JET LI vs JACKIE CHAN: DUELING IMAGES
(Updated Tuesday, Apr 1, 2008, 05:56:19 PM)

n late July 2001 the world's two top martial arts stars announced a deal to co-produce and co-star in an action flick to be filmed in late 2002 for a 2003 release. The question naturally arises: what kind of movie could do justice to two such divergent types? Jackie Chan is a highly acrobatic clown who has built his following on a self-effacing counry bumpkin image. Jet Li is a deadly serious warrior who finds it easier to crack a man's neck than a smile.
Now that both global megastars are releasing big-budget Hollywood films at a breakneck pace for seven-figure salaries, they are the most visible Asians in the American filmgoing consciousness. Whether we Asian Americans like it or not, our image is shaped more by the screen exploits and antics of these two broken-English speaking foreigners than by any dozen Asian American actors. In the filmgoing psyche the sober, chaste and deadly-efficient Chinese cop in Kiss of the Dragon is pitted against the nimble goofball in Rush Hour 2.
Which Hong Kong star is better for the image of Asian Americans?

WHAT YOU SAY

Jet Li is the best, he knows how to kick, jump, move efficiently, and punch the right way. His true warrior character shows in each and everyone of his movies. Jackies is great too but like everybody says he is the "stunt master", or a clown martial artist. I know really well that he is truly devoted to what he does, but his funny acting, breaks all the devotion. I have seen almost all their movies since I was born and I'd say FIST OF LEGEND of JET LI is the best. HE WOULD KICK JACKIE'S ASS.......

hi......well it's hira from pakistan, aged 17 female, and i am a fan of jackie....well i have been watching his movies since i was a child ....well i think it wont be wrong to say that jackie is the best in hollywood.... i do like other hollywood actors like mel gibson.....but still jackie is better than any action hero or a comedy actor......his expressions are really good.....and his fights are really cool and creative....well i havent met a chinese in my life but i have a strong opinion that jackie is a great natured person....
anyway coming back to the topic i think jet li is no match for jackie.....well i am sorry to say but i geniunely feel that jet should leave the industry.....i dont know but i just dont like him....he uses special effects in his fights which i think is really stupid if he is a chinese and he knows martial arts....well i can understand keanu reeves used special effects in matrix because i think he doesn't know martial arts....but JET LI!!!!!
anyway i think i am not flattering....but really i have the opinion that jackie movies are better than even those of bruce lee....u see bruce lee movies were not fun to watch even if he was a champion ....because jackie movies are entertaing......well i like mostly world war movies but i also like jackie movies.....well i would like to advise him to work in a movie presenting a war....that would be cool....but i think it should have comedy in it too......well i wonder why jackie works with a co_actor like chris tucker for he doesnt need a co_actor....he is better in one man show.....but if he prefers to work with another acotor who has a major part in his movie.....than jackie should work more with owen wilson ......any way i feel jackie should give a good movie in shanghai knights.....well i think this is getting too long......well i feel jackie accepts islam INSHA ALLAH because i am a muslim (ALLHAMDULILLAH)....well i request him to study islam at least for i am a great fan of his and wants him as a religious brother........ok......

I really can't say who's better. To me Jet Li has better kicks than jackie chan and jackie chan has better and faster hand movements than Jet Li. The only way someone can say someone is better is by watching them spar. But neither of them is better than, good as, or never will be good as Bruce Lee.

I prefer Jackie Chan. His fights are more entertaining than Jet Li's. You can watch Jackie's fights in a more realistic way. If he fights 10 guys, you will see him get hit or maybe run as well whereas Jet thinks he's a one man army and beats all his opponents without getting hit which bores me and makes it look unreal. Jackie's the best!!

How can anyone compare with Jackie Chan? At the end of every Jackie Chan movie are outtakes that reinforce the concept "it's just a movie!" Jackie is concerned with children's perceptions of violent images in film. He lets everyone know that his stunts and fight scenes can actually harm you. Jackie Chan is trained in martial arts. To call him a clown is slap in the face to everyone Asian. Jet Li is just an actor and could never compare to Jackie Chan.

Jackie Chan is a man for all!

i believe jackie chan is the crownless king....he is a geneious, both mental as well as physical...he is not just a comic actor...he is a versatile actor...he does everything from incredible stunts to amazing fights without especial effect or wires...in other words he is a real superman...jackie dont need especial effects he is a special effect... jet li, van damme, schwarzenger, steven seagal, wesley snippes and others r no match for his talents...he is 48 now and his action career will be lasted in about 5 years...but, as an actor he will rule...as u can see in his forth coming jerry lewis remade movie he is doing comedy rather than action...the action and stunts r minor in the jerrylewis remade "the bell boy"...hollywood is not the place where one can survive without good acting...jet li may be a good fighter but not an actor and jackie chan is a very talented actor as well as the worlds greatest stunman and action star.

Jet does justice to the Asian Americans. Don't get me wrong Jackie is awsome too, Jet seems to catch the eye of movie goers now. I have heard many people say that if you want comedy then go see Jackie but if you want non stop action then Jet is the one for that. One more thing Jet does not like wire work but when it is required he will do it.(Fist of Legend is the one I recall without wire work.) I guess you could say I'm a dye hard Jet fan through and through!

Hey now! Jet doesn't like the wires, that's producers. He specifically made a movie back in his Hong-Kong days (dang it, I forgot which one...The Legend maybe?) with no wires to remind people of the value of straight-up action, and more recently he tried to fight the Hollywood fad for wires with Kiss of the Dragon. Sorry...just had to defend Jet there. I love Jackie too.
