his following on a self-effacing counry bumpkin image. Jet Li is a deadly serious warrior who finds it easier to crack a man's neck than a smile.
Now that both global megastars are releasing big-budget Hollywood films at a breakneck pace for seven-figure salaries, they are the most visible Asians in the American filmgoing consciousness. Whether we Asian Americans like it or not, our image is shaped more by the screen exploits and antics of these two broken-English speaking foreigners than by any dozen Asian American actors. In the filmgoing psyche the sober, chaste and deadly-efficient Chinese cop in Kiss of the Dragon is pitted against the nimble goofball in Rush Hour 2.
Which Hong Kong star is better for the image of Asian Americans?

both jackie chan and jrt li are good, so why should some people try to turn them against each other. I n future they might work together to produce one of the best films, so i think every martial artist is good.

Jackie is the best (value statement but hey, you asked!) He doesn't fit a "type". He's just a real guy on stage and off. If you're asking for who promotes a better...more accurate picture of Asians/AA...or people in general even, that would be Jackie. Why? As I said, he is real. Funny? Yes, but not idiotic. Serious too. Smart..or not so smart. Shy or not....I could go on, but now ...who could make such an all encompassing comment about Jet Li roles?

I think jackie chan is the superior martial artist take a look at jet li the guy is fake he relies on special effect and wire work he doesn,t do his own stunts I think jackie chan is the best because he does all of his own stunts and when you watch a jet li movies you can see the double i don,t like the guy and i never will. so what if jackie is a goofball thats how he expresses his martial arts throw comedy and acrobatics. atleast he does acrobatics unlike jet li sing wire work and trick photography to to acrobatics in his movies
. Jackie chan all the way.

I think Jackie Chan is best known 4 his hilarity and jokes. Added with his real stunt non-computerized martial arts. He is a really kewl rich Asian compared to us all. Then again Jet Li is better for his kewl martial arts stuff and makes breaking a mans neck kewler looking. While adding a lot of entertainment to the teens and young adult. Jackie Chan is a fighter who getz young children, teens, young adult and older peoples attention in my opinion. Which is just fine. Though there is no better star in movies becuz they all good @ certain thingz. Don't judge whoz betta!

Most asians/asian-americans would probably want to to be represented by Jet Li. It's just sad that there are very few asian/asian-american stars in movies or even television. It's as if we're still the token "asian" in most shows. With all this ugly stereotypes and negativity on asian-americans, particularly on the men, its no wonder why many of my asian friends would rather have a Jet Li image rather than the fun-loving Jackie.
